I'll go first...
My daughter just started her freshman year in HS and is cheering for varsity FB. I couldn't be prouder!!
My husband just got back a contract at work that has the potential to bring a 30% pay raise. (A deperately needed pay raise)I got in on a pilot program at our YMCA that is doing the Livestrong Cancer Survivor's Program. I'm so excited to start working out again. It's been a long time since I was consistent with exercise and I can't wiat to do something for ME that doesn't involve doctors.
-
I am running a 1/2 Marathon at Disneyland next weekend!! Woohooo! I signed up for this when I was still in chemo, and I really never thought this day would come.
-
Wow, those are great things!
I'm going to Oregon this upcoming week for the first time to visit some fantastic friends I met through YSC. I love to travel and I love to see my friends even more so this is something I'm super excited for. -
My youngest daughter just started her first year in radiology school. She's lovin' it! My oldest daughter is doing well. She is holding down a job, has remained drug free and sober for the last 5 years and is raising her children and I might add doing a good job. My grandson is spending the night with me. We have a standing Saturday night date! My grandson started pre-k a couple of weeks ago and is doing well. I have lots of great family and friends supporting me in this fight and I am so blessed.
-
Great topic!
Assuming I survive this hurricaneI'm going on vacation, starting this Saturday. Yeah!!
-
I already posted this on our intro thread, but I finally got out and had some fun last night. My kids are back in school and already crazy busy with sports. My 17 year old is quite a runner and is well into his cross county season..first meet next week. My 13 year old is in 8th grade and finally in school sports instead of league - it's very cool not to have to pay a ton of money for him to play football and basketball! We are trying to get in as much boating time as possible, although, it's too rainy today to go out this weekend. Xeloda is being fairly kind to me and working wonders. And finally...flying fears be damned, I am booking our trip to Riviera Maya, Mexico for spring break in March this week. There are several families from our town going and we are all staying at the same resort. It should be a blast. Glad I have my Xanax to get me there and back!!
-
Sally, where are you staying? We stayed at the Barcelo resort and LOVED it. It was worth every single penny.
-
Morning, Cassie! We are staying at the Marina El Cid - we stayed there last year and really loved it. The group we are going with stayed at the Barcelo last time and did love it - but El Cid is just a bit cheaper, so since we are all taking our kids this time - we are going back there.
-
How different can it be from one resort to the next? I'm sure they're all beautiful. They're all warm, they're all relaxing... I'd say it's a win-win no matter where you stay. I'd love to go back. I'm glad you're going, you deserve it.
As far as flying, I hate it too. But I figure: I spent a lot of years being terrified of flying. It's someone else's turn. Let them handle the worrying. Take your vitamin X, and relax as much as you can. What's the worst thing that could happen? Is it worse than cancer? Not likely.

I was just thrown a Happy Birthday party last night by my family. My DH did a heartwarming speech about how happy and blessed he feels that I am alive and sharing his life. About 60 friends and family came. When they all cheered and clapped for me, I looked around the room and breathed all the love and positive energy in. It was really so wonderful.
-
That sounds wonderful, geewhiz! Happy Birthday!
-
This is awesome!
Sally-great on getting out!
Geewhiz-ahhh, and happy birthday.
Melinda-enjoy your trip and be sure to explain to lucy belle how stiff the competition for ultimate supreme can get. she might want to consider spray tanning.
cheylana-how did you make out with the weather? My inlaws are here in IL visiting from Teaneck, and that's all they can think about
rjbaby=that is wonderful about your family. I am very proud of your dd as well, it's not easy to do what she has done. good for her!
pejkug-the program sounds interesting, and good luck to your dd. I love fall sports.
Heather-wow on the half marathon. I am impressed.
Well, we haven't sunk the boat yet. The craigslist impulse buy that we know nothing about. That's a good thing.lol.
My dd is happy and getting along with her roommate at college. I am happy about that. I was worried.
And our dog, the king of the castle, spoiled baby pudgy the boston terrier, isn't being to much of a drama queen that she is gone. but he seriously walks around the house huffing and puffing and sighing dramatically. He's not even happy when toddlers and tiaras is on and that is his favorite show! I don't think reality tv is the same for him without elle around. what I need is for angie to take up residence on my couch and watch a rupaul marathon with him.

