So I have an appointment with a breast surgeon this afternoon and will find out just what it is he is planning to do to me.  I have after an MRI guided biopsy been diagnosed so far with Benign Intraductal papillomata. Focal FEA (flat epithelial atypia).  I'm suspecting that the surgeon is going to want to do an excisional biopsy.

    Benign is good!!!!

Honestly... I don't know how old you are... but I'm 27 and am dealing with a potential diagnosis right now. I would probably do anything for peace of mind so an excisional biopsy is the way to go! It's worth all the risk if it gets that thing out of you!!

Best of luck and warmest wishes!!!!

I'm just turned 36 with a family history of breast cancer.  So yes, I want it out rather then continue with a potential time bomb in my boob.

I think I'm more nervous about the timeline, I'm in the midst of training for a half marathon that is in 6 weeks.  I'm hoping that if the excision is the plan that they won't give me grief about wanting to have it done after the race.  It's emotionally really important to me to do this run and if I can't I'm going to be pretty upset.

Eluned - Yes, benign is good. Not sure why an excisional biopsy would be in order following a benign biopsy, but I have no qualification to weigh in on that. Don't asume that a surgical procedure in September would keep you out of the race. It's possible you'd only miss a week of training, so you might think about fast-tracking the surgery to get back to training.

About "giving you grief", I've found the caregivers in this field are tremendously caring, supportive and understanding.

Good luck at the appointment. Here's hoping surgery isn't even necessary. Be well.

Well I got attitude from the booking clerk when they were scheduling the MRI biopsy because I wasn't available for the first appointment they had open.

The papillomata is benign, the concern is from the Focal FEA.

Only missing a week of training would be good.  I was out for about 2 weeks after the MRI biopsy though.  They took 18 samples and I had a lot of bruising.

Hope you got the news you wanted to hear from the BS.  I am scheduled for an excisional biopsy on Sept. 1 after my stereotactic core biopsy showed ADH.  I understand you wanting to postpone any procedure until after the half-marathon.  I enjoy high-intensity aerobics and weight lifting and am going to have a hard time taking it easy for the week after per docs orders.  I also had a lot of brusing on my core biopsy along with a large hematoma.  It made it very painful to participate in medium to high impact exercising.  Wishing you all the best.
