So...whats for dinner?
Comments
-
OMG, we went for Chinese food. He picked the restaurant. I tried to warn him that we should go to the one Joycek suggested, but he wanted to try this other one because it was "big"...lol. He reads more about a golf course before he plays it than he does a restaurant!!! Anyways, this place was the pits and we'll be lucky if we don't both end up with tummy aches.
So there's a story that goes back to a Christmas about 10 years ago. We went out for a nice holiday dinner with some good friends, and he had the wine list in his hands...for a long time. It was like a bible - this place was known for its extensive wine list. So finally I said, just pick one. So he did. But he didn't pay attention to the price...until the bill came and he asked the server about the $100 item on the bill. Yeah, it was the wine - a half bottle of wine - $50 a glass - and terrible!!! After that, he swore he'd never pick wine again and it was a big joke among our friends. I think we've reached that point with ethnic restaurants! He's good with desserts, donuts and muffins, though!!!!

Apple: Sounds like those tamales were very authentic. Sounds like quite an adventure making them in Mexico, I am sure they were wonderful. Yes, I have heard that lard is the traditional ingredient that makes them so good. The polenta casserole sounds good. I sampled a zucchini spinach polenta casserole at Trader Joe's and it was very good.
I love my Kindle, it was my "finished with chemo" gift to myself. I even have a couple of cookbooks on it.
-
Michelle,
We bought our daughter a Kindle for Christmas ( along with an Amazon gift card ) a couple of years ago and, as she said erven now, it was the BEST gift we have ever given her!
I still cling a bit to the actual books with paper pages (have even avoided getting a cell phone), but even I look with awe at that Kindle! I think you will love it!
Great news for your daughter having a lead on a job! Things right now are so hard for the kids just starting out, that any help is a blessing! Much in the way that I think you meeting JoyceK was no accident, I also believe, your trip to the casino with your daughter, led her right to where she was meant to be!

Michelle- LOL!! i really didnt know what it was, but when you told me it kind of all came back to me i guess i never knew the name of it. Haha!! Funny story about the wine, we love to drink wine but i think the less expensive ones are much better.
Seaside- Seems everyone knew what a kindle was but me LOL!
I dont feel so good tonight, sore throat, swollen glands, and achey body must of picked it up on the plane, (sucks) plus i still have major jet lag.
-
Ah Debbie, the things we learn on this discussion thread...lol! Hope you're feeling better after a good night's sleep. I always have trouble with jet lag going west. For some reason, going east never bothers me.
I finally slept really well last night and my knees are not bothering me I need to do some real cleaning today, so it's a good thing.

hoping to have a nonsluggo day.. We had chicken and rice last nite, and one of the boys ate a whole carton of light sour cream.. one of the ingredients. I swear they are like vacuum cleaners.
swooosh................
-
Apple - lol! I have a friend - mid 60's. She hates meat but will eat a huge portion of anything with fat. And she has the most incredible sweet tooth. A whole carton of sour cream or half pound of cheese is routine for her...lol.
Yogurt with blackberries and blueberries for breakfast this morning. Now it's time to get off the internet and get something done!

It's 61 degrees, rainy, raw...ick! It's a beef stew kind of day and that's what's for dinner! Just got back from a quick lunch out with DH then a trip to the grocery store. Now I know why I got a wig...the ball cap just doesn't cut it when it's this chilly! Won't make that mistake again...lol!

try having a baseball clap get blown off your head by freezing winds (January - Kansas City downtown where the breeze blows might fast down the street.. Way too fast to catch a hat.).. and then go to the opera with only a wool scarf.. I just took it off during the performance.. it was just too hot.
My 'seating neighbors' were so kind and solacing... omg,... do you have cancer ?- you poor thing, you are so pretty.. one elderly man insisted on giving me 50 dollars. He said... 'i have cancer too. I know it's expensive."
really.

Well seems as though while Irene spared us the brunt of her fury, Lee has not been so kind.... Started raining with a vengence during the night and hasn't let up!!
We're on a hill so we are doing all right but, the flooding here is just awful! We are now in a state of emergency. Schools, including the colleges have let the students out and my husband's work told them all to go home while they still can get there! So we have all made it home safe! Flooded roads everywhere!
Dinner tonight is roasted chicken, mashed potatoes with gravy (a favorite of mine, too, Apple!), and peas (not one of my favs but, my son and daughter like them)....
Hope everyone is safe, wherever you are!

Lovegolf,
That pasta sounds good... Do you have a recipe that you use? -
Kay,
Hope you enjoyed your time at the shore!! So cool that you got to meet up with ChrissyB!
Debbie,
Sounds like you had a blast on your trip!! Good to have you back! I have a tendency to get sick every time I fly! All it takes is for one person to be ill! Hope you feel better soon....
zumbagirl,
Had never heard of sea foam candy before.... Sounds soooooo good! -
Apple - yikes, I can feel the frigid KC wind now! Everyone thinks that Kansas City doesn't get much winter, but it can be nasty. How sweet of tht elderly man!
We are in for a rude awakening once the NH winter settles in...I'm used to walking out the door to the car in the heated garage. Umm, no garage here and we'll have to trudge through whatever Mother Nature dishes up to get up the stairs to the car in the driveway that holds 8 cars (therefore capable of holding lots of snow). DH and I were having this discussion today. I said I needed a new winter coat, a raincoat, and winter boots. He poo-poo'd the idea and said he thought his leather jacket would be enough for snow shoveling. I'm writing this here so I can remind him in December or January...lol! He said he was going to wear t-shirts and shorts all winter. Not sure about this "hearty" California surfer boy turned New Englander...I seem to remember buying him cozy slippers last winter because his feet got cold while sitting in his office...in a house with the heat set on 72! Methinks he is the one with chemo brain!

