Celina2011 - Welcome to our group. This is a wonderful site where we can learn from each other and the post moderators. I know that I feel supported and not alone because we are here for each other. I'm really surprised that you are having to "fight" for a PIC line or Port unless your veins are way better than most of ours are (mine are terrible). One of the really hard things about "before" treatment is the waiting for each step. When my oncologist decided what my treatment was going to be, then things started moving a lot faster. I am grateful to a few unnamed patients in my Onc's practice who changed around their treatment day or time so that I could start my chemo on 8/26. If your veins are good, maybe this is a way for you to start your chemo sooner. Best!
-
Flautalee: Headcovers.com has some really cute swim caps. They have some with little flower petals all over them. Very, very cute!
Edyem: We have the exact same chemo plan. I just had my 2nd A/C yesterday and have 2 more. Then it's 12 weekly Taxol. I'm not doing any rads though.
-
Chrys - Thank you!! #3 went well yesterday, uneventful. 5 more to go!!! Feel somehwhat decent today, did an hour walk with my dogs this morning, worked from home, went for my Neulasta. Took a nap. Aside from the steroid, I didn't need any other pills today! I hope this continues. Hope you're feeling well!
isa702 - Thank you so much! So far, so good! We're getting the same regiment! How are you feeling?
Diana - I'm sorry that your daughter cried :-( I hope she's doing better now. About the Taxol shortage, I asked my doctor and she said that I will be getting mine, it hasn't affected their supply.
Hugs to all of you, I hope you're all doing well!!
-
Hope you are all doing well today. I have been sooo tired today, all I wanted to do (and did mostly) was sleep. Hope I can still sleep tonight. Nausea has been better this time too, I have Zofran and Compazine and I think i'ts helping, plus I went back in today for hydration, that was nice.
Have a great weekend everyone, minimal SEs for us all.

I hope you are doing OK. Don't worry about becoming addicted to oxycodone. Your pain relief and not falsely lowering your temperature with Tylenol or Advil is the very important. After heel surgery in 2005 I was left with terrible neuropathic pain in my left foot. My primary care doc referred me to a pain management doc who actually increased the amount of oxycodone/oxycontin I was prescribed. Over a period of time (and as my foot healed as much as it would) he weaned me off the drugs by decreasing the dosage by 1/3 gradually each time I saw him. I didn't have any SE or withdrawl. He said that I don't have an addictive personality so that the drugs just sucked out the pain rather than making me high. Everyone is different, though, and I respect your choice.
So if I develop more neuropathy in my feet, I've already experienced it and still have it in my left foot. So far, no increase after my 1st round of T/C. I did have terrible, SE - constipation on day 4 - 5 since day 0, finally resolving to diarrhea on day 6 (Day 5 I called my onc and was told to take a half bottle of magnesium citrate and to take the rest if I didn't have "results" - which I didn't). Magnesium Citrate is one of the choices as a coloscopy prep (LOL!). Today is day 8 and I feel much, much better. Day 5 was a lost day - I slept the whole day. This afternoon before dinner I sat in a beach chair in front of the Atlantic Ocean reading your and other's posts and reading a detective book on my Kindle (which my DD gave me last Xmas; DS gave me a lighted cover for it.) Perfect late afternoon. DD and DH are coming soon to be here with my truly wonderful MIL and FIL and me.
Have a great weekend with no SE's! Best.

Happy Labour Day weekend to all my Canadian and American friends!
Dianamaps, so sorry your kids were freaked out by your hair loss. I'm surprised at how supportive my daughters have been about it all. They've taken it better than I have! My 11 year old tells me how great my wig looks and my 8 year old is very complimentary about my scarves. I think they're wise beyond their years.
vtEllen, I also have my last few tufts of hair...but not enough to leave the house without something on my head!
Robyn6463, I'm also wearing a cap or scarf all the time, even to bed! I don't like the look of my bald head so I don't want anyone else to have to look at it!
Saw the ONC today. Blood counts are good so I'm back for round 3 of AC on Tuesday morning. It's the first day of school here and for the first time ever, I'll miss taking my girls to school on the first day.
I plan to pick them up after school so at least I won't miss that!
I haven't heard anything about a shortage of Taxol in Canada. There were some other drug shortages but Taxol wasn't one of them.

