well,i guess i finally know what i'm dealing with idc, triple neg, stage IIa, grade 2-wonder if the triple neg will change the grade?

i had a lumpectomy, sentinel node biopsy-neg,one margin was 1mm,surgeon said he couldn't get a bigger margin without cutting into chest wall, no more surgery recommended.

tumor board unanimous(sp) on chemo 16wks-treatment every 2 wks with wbc booster shot next day and then 6 1/2 wks radiation. said they would do brca test after chemo, discuss my options if positive.

so my question to you who are more experienced with this diagnosis should i tell them i want a masectomy now or do the chemo first, have the brca test and get those results,i think i will have to have rads no matter what because of the chest wall.

Belle- so sorry you have to be here, but welcome. Come on over to the "Calling all TNS" thread. Lots of great women with TN and lots of great info!

Belle: you might want to check out the thread "any good news" following yours, some others are struggling with the same questions and decisions. It's very tough because you feel like your life hangs in the balance of whatever you decide... and to be honest that's probably not the case: Mx, Lx, chemo first, chemo later - they're all good options. If you have any family history, knowing your BRCA status would help decide if a prohy BMx is worth considering. And getting on with chemo is a good thing with an aggressive cancer like TN (usually grade 3, but sometimes not, as in your case).

I also had a 1 mm margin against the chest wall following Lx. I got rads, and my BS and RO didn't see any reason to do any more surgery - nothing would/could change. You may want to put these questions very pointedly to your team too, and make sure you're comfortable with whatever you move forward with.

Sorry you are in this club. I don't want to tell what to do becauce what worked for may not for, but I had to have chemo first and i am glad because I could see it working. I have my next surgery in the morning. I know how feel. It is hard making this kind of choices, but remenber to take one day at time. and make the choice you are happy with.

Around this time last year I was in your shoes. It gets better. It kind of like child birth when you get done are just so happy you forget about how bad it was. Be praying for you.

When I originally posted the HER2 was inconclusive needed further testing, but all ended up being negative. I am not very good on the terminology. I had my port and first round of chemotherapy last Friday. So it's been 8 days. I will have chemo every three weeks for 6 sessions, then surgery, then radiation. I went to work most of last week. I wasn't 100 %, but my team was very supportive. Water has been my friend. I will normally only drink water when I am sick. (and that is, until recently, about once a year.) Everything is going to be ok. I have faith.

Belle: sorry to hear about the infection. It's infuriating these little ups and downs and bumps in the road through treatment. You will get through it all.
