mammary lymph nodes

Does any one know:  are the mammary lymph glands removed when one has a mastectomy?  I ask because I have a lump above my 'foob' which seems to be right where those glands are located.  I've had the lump since June - or at least that's when I noticed it. I hope they are gone.

I am not sure about that J9W. I had a mastectomy 1/11/11 w/ no reconstruction. I think it was late February or early march that I discovered a lump about an inch above my mastectomy scar. I got scared, called the surgeon right away. She said that it was probably nothing but if it bothered my that bad, I could have it biopsied. Otherwise, I was told to wait and see if it got bigger. She said it could have been there before my surgery, could be scar tissue...Well, I have gone through four months total of pt for nerve damage and scar tissue and last month, I realize it was gone. I am assuming it was scar tissue that got worked out. I can't believe that scar tissue would form in a little "ball" but I guess mine did. Did you call your surgeon, primary doctor? At least let someone have a "feel" at it and talk to you about it. Please let me know what you find out! I would like to hear that it was nothing and be happy with you, or support you through any bad news.

Duh!!!  I had an appointment yesterday with my BS and forgot to ask her about the mammory glands and whether they are out or not. However, she did feel my lump and believes it's scar tissue. It's probably been there for a while by the time I noticed it. She offered to send me for an MRI which I'll do, however I asked to wait a few months and do a wait see. I hope it turns out to be scar tissue and I don't kick myself in the butt for waiting.  But she didn't seem concerned and I have all kinds of faith in her so now I"m not concerned. I've been doing the 6 month split: mammo in August and MRI in February so I want to wait for Feb.