Hello all. Hopefully everyone had an ok day.
I am feeling good, it's a good day. I have my son zach all day by myself tomorrow, (3yr old running around.) Husband works tomorrow, daycare is closd on wknd.
Hope everyonne who had tx today, have min s/e. I go for #4 on tuesday.
Everyone have a happy and safe Labor Day! We all get to rest an extra day!
Robyn--i found that aleve worked really well for the pain in my chest from my port. The catheter attached actually goes between two ribs, this type of pain is really bad. So you want an aantiinflammatory. Ibuprofen didn't help but the aleve did, (2 tabs twice a day). (I am a nurse practitioner). It does get better! I promise.
I like the support from everyone. It's nice to be able to talk or converse with each other.

Good morning everyone!! I took 2 ativan last night and finally slept in till 6am instead of 3!! Tday is day 4 and so far feeling good just a bit tired here and there.
I hope everyone's doing well and hope we all get a S/E free long weekend!! I have my son's 9th bday party today and I hope I get to enjoy it!! He's so excited today and I just want it to be extra special for him with everything going on with me. I keep telling him that mommy's going to be losing her hair soon and I'm going to look funny and all he's says is "I'm beautiful"..Geez out of everything we have to go through cant we just keep our hair!!!
Its day 4 after my first treatment and Im scared to wash my hair!! If I wash it will it start to fall out? Or should I just keep it pulled back??
Take Care everyone hope everyone's doing well!!
-
Too early to worry about your hair, Taylor. wash away! By 2 weeks, then i cut back to mostly a little cream rinse, unless I had mucked the horse barn or something!
I am having a harder time w/ 2nd dose, but mostly fatigue and bad cramping all day yesterday. The Constipation really knocked me, who knew it could, esp. since it doesn't seem that I am. entirely. If you jnow what i mean. I could go on, but really TMI, already.
Michelle- Ugh, I loved the first morning of school!!!! But, picking them up is even more important, so at least you have that! Of course, by the time my daughter was driving herself, I was loving the freedom.
Lee- enjoy your weekend! The ocean is the place to be! Sounds like you will be surrounded by loving supporters!
-
The pain in my neck and chest from the port is beginning to feel better, but I'm not sure the infection from the incision has improved either. But it doesn't look worse than when they saw it yesterday, and while the incision feels warm, there's still no fever, so I'll give it some more time! Maybe after the second dose of antibiotics it will improve.
Feeling pretty good after 2nd infusion yesterday. Head's a little foggy, but I'm not sure that's not all the other meds. Tired. Stomach is not quite itself, but I think I'm going to brave the grocery store all by myself this morning. Maybe I'll take an immodium first just to be safe!
Community still dealing with the aftereffects of Irene. My husband drives a cement mixer full time, but is running dump trailers and heavy equipment all 3 days this holiday weekend in order to get some roads open again soon. I hate not having any time to spend with him, but the overtime dollars will come in very handy as I run out of sick time in the next couple of weeks. I feel a little guilty, like we're benefitting from a tragedy, so I try to keep telling myself that he's just doing his part. He works hard and earns his paycheck.
Have a great day! For those of you in US, enjoy the labor day weekend!

