Well the wildfires have gotten worse.  One of my brothers has a small farm and had to evacuate his cattle Luckily he had another small farm to take his cattle to and tried to get as much of his farm equipment off as possible.  .It is isured but he just did not want to replace it.  Luckily he had not built his house yet.  It is about 25 miles from here. Another brother in the hill crountry in a different dirrect had a mandatory evacuation.  He had been watching the fires all day.  So they are trying to pack up as much as they can and are heading to a friends a couple of towns over.  Wish I was close enough to help, it does not look good.  I went into Austin today and had the health food coop several people where talking about friends that were having to come and stay with them in the city because of the evacuations all over.  On my way home I could see all the smoke piles in each of the directions and by the time I got home it looks like we have LA smog from the 70's.

Sherry - The fires in your area made our evening news.  We are getting some of the smoke all the way down here.  You could see it in the air all day.  Sending prayers up for your family hoping they don't have any damages from the fires.  All the people that have lost their homes so far - it is just heartbreaking.

Earthquakes where you don't expect them, hurricanes starting in early, wildfires way too close to civilization...nature has been very threatening in the last ten days or so.  It's getting freaky.  If someone should happen to have locust plague in the next couple days, don't even mention it.  I was thinking I could at least wait until I had my 2012 calendar up before I started to worry about the prelude to the Mayan apocalypse. Is it starting early?

Sherryc,  It's amazing how that smoke can carry.  There was a controlled burn in a national forest about 70 miles from where I live, and the wind was just right to blow that smoke my way.  It covered my whole city one evening, just like fog but stinkier and chokier.  Awful!

I knew nothing of the fires - so friggin sad...as you said, the people and all (not to mention your brother:( that is some of the most beautiful acreage in the state.Hell, we;ve been getting fires on the sides of roads here just outside of Houston sparking from cars....

Zumba- I'm not an expert by any means, just a vet tech, but I'm sure one of the reasons most chemos are given lV is because our stomach and intestinal tract cannot handle it. Some drugs whatever they may be are not effective when given orally because of the digestive process.

Sherry- so sorry about your brothers. I'm glad he had a place to take his cows. There is a gal that foxhunts down there that got her horses out but as of yesterday was unable to move 21 sheep. I hope she found a place for them. It's one thing to lose possessions but animals, how horrible.

Hauntie- where are you?! Waiting for some tales!

    Hi everyone,

Haven't had much to say lately, but I've been reading...

It's really sad to say, but I've actually been hoping for a hurricane (very SMALL, please) to move across the Gulf of Mexico to bring some much-needed rain to Texas.  Hoping for hurricanes, that seems wrong, doesn't it?

Sherry-You and your family, as well as all the folks in Texas, are on my prayer list.

Foxlair is right--aome chemo drugs will destroy the gi tract if taken orally, and many are made inactive by the gi system before it gets into the bloodstream.  So it has to go directly into the blood stream to work at all.

Liz I'll take the triple prayer for rain.

Reesie I pray everything goes well for your surgery and can't wait for someone to post pictures of your get together last night.

Foxy I read about your friend on FB.  One of my friends is friends with her and had posted her name and phone number so if anyone had some extra pens that they could help her out.  I sure hope someone was able to help and take the sheep.

Thanks all for the comments.  I heard from the brother that was to evacuate his house.  They got all packed but ended up staying and watching.  So far so good.  If the wind will stay down they will be OK, if it picks back up today who knows.  They are still on alert.  Have not heard from the other brother about his land yet, he may not know anything since he does not live on the property and they have the roads closed.

Annette, you must have your head in the a pail, hehe.  Seriously it is very bad in Bastrop County. But I also saw this morning that it has made all the national news as well.

Hi everyone - thanks for your welcome and your advice.  I'll be researching more today but I am leaning toward no to chemo.

We all think we have problems until we read about others. Car accidents, fires, etc. You ladies are one tough & brave group.

I'll pray for rain for Texas Sherry!

Yes, Rain for all of Texas please!  My son lives there and says it's very bad right now.  Hope this week goes good for everyone.  Reesie - I'll be thinking of you today and have a good result when you wake.
