looking down my shirt...
every time i bend over to put my babe in his car seat, or when he pulls on my shirt or just generally living, i find that my breast forms just hang down with the bra, revealing scars, not to mention the fact that they're phony boobs.... I feel self conscious, like i'm trying to hide a secret.. Does anyone know of ANY ITEM OF CLOTHING that will either stay in place when you bend over, or something to wear over the bra... a really good covering camisole, or dickie or ANYTHING????
I had resorted to only wearing crew cut shirts (which i personally do not like) and that's just not cutting it.
HELP!

It may depend on the size and weight of your forms (foobs, prostheses), but I've had good luck with camisoles and also with Barely There bras, which are tight enough to hold my various prostheses in place. Good luck with finding your best solution.

I nearly always wear a vest-top over the bra, whatever else I'm wearing, I find that the sports vests that are elasticated hug in nicely, will try to post a link to what I have on today...(see below).... and I switched from silicone breastform to lightweight beanies, much less drag and feels better too. My first form after the fibrefill I got post-surgery from the hospital, was a Harmony Silk Triangle which I found to be quite heavy, (and also a revolting colour, I would like to know who, dead or alive, has skin that colour!!) now I have a BeenaBoob from Janac sportswear and a Silique Superlight which is a triangular-shaped beanie. www.nicolajane.com have pics and prices (UK)
http://www.sportsdirect.com/adidas-essential-3-stripe-tank-top-ladies-656183?colcode=65618306 is a link to today's vest as near as I can find it, the v-neck comes to two inches above the nipple line, and with a shirt over it's fairly age-appropriate, though the shocking pink, (it isn't really salmon,) colour maybe isnt'
! I do have it in black too which is a real wardrobe staple-item. I only really need the shirt as well because of my LE sleeve, have had no trouble with it hanging forward.
I think there are also breastforms you can get which stick to the skin, that might help either, if your skin is in good condition not wrecked by recent radiotherapy. And tell that lovely boy that mommy's boobie is a no-touch zone, just like the dangly earrings! (or fill his hands with teddies so he can't grab!)

Have you looked at cami secret ? Basically it's a piece of fabric that snaps onto your bra straps. Giving the illusion you are wearing a lace trimmed camisole underneath.
Got a 3 pack (white, black, beige) a couple months ago in the "as seen on tv" aisle of CVS pharmacy.
Helps me be more comfortable in a few of my v-necked shirts that tended to gap open.
-
Thanks Kathleen,
Doing a search for the cami secret, i came across the BRAMI... looks interesting. Looks like it provides side coverage too for those wide arm openings.....
-
Have you tried "tit tape"? I think its proper name is lingerie tape - basically it is double sided tape that you can use to stick clothes to your skin. And there are "modesty panels" which you can attach to shirts etc to fill the gap.

THANK YOU for this topic. I have been SO DIS- heartened all summer long by this same problem!
My scars just dangle if I bend over...argh! I have been brainstorming what to wear over the bra to keep it snug against me.... my forms are the TLC microbeads/ B.... and they have a mind of theyre own as well and like to travel in the pockets in my bra... Im not getting along with my silicone foobs at all.
somedays I just feel like I am living on a very strange planet... and I would like to use my Foobs and launch them with the bras with the pockets they swim in as cars drive by.
somedays its easier being flat and confusing everyone while I'm at it.
arrgggahhhh! sometimes I laugh.....( just sometimes)

There are tops out there that don't gap when you bend over. I've got tanks, v-neck tees, and scoop necks that stay in place. In fact, in my avatar I'm wearing one of them, a Chico's tank. It can take some trial and error, but they're out there. Don't lose heart.