Well todays the day after brushing my hair this morning and ending up with what look like a small dog beside me I decided I am gonna take control and have my son shave it all of , My lovely sister is coming down to hold my hand and try calm me down, I hope to have a few laughs too, I feel ready and hope when its done I will feel better this waiting and watching it fall out is driving me crazy , so wish me luck ! and hope to feel better that I will have 1 more hurdle over with.
Hoping everyone is doing good and for those of you suffering with the constipation have u tryed having All Bran and wholemeal bread for brekie its works wonders for me , never had any C issues at all take care everyone!!!!!!!
-
Hi, starting chemo 9/6/11. TCH eery 3 weeks for 6 doses , then 6 weeks of radiation. How are you doing?
-
Kasi...glad everything went well! Enjoy your weekend.
Grimbol...glad the s/e are minimal this time.
Flautalee...except for the constipation, your day sounds great! I live in the middle of a cornfield and can only sit and look at an ocean if I am on a vacation. LOL I am hoping the Kindle will find its way under my Chritmas tree in December!!
Michelle...that's how my hair is, too. I have a baseball hat sitting right in the kitchen, near the door, just in case someone drops by and I have to quickly put it on.
jbagley...hope your little Zach takes naps still! Our forum is a great place, isn't it?
Taylor...I'm also having trouble sleeping at night. Onc says it's the steroids. Hope that part fades away for you. I think most of us here found that the hair starts about day 12-14. I'd go ahead and wash it. Have fun at the party.
vtEllen...the constipation is overwelming, isn't it? It isn't TMI if it's discussed here...that's what we are here for! LOL
Robyn...I hope the infection clears quickly; and you shouldn't feel guilty at all! People need the services that he is helping to provide.
Summergirl...my control over the situation is what made me just 'do it' also. It was bordering on 'freakish', the amount of hair that was piling up on the floor and counter of my bathroom. I just decided that I am one of the 'let's just get this over with' type of people, and I just started cutting away. I never did the shave. I still have tufts of hair. {{{hugs}}}
Rosey...welcome. Hope you are able to pick up some knowledge and support from all of the great ladies here. There are some that have the regiman that you are under.
-
Taylor--my hair didn't start falling out until day 14 to 15 after my first treeatment. When it started to thin, I had my daughter just shave it all off, bout 1/4 inch with the razor that I buzz my husband and sons haiir.
Just remember everyone, the hair will grow back! This is what my husband keeps telling me when I start crying about my bald head. I have a lot of handkerchiefs that I use. My wig looks dried out too. But oh well.
Rosey--welcome as well. I have only been a part of this group for a short time but feel like I have been a part for some time. We are in all stages of chemo here, I will be going for 4 on tuesday. Then switch to taxol, hoping the shortage is not in maine.
Flautalee--i have constipation too, and so at the same time my mouth hurts, my bum hurts too. I use vaseline (just like for a diaper rash) or bag balm. I just try to eat a lot of organic vegies. I also use a little miralax. Mix with any liquid.
Everyone have a good day, minimal side effects

Morning Everyone -- Hope everyone is doing well and welcome to any new ladies that have found their way here.
Day #4 for me (I count my TX day as day 1), and I'm hanging in there. No nausea, no trouble sleeping (didn't before), and I'm taking Advil every 8hrs. I don't want any bone or muscle issues this time. I still feel slight 'pangs' of aches under the surface, but I think the Advil is helping keep it at bay. This time at my last tx, was when I started having a horrible time. Feel a little off and sluggish/slow though.
I still have hair -- very thin, but there is some there! And I'm always ravenous with food! No issues eating. I'm craving White Castle Fish and Cheese and I will have one! LOL
Taylor: I hope your son has a wonderful 9th birthday today! I am glad you are hanging in there.
vtEllen: Hope you are good hon -- my hot flashes are kicking my behind! I had to purchase a small fan yesterday to keep on my nightstand. I hope the "C" issue loosens up soon (pun intended). I'm going to ply myself with some Sennekot this morning because I know I'm going to have issues.
Grimbol: How are you holding up?
Robyn: Sorry to hear about the infection - I hope you feel better!
Summergirl: You'll be fine hon once you take the reigns! I'm so glad I cut mine really, really short, so it wasn't as traumatic when it started to come out.
Dianamaps: Hugs to you!
If I missed anyone -- please forgive me. Try to enjoy the holiday weekend -- can't believe August is over with already!
-
Thanks so much everyone!!! I'm going to wash my hair!!
I'll be thinking of you summergirl
Welcome Rosy ..This is a great thread and the people on here are wonderful!!!
Sorry Michelleo that you cant be there in the morning for your girls but you'll be there to pick them up
I read all the posts on here and I'm sorry if I dont acknowledge you but when I post a reply I forget alot of the info I read ..sorry I dont mean to be ignoring anyone on here your all wonderful people and I am so thankful I came across this site>>where I live I feel I'm the only one going through this...

