Eight out of 11 for me! Missed Moses, the math one and the birthday one. I think I need more sleep!
-
Turns out I am not so smart --- but---- today at a County winery I bought some chocolate truffles filled with ice wine. Saving them for something special.
-
Lassie there was a time when I would love doing those tests. Now they scare me! This one was fun!
-
Lassie, think I just had one of those "O" thingies just thinking about chocolate, truffle, ice wine all together in one fantastic bite! I want me some of those.

Three men and a monkey get stranded on a desert island. No food except a bunch of coconuts. So they pick them all, put them in a pile and agree that the next morning they will split them up into three equal parts. Well, during the night, one of the sailors wakes up and decides he doesn't trust the other two, so he divides the pile into three equal parts, and hides his share. There is one coconut left over however, so he gives it to the monkey. Piles back up the other 2 shares and goes back to sleep. A little while later, the second sailor wakes up and has the same thought his comrade had, so he divides the pile into three equal parts and hides his share. There is one left over, so he gives it to the monkey. Piles back up the other 2 shares and goes back to sleep. An hour later, the third sailor wakes up with exactly the same thoughts, so he divides the pile into three equal parts and hides his share. There is one left over which he also gives to the monkey. Piles back up the other 2 shares and goes back to sleep.
In the morning, the sailors wake up, divide the pile into three equal shares, there is one left over. They give it to the monkey.
How many coconuts were there in the initial pile.

I am just me. A lurker. A person who turned to BC.org when my sister was dx. The people I came to "know" really did help me, and I stayed for the warmth, as well as the education. I am not some sinister person. Of the people that I felt the most comforted and helped by early on were Bren, Shokk, Blue and Shirley, in addition to some others to whom I remain grateful. I am sad to see discord, and wonder how the US can achieve a more perfect union that the founding fathers envisioned without more harmony among the mothers. The discord of recent months has troubled my heart.
OK, about me. I am an aged legal aid lawyer (almost 66), but I work with young people mostly. I truly have faith that us olds and the larger world are in good hands, thanks to kids like Lewing's daughter and Shokk's daughter. I have two sons who are nerdy and one granddaughter, who appears to have inherited that trait. I love trees. And I always want peace in the nearby in belief that it will spread to the faraway. I am very shy, too.
Love,
TheLorax

My DH had to do this one, he aced trig, calculus, and physics. I barely made it through geometry.
Spoiler - do not read, I repeat - do not read if you are determined to work this one out ----------------------- edited to equation simplify - twenty six each plus one on first division. DH says it was simple. UGH! Now he is spouting off trig functions. Guess who gets the couch tonite!
Pulling the covers back over my head and off to denial land.
Anyone want to tell me the proper temp to serve Ice Wine? Or do I have to experiment? -
OK, feeling dumb again. Each "2/3" has to also equal something divisible by 3 with one left over. I tried going up from 4 left over in the morning - doesn't work. Tried starting with 31 - doesn't work. Neither does 61. Hmph.
-
Wait - 25?
-
Nope. I tried some formulas but they didn't work so it was trial and error. You're close though.....not at 25 though.
Scuttles, since my surgery I don't tackle this kind of thing anymore. But will give it a go maybe.....hehehehehe!
-
I don't think so. Can't make it past the third round.
25 - 9 = 16
16 - 6 = 10
10 - 4 = 6
-
Hi TheLorax. If you have been following this thread you know that what we are being accused of is not true. I don't feel responsible for what others are projecting. I'm direct and real and that might offend some, but I am who I am and won't change because a few don't like me. I will remain true to myself.
-
You are direct and real, Blue. That's one of the reasons you are so widely admired -- and criticized.
Love,
TheLorax

79?
79/3 = 26, rem. 1
79 - 27 = 52
52/3 = 17, rem. 1
52 - 18 = 34
34/3 = 11, rem. 1
34 - 12 = 22
22/3 = 7, rem. 1
Last round = each gets 7, with one for the monkey.
-
Yay! Thanks, E.
-
You got it E!
-
Man 1 gets 33
Man 2 gets 24
Man 3 gets 18
Monkey gets 4
Total is 79
Help me....I can't stop the math!
-
Oh....scuttlers already posted the answer. OOPS!
-
Scuttles Trig????? That's Greek to me! The math.....shesa no work no mo!
E, doesn't matter, you still figured it out. I figured it out a few years ago, when I still had a brain!
-
I got a flippin 2 on the test.
-
So you think those greedy sailors should have gotten away with that. The monkey only gets 4?????
-
Jancie, you're killing me!
-
But I did not solve it and couldn't shut my DH up for almost an hour! So E - YOU are the brain tonite!!!!! Congrats!!!!
-
scuttlers, what does your husband do?
-
He annoys people with math, apparently. ;-)
-
Due to the economy, he lives off my disability right now. Oops, sorry, that was snarky of me but he is really getting on my last good nerve tonite. He was diagraming out the stupid equations!!!! And had a friggin' name for it! I turned up the volume on the Tele. He really NEEDS to go back to work. He is an electrician.
-
You girls are cracking me up tonight!
-
I wish him the best of luck finding a job. It's not as easy as those on the right think.
-
That is so funny E!!!!! And yes he does that too! He actually started to explain that the answer could be infinite, and did the "quiz" want the LEAST number. I was so totally not listening by that time. Oh well, he did bring home Dove dark chocolate when I sent him to the store for eggs yesterday.