I've considered trying a bandeau bra.. has anyone had any success with those?
-
Hi there! I just wanted to throw in my two cents worth. I tried several mastecomy bras for my prosthetics, and had the same problem with bending over. I finally bought a bandini bra, I got mine at belk, but they have them at walmart also. It worked really well. I bought a size smaller than I would usually wear so it would fit super tight and not fall away from my chest. It worked pretty well for me!
-
HLoveday,
Thanks! I just googled it and this looks PERFECT! On a mission to get some Fast!
-
Littleflower, I have the same exact problem. I live in Florida and crew necks make me feel over dressed, not to mention hot. I miss wearing tank tops or more feminine-looking tops.
I just bought the cami secret from Walgreens this morning and am going to return it. Although it looks pretty and provides coverage when you are standing up, it does gape when you bend over. I am always bending over to pick up my son and am paranoid that people can see my scars, especially at the playground or store.
I am hoping to find a bra that has a wide gusset in the front that will lay flat to my chest, so that when I bend over, it will stay in place and not reveal my socks stuffed inside or my scars.
Good luck.

Hi Hoolianama,
As I mentioned above, there are tanks that cling, though they're not always easy to find. Also, Amoena and other bra manufacturers make camisole bras. The newest Amoena version is called the Dana bra (http://www.amoena.com/us/Products/Lingerie/Style/Dana.htm). It isn't cheap, but if you have insurance, that should cover at least a couple of bras a year. I realize that you're talking about day-in-day-out issues with bending over to lift your son, etc.. I find that scoop neck tees can work. I also recently bought a couple of L.L. Bean sleeveless tees. They do have a high neck, but are loose and cool, and being sleeveless, they feel summery (even for Florida). And they come in lots of colors, so they might be a good option. Here's the link:http://www.llbean.com/llb/shop/31482?feat=504209-GN2.
-
Erica,
Thanks for the LL bean link.... this shell is a go! Is it something dressy enough to wear under a cardigan for work?
-
I would think so, depending on the dress code where you work. It's held up well after several washings.
-
For special occasions if you want to wear a particular top, I recommend the body glue "it stays" to stick the bodice to your body. Will stick a wig well enough to withstand a tornado, is clear and washes off with water. Also will stick foobs to you. So if you were needing to be super secure for something, you could glue the foobs AND the shirt bodice to yourself.
Also great for thigh high stockings, lingerie, socks, body jewelry....you could probably even glue a fake parrot to your shoulder if you want. (And if you do, post pics!)
A live parrot would be inadvisable.
-
Erica! thanks for your support, and EVERTHING that you do here on BCO and your site.
The Amoena camisole bra looks like what I need. My Fitter does not carry them... i wear a size 40 bra/ b cup microbeads and or whipped silicone forms... i am not sure how to figure out what I need. I find some of my forms swim around too much in theryre pockets...
The LL Bean tanks look great, I just need very high coverage beyond my armpit.....thank yo for both of these links....
Pam thanks for the info on the glue....maybee one day I will be headed on trying that.
Blessings to all.

Hi brazos,
Regarding the camisole bra, if you order online from a reputable website, you can return anything that doesn't fit or exchange it for a different size. Even though this means extra shipping costs, with something as lightweight as a bra, the expense shouldn't be too great. Here's a link to an online retailer who discounts the bra price slightly. I'm guessing it's less than your fitter would charge. http://www.metromedicalonline.com/amoena2751.html. So what you pay extra for in shipping you would hopefully make up with the discount.
Thanks for your kind comments about me and BreastFree.org. And thanks for sharing your experience. Just like you, I find that sometimes my forms travel in my pocket. In my case, I've realized that my sternum is more prominent than either side of my chest, so forms tend to migrate away from my sternum, toward my underarms. My solution has been to make sure the forms I use in a particular bra fill the pockets. If I don't have forms that can do that with a particular bra, I sometimes put a few stitches in the bra pocket, making it smaller, so the forms can't wander. I wonder if that might work for you.