I have to pipe in again today...Since I had so much trouble with diarrhea and then constipation after the first treatment, I've been using Metamucil every day. I hate the stuff, but I mix it with a little bit of Tang and it tastes better. This is only the day after transfusion number 2, but I was already having diarrhea at this point last time, and so far so good! So I suggest trying whatever fiber fix works! I'm having better luck so far!
-
Taylor , you're safe!! Mine didn't start to fall out like , till day 12 , so you have some time still
I'm of the same attitude , just go and do it , plus all the hair was driving me completely nuts.I had my mom buzz them three days ago , but they continued to fall out , driving me completely crazy.Just shaved them with my foot razor.LOL.One very clogged bathtub and a cloggiest drain , I'm done.Pruned out , but I did it MYSELF.and it's my choice to decide when I'll be completely baldie.
I hope that's the end of vacuuming for at least a week! ( my hair grow out like crazy , sooooo I don't hope for more..)
Happy 9th birthday to your son Taylor!
Can I ask anyone , has had her period since tx #1 ? I just had mine two days ago and it's kicking my butt with pain.*groan* not to mention that I always have 'C' spells when I'm on it...sooooo...a lot of farting , but nothing else.
-
Good morning everyone!!!
praying that we all have a great weekend with minor to none S/E...
Tailor: Happy Birthday to your son and may God grant him with many more healthy one to come...
-
GUYS , I DID IT , had my son shave my head its about a 1 buzz cut ,god love my son his hands were shaking so bad, but I just laughed throughout and he gave me a few funky styles before he actually buzzed it. and I actually feel so releived and kinda like it, everyone loves it and told me I need to keep it short , I am so glad this hurdle is over with. will post a pic soon ,
Feeling very happy

Hi Chrys, not too bad today, just can't keep my eyes open. The nausea has def been better this time, but so so tired!
How are you doing?
Godd for you Summergirl, I did mine last Sunday and although it does feel better I keep wondering if I should have waited. I wanted to get it over and done with but then I think about how long it'll be before it grows back!! Oh well, one more step done. No pics though!!
-
Vivie, I have had one regular period and one just spotting. I don't think that I will have another though. I don't have cramps anymore, had endometrial ablation about 3 yrs ago for heay ones and cramping. The chemo should be shutting down our ovaries as they contain. "Rapidly growing cells".
Summergirl, I did the same, I let my daughter shave my head to about a 2 buzz cut. Then it started falling out, but I still have about 10% of my hair that hasn't fallen out. Sprigs all over, and they are fair colored (I think my gray hairs didn't fall out cause I have dark brown hair! And what's left is quite light.
Hugs to everyone, including our new girls. Hopefully all find little s/e. Have a safe Labor day.