Melinda, I love your attitude. On and off in my life I have tried to sit still and find 10 good things to be grateful for in this day, which was good advice given to me some years ago. My good things are small but they gave me a small uptick today. I have no A-student children, athletes to brag about, no diamonds or expensive trips. There are still small joys.
1. I had bacon on a baked potato for breakfast. I love bacon. I know it's not good for me. Don't bother telling me.
2. My friend didn't freak when he stopped in and saw me with raw JP drains hanging on a string on the outside of my shirt.
3. My dogs keep watch in the front window when I leave and are there at the door to greet me when I come home.
4. My relatives have been way more caring and supportive than I would have ever expected. It's like finding gold in my attic that I didn't know I had.
5. I get to nap without guilt. I come from a tired people.
6. My electricity and air conditioning is on, unlike so many on the east coast. I live in a place where there are no hurricanes. Tornadoes tend to not touch down here. Haven't flooded in the last 40 years. The local nuclear plant has not had a meltdown.
7. All my senses are working. I can hear the wind in the trees and cicadas, feel the beauty of the green here.
8. It's a hard way to get a vacation....not that I'd give 2 tits for a vacation from work.....but it's good to be released for a short while from the stress of that.
9. I think I lucked out with some very good to excellent physicians. I have to learn to trust them more than I do. Sorry doctors, I am just scared for my life and it's hard to trust with that at stake.
10. I'm grateful for this place. I''m obsessed with my new illness. My discomforts, my fears are the same as yours, and I have a place to learn that I am not unique at all. Only those who have been through it can pat me on the head and say, yeah, that's normal or I had that too.
Thanks Melinda, nice thread.

These are all so great to hear about! Believe me, I get very negative but I do love hearing about the good things, it helps me too!
One of the best things that I have going on is my pets who are my babies. They are all in good health and make me happy on a regular basis. My dog daisy gets so excited when we come home, it is so impossible to be sad or mad when she is dancing with joy to see me. I love it. -
My son started community college full time last week. Major relief after his year long vacation after graduation. Very proud of the plan he has mapped out, and how enthusiastic he is. Hoping he stays this enthused.
We moved into our dream house 4 months ago, and I've had a lot of fun decorating it. Other than organizing the garage, I have every room in my house organized, and know where everything I own is at. I've never been able to say that before. I am so proud of the job I've done.
Femara doesn't suck as bad as Arimidex either, and that's a very good thing. My pain is half what it was before.
-
Thanks for the bday wishes. I consider each bday past diagnosis a victory celebration..and LOL!!! Ringosmommy...RuPaul is from my town, hilarious and full of life!
Kimberly1961 you are a born writer. Life is about finding the good in all the small things, isnt it? That is what I have learned most in my journey. When I was going through chemo, I was often too tired to make lunches for my kids for school and they had to "buy". It was so hard for me. Today, I make a HUGE deal out of making sandwiches, and I take napkins and make smiley faces or something equally silly. They love it, even my teen.
I hope everyone keeps posting, this brings a smile!!
-
My 3 boys are all back in school, yeah. My 10 year old got selected to perform with our districts choir. Seven year old hasn't broken his new glasses yet and I haven't heard that my 5 year olds kindergarden teacher has had a mental breakdown-cool.
Best news of all, yesterday I was officially declaired cancer free-God is watching over me.
Oh, and I'm in love with my boyfriend, my kids, my life, and all my wonderful BC sisters.
-
Love this thread Melindy!!!
geewhiz---Happy Birthday. Enjoy them all!!!
Kim---beautiful writing. Simply beautiful. My trying-so-hard-to-be-a-vegan soul hears the call of bacon and has to fight like hell to avoid it. It's a serious siren song.
Mustang and Cassie---someone pack me in their suitcase. Please! I hate flying but the end result is usually worth it.
After a long, long, long time being unemployed, my DH got a job. A good job. And with his first paycheck he took me out to dinner and bought me a present just to say he loved me and that he is so grateful I've stuck with him all of these years. Crying in a restaurant is okay when they are tears of happiness I guess.
-
amidala- I almost cried just reading that about yout DH. That is beautiful and awesome he made a point of thanking you. ANd good for you for sticking by him!
-
Awww, I LOVE reading about everyone's joys. Makes me happy. As for me, DH and I fulfilled a dream we've had since my diagnosis: we bought a house in the country with land. We're happily decorating it (isn't it fun, Wilmar?), cooking in it, and planning what to do with the 10 acres. We still live in the city for work, but go out there on the weekends, and it's great. I have dreams of growing my own food and having goats and chickens, but one thing at a time.
Loving that we are connected again, ladies, and happy to meet all the BCO women who have welcomed us.