Thanks Erica for the tips. I will check into them as soon as I can.
I did buy the bandini bra today at Walmart and am much happier with them (2 in 1 pack). I got the X-Small size which covers a 32 A- B chest. It was a little struggle over my head, but not to bad. Once on, it feels super comfortable. At least now my scars are covered.
-
forgive my ignorance but what brand is the bandini bra? i looked at walmart and didnt find it?
-
shippy,
i think it's a hanes, 2 pack.. i just ordered mine on amazon last week so i can't remember but a quick google showed hanes......i'll definitely post if i love em.
-
Got the bandini yesterday. I think they're gonna work great! Tried them on over my bra and seem to hold everything in place and against my chest wall so I'm excited that this might work!! Go Hanes!
-
Barely There also has one they call "CustomFlex Fit" Bandini - also in a 2 pack.
-
I just got my Barely There Bandinis. Disappointed - I don't think they're going to work well for me. I'm a 36C with an implant on one side and a prosthesis on the other. The bras come up pretty high and fit tightly on the chest, but my regular forms seem to be too heavy. They pull the bra down on that side and also move around. Tried my microbead form too - that's better but moves around more than I'm comfortable with too. Any suggestions?
I think I'll keep them and can use them some, but they're just not the answer I was hoping for. They probably work better with smaller, lighter forms.

Hello Everyone,
This is the first time I have posted here! I actually purchased a article of clothing called the Cami Too. It works perfect. Unlike the product called Cami Secret, this one stays put. It is very lightweight and is lacy so it looks very pretty underneath everything. It comes in 3 colors, white, black and ivory. I wish it came in more colors. Being that it is lacy and lightweight it does not add any bulk to anything you wear ...it is like you have on nothing but it gives you coverage. I had many tops i could no longer wear for they were V Neck and i was afraid you would be able to see something but now I wear all my tops.
You have to attach it to your bra straps. The only problem i found in the beginning was it would come off of my strap but now when i put it on, I fold my bra strap in half and then slip the hook over that. It never slides off now. It takes a minute to unhook it when you are getting undressed but that's no problem. I would think if your bra strap was thin you would not even have to fold it in half but I think pretty much all our bras the straps are wider.
JC Penney sells them and you can order them from many places. JC Penney used to sell them 2 in a package for the price of one but they do not do that any longer. I gave you some websites that I have purchased them from. I even ordered a new one from E Bay for hardly anything.
I dont know if the websites i put will work for you but if you just google it or go directly into JC Penney website you will find them .. JC Penney does not sell the ivory one, I have all 3 colors but have only worn the black one so far. It goes with everything. It comes in different sizes. I just now see that it also comes in a ribbed style. It is the last website I put here
So nice to meet all of you and hope everyone is doing ok .. so look into this product and see what you think

I'm sorry, i dont think JC Penney carries them anymore, i was just looking. Gosh I made a long post didnt I ... Bye

Maybe this has been covered, but is there a foob in between a microbead (comfy, but floats around) and silicone (looks good but heavy and hot)? Seems like there should be something. I also have a weighted foam form but it is too cone-shaped. I'm really getting frustrated and not being evenly matched. I saw a recent photo and ugh, it is worse than I thought.
-
Hi shelleyj43,
Silique makes a very nice form that's silicone in front, with fabric backing in the back and microbeads in between. It looks very lifelike and is definitely huggable and cooler than regular silicone forms. Here's a link to a site that sells them, which also describes the form in more detail: http://www.truekare.com/silique_comfort.htm.
They are less expensive than other silicone forms. If you have insurance, you might be able to submit it yourself for coverage (online sites generally don't accept insurance). The forms are returnable if they don't fit, so long as they're like new.
I also like the Amoena 132, which is a new weighted foam form with a backing that is meant to reduce perspiration and provide some antibacterial protection. Here's a link, so you can take a look: http://www.metromedicalonline.com/amoena132.html?utm_medium=shoppingengine&utm_source=googlebase&cvsfa=1861&cvsfe=2&cvsfhu=616d6f656e61313332.

Wow, thanks Barbara, I will check them both out. I am due a new form so insurance will cover it.

Shelley,
If you have a local fitter whom you like, you might also visit her and ask to try the Amoena Energy form, which is designed to reduce perspiration behind the form. Some women love it. I've tried it and do like it better than other silicone forms, but it's not the magic bullet for me. Also, TruLife makes a new BodiCool form which also aims to keep women cooler. They're more expensive than the two I mentioned above, but if your insurance will cover, they would be worth checking out.
You might find it helpful to take a look at the Breast Forms section of my non-profit website, BreastFree.org, where I recommend forms I and other women have found the most comfortable and attractive. The ones I've mentioned in these posts are listed there.
