Can anyone help me interprate this?

This was written on the US report that was sent to DH's doc. I thought I'd run it by some of you here.  It read as follows:

within the soft tissues of the left submandibular region there is a 1.67 x0.98x1.42 cm solid hpoechoc nodule.  There is increased color flow centrally within the structure.  The appearance is atypical of a lymph node as it des not contain a fatty hilum.  There is an additional 0.86 x 0.63.x0.81 cm hypoechoic solid nodulewithin the left submandibular space.  Trhe is a thin linear echogenic and centrally which is felt to reflect  a fatty hilum.  This is most compatible with a lymph node.  There is a 2.9 x 1.4 . 2.78 cm hypoechoic hypervascular solid nodule within the submandibular space.  There are two additional hypoechoic hypervascular nodules in the clinical area of concern.  The measure 0.7 x 0.69 x 0.76 cm and 0.9 x 0.97 x 0.79 cm.  No cystic lesions are identified within the left submandibular space.

IMPRESSION: Five solid hypoechoic nodules are identified within the left submandibular space in the clinical area of concern  One fo teh lesions haas findings compatible with fatty hilum.  The additional nodules may reflect atypical lymph nodes.  A CT scan of the neck intravenous contraast is advised for futher evaluation.

This all sounds so scary, and I feel more scared about this than I did about my own BC testsFrown

Hey, the report is saying there is nodules there that need further evaluation. I definitely think he should have a CT to determine what that is. Try not to jump to conclusions. Not sure what part you don't understand but if you want to pm me I will try to answer your questions. Let us know how this goes.

I understand your concern but try to stay calm, until there is a biopsy done then its nothing.  It sounds like to me they just want to rule out anything.  Hugs and prayers going your way.

hi Barb, Lymph nodes can be enlarged  for many  reasons,

The ones described in this area , could be from recent dental work, tooth problems, abcess, cold sores, sore throat, tonsillitis, viruses etc , etc.

A normal lymph node is approximately 1 cm , so yours are not that enlarged.  Get it checked out  though, my bet it's an inflammatory process not  " baddies"

Hey All, you are so awesome and caring.  Thank you for your kind words and prayers.  DH is perfectly fine!!!  I am so releived.  We waited all week for the doc to call.  Finally today we got the word.  They don't think it's anything to worry about!  No biopsy necessary.  They want him to come in on Monday to check his blood pressure because it was a little on the high side.  But everything else is good.

I'm sorry I haven't checked in for a few days.  I went to the dentist for some periodontal work done.  He is a beast. I've never gone to someone who is so rough and heartless with giving a needle.  I've had babies, dental work and needles and breast cancer surgery, but this guy left me in tears crying like a baby in the chair after he jammed the needle into my mouth.  I am so afraid to go back next week.  What a butcher.  I guess I've always been spoiled by gentle dentists who gave gradual needles very slowly.  But this was a nightmare before I was numbed.

I also went to the orthopedist to discuss results of my knee MRI.  I was in so much pain all week and my leg swelled up from my knee to my ankle.  Apparently the popleteal cyst ruptured and was draining which caused all the pain and swelling. They explained to me that the symptoms it causes present as a blood clot but MRI showed only the cyst draining into surrounding muscle and tissues.  It will be a good 6 weeks they said before I can walk comfortably and swell goes down.  The doc prescribed a "leg sleeve" for the swelling". I guess it's the same principal as for lympedema swelling in the arm.  So that's all the excitement for the week.  Truthfully I actually went to the beach yesterday with my cane and sat in the sand chair by the surf and just meditated and prayed.  Very cleansing.  Thank you all my stage III sisters.

That is wonderful Barb, glad to hear about your DH.  Sorry to hear about your knee, it sounds terrible & I hope it gets better soon.  And I'm sorry about the dentist too....he gives us dental folks a bad name & I don't like that.