Amidala - You made me cry too, and I don't cry easy.
-
Tomorrows my 40th birthday and we are heading to the lake for a long, relaxing weekend to celebrate my NED status I got earlier this week.
-
Survivor 11, that's awesome! Congratulations. A long weekend at the lake sounds like just the thing.
Mimi
-
YAY to NED and yay to celebrating!
I leave tomorrow for Portland and I couldn't be more excited. Being with friends who've GET it and who've been there and had cancer and who get ME is just amazing to me. The friends I'll be with get me completely and I feel completely comfortable with them. That's really rare for me because I naturally just am anxious and try to fit in with people. But with these 2 there is no trying, there just is us laughing and having fun. which is totally what I need right now! -
This is a great thread! Happy to read good news in people's lives!
Cori, you asked "how did you make out with the weather? My inlaws are here in IL visiting from Teaneck, and that's all they can think about
"
I had no trouble whatsoever. No power outage or damage or anything. Very grateful for that! I know New Jersey is a mixed bag -- not sure what happened in Teaneck, but I hope your inlaws also ended up doing ok.

I have been to three new places this summer on my bicycle. Drove there and then rode with a group. Amazing sights, and such fun. Saw the mouth of the Columbia River last Saturday.
I have my full energy back and am moving forward with my career. Haven't landed yet, but I am focused and convinced I will get there. Really excited about this.
I am now stronger and fitter than at any time in my adult life. This was clear when I recently did the same ride as two years ago. Then, I was amongst the laggards; this time, I tore up the road.
I am at a point where I look like "me" again hair-wise.
I am slowly losing the weight I had gained over the winter, so am about 20 pounds below my pre BC weight. I am fit and trim.
My ankle that I hurt when I wiped out cycling earlier this summer is almost healed. (I cycled anyway.)
My friends in NYC and Vermont are all safe.
Just found some new flats on eBay to replace the ones I wore out because my shoe selection was limited this summer (sore ankle).
Blackberries are out so ate some on my walk earlier today. - Claire

My 6 yo son lost his first tooth on our SK 'dream team' trip to Atlantis. He said aren't you so proud of me for growing up mommy!? So, lately glad that my kids are ok and happy and able to enjoy normal kiddie milestones despite this awful year with cancer. We also were at the Bahamas the exact week before Irene hit ( we didn't choose the dates - they were given to us). That is not the way things have happened for us over the last few years, so felt nice to be lucky and to have hope again!

My girls and their significant others came over today to help me repair the pool so I can close it down. The guys also mowed and weed eated my yard. The riding lawn mower wouldn't start so they had to push mow every thing. I am so gratefull to these kids. They really helped their old mom out so much. Now my yard looks nice and my pool will be ready to shut down by Monday. Shutting it down because after I start chemo, I don't want to deal with it.
I am so blessed to have two wonderful girls that care about me alot!
Hugs!

I'm back from my wonderful trip to visit friends and I don't thiink I could have had a better time! I worked 3 days and now I start my stay-cation at home with my DH. He likes to take time off and hang out together so he doesn't waste his vacation days at work.
We have plans to go to the zoo one day and another day celebrate my dog's adopt-a-versary by going to the dog park and doing doggy friendly things. We're big nerds when it comes to our animals.
AND in THREE weeks I will be in Philly with so many old friends and meeting new friends at LBBC conference. -
Tomorrow is my daughter's very first cheer competition. She made the middle school cheer squad! We just finished getting her hair prepped for tomorrow. She has SO MUCH freaking hair and I am very thankful that I managed to help her straighten it and then CURL it without killing her!! lol
I am and happy that my parents have an apartment in my basement and that when I came home from work today, I had hot vegetable soup and cornbread waiting on me.
