Shoulder problems 2 years later

Options

Hi all,

I was treated for breast cancer in 2008-2009 and am a medical transcriptionist.  I have been having a lot of pain in my shoulder when I work for the past few months.  I read an article today that said radiation can cause the shoulder to freeze up so to speak.  Is there anyone else that has pain and difficulties with the shoulder on the radiated side? I am considering disability because it is too painful to work.

Hi Cathie Just saw your post. I have been dealing with a crazy painful shoulder for over a year now but it is not on the side that was radiated. I have been to physio, not doing the exercise enough though. Terrible time sleeping and a work (by the way I am a medical secretary too) I have been using a headset for the phones because I figured holding the phone under my ear could have been causing this.  The pain was getting bad again and seemed to be radiating down my arm so I was getting a little scared so doctor did an x-ray, all is fine. The US last year did show a calcified tendonitis. My doctor gave me an anti-inflammatory that is now helping. I see you were also diagnosed in 2008. I had bilateral breast cancer Stage 1 Grade 2 no nodes but also Her2 positive. Anyway Cathie I wish you well and hope you can get relief from the pain it really is awful Take care LoisLaughing

Hi all.  I had radiation in June/July 2010 and had a latissimus dorsi flap surgery done last November.  I thought I was probably about as good as I was going to get and this might be my "new normal".  I just saw my plastic surgeon for a follow up this week and told him that I had some pain in my shoulder in different places and he said that I had some loss of range of motion and he was sending me for physical therapy to help with the damage from the radiation.  You might see if you could benefit from physical therapy as well. Good luck! Thank you for responding. I have been through PT twice already, and she got my range of motion as far as she could.  She said she could not get me to full range of motion.