That's funny Michelle, it sounds like my sons. My oldest got through our Philly winters with just a warm hoodie. We have gotten killed with snow in recent winters. Several snow storms of over 20 inches in the last couple of years. He made it through with sneakers and some warm hoodies. He also pretty much got through with shorts. He started grad school in Minnesota last year. Apparently, their winters are much worse. He bought a coat, hat, scarf, gloves, boots, high socks, the works! LOL I bet you DH will be sorry if he waits until the selection is limited.
-
Thanks Seaside, had a great time down the shore.
Still recovering from the DIEP, so just had tuna fish for dinner tonight.
-
son #2 doesn't wear a coat... he loves the snow and sometimes (even tho he looks like me) i doubt if he is mine.

Handsome young man, Apple!
I just read this and had to share...those of you with ripening tomatoes coming faster than you can use up - did you know you can freeze them whole? Just put a dozen or so in a gallon freezer bag and pop them in the freezer. And oh, this guy suggests using a straw to suck the air out of the bag - no fancy vacuum sealer required. When you want to use them (soups, sauces or stews), just take out what you need, run them under hot water and rub off the skin. Let them warm up a bit then chop them and add to your dish. They will have the consistency of canned tomatoes without all the work. Good idea if you have spare freezer space!

I hate when I read through the day and then finally get a minute to type at night. I know I am going to leave someone out!
Apple- LOL at your comment earlier about how your son's eat. And LOVE the picture of your son with the sun glasses. Very cute!
Michelle- I can't wait to see what your DH does this winter. Thanks for the tip on the tomatoes too! What a great idea.
Kay I hope you keep feeling better from your surgery.
Debbie0 I hope you're feeling ok. I don't fly often, once every three years or so and I always get sick from it to:( I hope you're resting up!
Seaside- I hope the flooding isn't too bad, and that the earth is kind enough to absorb enough to spare everyone.
I also loved everyones feel good foods tonight. We had pork chops and gravy with mashed potatoes and zucchini. I am also nuts enough that we adopted two kittens that I picked up last night. A friend saw them get dumped on the side of the road and I was a sucker:)! So....things have been busy, they are very tiny and super cute, we are guessing they are only about 6 weeks old, one is twice the size as the other, so I am guessing the smaller is the runt- I LOVE runts ;P I should add my son who will be 4 in October named them today. Their names are Tiger and Coffee. lol.
-
BLT toasted for suppa tonight. Didn't feel like cooking. I try to visit my Dad in assisted living at least 2 to 3 times a week, so when I do visit him I get home around 7:30. So I just don't like to eat a large meal at that time.
The tomatoes are from my garden, the yellow ones did pretty good but the red ones where far and few between. Between the gopher and the blight I only got to harvest about 6. So I ended up have the BLT with yellow tomatoes.
Hugs to all♥
-
deborye- LOVE a good BLT. I believe you have inspired me to go pick up some bacon before the week is over!
-
We are having BLTs tomorrow for lunch, unless I get ambitious and make them for breakfast!
Laurie - you are nuts, especially with everything you've been through in the last month! But they are cute and that picture of your son with the kittens is precious!
Michelle
-
MIchelle- I know I am nuts. But in the last three years I have lost three cats, one was 17, the other 19 and this last one six weeks ago was 13 and got very sick and died very fast. So I had no cats! Then a friend tells me how she saw a car stop on the side of the road by her house, someone got out, put something on the ground it was these two! After all the stress of the past month, the kids on a daily basis, everything, I needed some new life. I just sat on the floor and played with them for over half an hour, my whole house is asleep. So yes I am nuts- but when we call ourslevs "Club Chaos" what's a little more?
-
I was craving nachos, all day, so I came home after work, and melted some cheese on some chips chopped some tomatoes on top, and drizzled my favorite topping over it,,,,RANCH ,,,yummy
-
Seaside- Thats terrible, with all the flooding going on, glad you all made it home safe and are on a hill so you will be safe, your dinner sounds good i love chicken and mashed potatoes with gravy too sometimes you just need those stick to your ribs kind of comfort foods.
Michelle- You crack me up, Your DH sounds like a riot. Great tip on the tomatoes, i have thrown out tomatoes before i had a chance to use them, I will def start freezing them.
Apple- What a cute sone you have, Love the glasses LOL!
Laurie- Awee cute picture- House your house coming along after the storm?
Kay- I hope you are healing well after surgery.
-
Zumbagirl- Nachos sounds really good, never tryed them with ranch but bet its good.

I have to admit I miss having a dog...we had a rescue dog (like a soft coated wheaten terrier) for many, many years and he was such a love! Our lease here doesn't allow for pets, so I get my fix from my daughter's bischon/shih tzu mix. We actually bought him in Missouri as a birthday present for her and then delivered him to her in NH. My DH was afraid that if we kept him until we saw her (which would have been a few weeks later) I would never give up the dog and we'd have to buy another one, Probably true! So we drove 3000 miles over 5 days...LOL! He thinks it was a good investment!