MaryjRN - Sleeping problems are the worst... Ativan definitely helps me in a pinch... Hope it works for you too.
Koalakid - I'm with you on the hair shed... fun, right? How is your husband - on the road to recovery I hope.
Oh Vivie - Sounds like your tech used you as a human pincushion, huh? There's definitely other veins they can use on the lower arm or on the hand - I just had my #2 and I feel like I'm in the race now - closer to the finish - just like you!
OMG Flautalee - great advice on the pain meds, and I'm wishing I were you in a beach chair with a Kindle. That is called enjoying life!
vtEllen and all - FATIGUE: At least 2 nurses and one doctor assure me that my (and your) fatigue will be better controlled if we exercise through this process. Not Olympic training or anything - but as much as our bodies will let us. I am doing 2-lb weights on the arms, a 30-minute walk/jog and leg weight machines - each one a few days a week. Not huge, but something to try and kick thru the fatigue!
Summergirl - I'm glad your son (and sister too?) was able to help you through the shave. You are a rockstar!
Chrys23 - Are you able to dodge those bone and muscle problems this time? Hope so... I feel you on the sluggish and slow thing for sure....
I just had #2 of 8 CMF (dose-dense regimen) and have stayed ahead of the nausea, and have done the Claritin for dodging the bone pain from the neulasta shot. Hair's shedding, lots of fatigue, and no period for 2+ months (post-BMX).
MY TE's HURT A LOT - after both chemo treatments, and my MO and her nurse refuse to acknowledge that this could be a SE of chemo. No way, they say. All I know is that it starts to subside several days afterward.. and doesn't feel decent again until it's almost time for the next tx.
Can anyone comment on this TE thing?
Still, I see light at the end of the tunnel. Looking to stay as emotionally clear as often as possible xxoo
-
Vivie - yea, period came, right on schedule. I was surprised since somehow it seemed that two rounds of AC has knocked so many other things out of whack, it would have affected that too. But no.
Chrys23 and Robyn6463 and Sara1970 others: Hope things are still going well after treatments last week!
Head shavers: You're all brave. I'm keeping mine just super short (< 1/2") but my scalp is too sensitive to shave it. It's now patchy bald in places.
I'm 10 days after tx 2 and still haven't hit that point that I had last time by this point, when all of a sudden I felt great/normal like there'd been no chemo. I still have on/off nausea and overall queasiness and headache and fogginess. But if the rain holds off, I may rally some energy to see about joining the family at the state fair today. I know I'm supposed to avoid crowds (LOL), but it ends tomorrow and my kids really want to go.
-
sara1970- Here's to the emotionally clear! I have NOT been there since 2nd of 4 T/C last monday. The fatigue has been double or triple the first dose. I never missed a day last time, no bed days, walked, did almost my full load the whole time. But this time, I had maybe a day or 2 right after the dose, and I have been mostly to bed since. Cramping, sore mouth, fatigue, aches, pains. I am not a good "sick" person. I get frustrated and have pathetic crybaby fits.
On the SEs, again, I don't have them ( lumpec.), butI can tell you that my fingernails(!) hurt when I was giving birth ( natural 0 pain killers) and this chemo stuff reminds me in a weird way of labor pains. Every part of my body feels affected in a bad way. And I know last time my incision became more tender, so seems reasonable to me that they would bother you, but can't say why!
And, yes I have been dragging my sorry little unit up the hill, every day but chemo day and then Irene. Moving helps a lot!
-
This is only day 2 after T/C #2, and I'm so exhausted. I did manage a walk around my pond yesterday, but didn't make it to the grocery store. Hubby's working hard all weekend, so I'm going to have to get my 17 yo son out of bed to help out today I'm afraid. I've had a little nauseau, I think the muscle aches are starting early. I just have no energy! On a good note, port incision looks better today, so I think the infection is going to clear up with the oral antibiotics. Maybe. Whew. I was dreading a stay in the hospital! I'm also really missing my husband through all this. Thank God I have you ladies!
Have a great day!
-
Dianamaps, I am gonna go to the state fair also, bring hand sanitizer with you. Use it often that's what I am going to do.
Good morning ladies.
For all that are having s/e, hope they pass fast. Just remember, the chemo kills all rapidly growing cells, that's why we feel crappy afterwards. At least we know that the cancer cells are being targeted!
Positive attitude as we all know helps as well. I meditate and have reiki treatments a few days before my chemo treatments, I visualize minimal side effects and mine have not been too bad. Little nausea, just a lot of fatigue! I also use and wear crystals, rose quartz and amethyst, bloodstone and moonstone. Clear quartz is another good one to wear.
Jenn -
Oh goodie, Robyn. Glad that I am not the only one!! I mean, yes, I can get around ( except for day 4 - I don't count chemo day) but, I am still nauseous, fatigued and generally in a state of malaise. Can hardly wait to see what 3 & 4 bring, but psychologically we will be that much closer to the end, at least!. I am sorry you don't have your DH to help right now, hope your son pulls through. I feel a smidgeon improved from yesterday, so it will be onward and upward from here, I hope!
-
Morning --
Hope everyone is ok.. Day #5 for me...I'm still popping Advil every 8hrs and when it starts to wear off, I can feel the muscle/aches/pains in the background. I woke up this morning in discomfort. Why am I the only one with this weird S/E?? It really makes me upset -- 'everyone else' seems to be fine and I feel like I get hit with a MAC truck all the time. If I wasn't taking the Advil, I don't think I could hardly function and I'm hardly functioning now.
My back hurts over my left hip and I could hardly walk around yesterday -- my body feels heavy and bloated. Jbagley: Positive thoughts aside, I try and this is how my body reacts to chemo; seems like it just cannot be helped. I wish my experience was different, but c'est la vie.
Sorry to sound like a baby -- I just don't get why I have these issues......Last time, Day 6 and 7 I was really sick with horrible body flu pains; I hope that won't be the case in the days to come.
