Inherited BRAC1 faulty gene

Having a strong family history of breast cancer (grandmother, mother, auntie and sister) I underwent genetic testing and have the BRAC1 gene (as does my auntie, sister and cousin); my mum sadly died a few years ago.

Although my 18 year old son is obviously well aware of the family history he does not know about the genetic testing as I hadn't wanted to burden him with it.   He has now discovered a small lump near his nipple and because of the family history he has been referred for a possible mammogram/biopsy.

Now we know that statistically it is extremely unlikely that he will have breast cancer and once this has been confirmed (hopefully!) by the hospital should we consider broaching the genetic subject with him?

I would be really grateful for any advice from anyone who has been/is in a similar situation.

Thank you x
