YSC ladies moving over from FB?

Hi Melinda!
-
Welcome to the YSC folks. Glad to see Moderators welcomed you too. Yup, it's a HUGE Forum, and that's why the Moderators were, ah, well, sort of asking for a bit of 'decorum" - but glad my friend Blue has given you ALL the great subsitutes, if plain ole @^#%*^# doesn't work - there's always Phuque. Blue started the I Say Yes, You Say No thread - great home to wonderful women - which got taken OFF the active list ( it was always on the top) when a few people started making a REAL HISSYFITFUSS about some of the "language."
So, welcome, please feel very much at home at BCO. Lots of great Forums, and I'm sure you will have much to add - you'll find so many "newbies" posting and asking questions - terrifying, in a way, as so many of th newly diagnosed are so, so young - like most of you. I'm a VERY senior as in Medicare age - but bc still sucks.
Again, welcome. Don't forget to fully use the PM function too.

OMG, I remembered my login from 2008! Hoping maybe I can chime in more often than I'm able to on the FB group -- I get so fucking confused over there. Perhaps because I am old?!?
-
Drea-maybe that was my problem! I just never had anything to say. shocking I know. once in a great while I would chime in with support, but frankly, my support seemed pretty half assed at best. It just didn't seem to be right for me.
Sally-ha, you were holding out on us were you??lol. the years do go so fast. my son is half way through college already! I just can't believe it.
Melinda-how are your teeth doing? i see you are on vicadent, i presume for that?
cassie-I totally agree, that's a GREAT policy. if people don't sign their names I won't sign them for them.
I knew you were smarter than me.
I really appreciate all the warm welcomes we are getting. I am personally thrilled at the idea of making new friends.
Tasha-I am planning on seeing you next week to get my hands on those tomatoes. which sounds really creepy but you know what I mean.lol.
It was hard dropping elle. she didn't have a roommate, as her originally assigned roomie decided not to come. so friday was super rough on her, very lonely. she put a sign up on her door saying 'roommate wanted inquire within'. she had gone out to lunch and when she came back her sign was gone so she thought, uh uh, I must have done something, but lo and behold, a roomie has shown up and written her a note introducing herself. they are like twinsies already. they are getting along swimmingly. she has a super huge room with a full wall of windows that has a view of lake michigan, so it's nice and bright and cheerful. We bought her books and she's good to go.
Julian came home over night so we gave him his birthday presents. Nothing but the best for the firstborn...we scored two great gifts at garage sales for him. lol. I bought him a mounted pair of vintage cow horns. bizarre but fitting for his house. five bucks. and you know the chalkboard/placards you see on sidewalks outside of pub/restaurants? I bought him a chi-irish miller lite one. It's super nice! perfect condition. three bucks. a few weeks ago dan bought him three LIFESIZED holiday soldiers. they are atleast my height...5'6....one is playing a trumpet, one is the drum major, and one is playing the drums. three for 25 bucks. we delivered them to his college when we dropped elle. his roommates were totally thrilled. they have them positioned in the front windows with purple lighting behind them. quite creepy at night actually. I hope there are a few more good garage sales so I can finish christmas shopping.

Loving this already!!!!! Glad to see the welcome messages and conversations getting started! YAY!
-
Wait, cori, what happened to the Children of the Corn statue for julian??
-
My teeth hurt like hell, I have this huge gap in my mouth and it throbs like crazy now that its not numb. Sucks sss.
Love seeing drea and others here. So great!.I need to start a thread about withdrawal from effexor so I can get some help with this depression. -
Hang in there Melinda! I hope the mouth pain eases up really soon! <333
(I think the avatar works now!) -
HI ladies- Welcome and forgive the silly question, what does YSC stand for ??
-
Hi, Bevin - It stands for Young Survival Coalition.
-
My, my..look how this thread has grown! I LOVE IT!! Drea - good to see you! Hi Bevin and Sunflowers..thanks for the welcome. We may have some "sassy" sailor mouths, but it's a joke we started at YSC - if you can't laugh about this..how would you deal? We had an entire thread on YSC called the F*ck thread and it was hilarious! A way we could vent when things seemed dark.
Funny story - haven't been "out" or had cocktails much since the big re-diagnosis day, mostly because I was afraid I'd spiral right on out of control - pleased to say I finally went out and let loose last night (after taking a 2 hour nap, so I could hang with my non-sicky friends). Holy cow - had six beers and I was TOAST. So much fun. We had a town festival called Altoonapalooza -- beer garden and bands...totally apropo (?) that the band that was playing was called...TOASTER. They were great -- all our Shady Oaks 80's hairband music. I was dancing, drinking and well quite frankly acting like my teenage self. I needed that almost as much as I needed this!! Feeling pretty crappy today, but it was so worth it! Yay me!
-
Cori- Poor Elle! I am so glad for her she found a roommate, that really can be so lonely that first time away. That had to have been hard for her but she seems to have bounced back so that's good.
Sally-that is too funny that you were afraid to let loose but good for you that you finally did. I bet it felt good to be with your friends even if you're paying for it today lol.
My teeth are getting better, I think. I'm randomly in a lot of pain so that sucks. I'm still really struggling with the emotional part of the withdrawal from effexor. I've been struggling with depression- in particular that feeling of poor me, nobody loves me. I hate that feeling and I know that it's not true but those feelings creep in and I get all emotional very easily. I can't wait for this to be over. -
Hang in there, Melindy. You can do this! And for the record....I love you!
-
Welcome YSC gals,
I was 7 months too old at dx to join your group, so could only admire the camraderie from afar. Hard to believe that your boards were removed and facebook was substituted. What were they thinking?
Hope you enjoy your new home....
*susan*
-
Welcome! I was 20 years too old to join your group. LOL Just wanted to let you know that you don't need to worry about burning my old ears. This place could use some pepping up and I think you're just what the doctor ordered.
-
How old did you have to be for the YSC? As you can see from my signature, I am relatively new to all of this compared to a lot of others on this post. I have never heard of the Young Survivor's Coalition. I don't know anything about other sites. I found this one and have never tried to find any others. I love this one. Welcome:)
Hope

Susan, Alpal and Wendy72 - the technical age at YSC was diagnosed under the age of 40, but we had gals posting diagnosed anywhere up to and around 45. It really was a great board at the time - now, not so much. They tried to make it too much like a social networking site where you had to friend people and join groups. Not fun, so most of us joined a private group of FB, but it wasn't the same, so here we are. All are welcome - we just chose this forum to gather everyone and let me tell ya - a lot of us are over 40 now, but still young. join on in. Thanks for the welcome!
-
Yep, all ages are welcome, we have a lot of women of all ages, it was never a thing where over 40 years exactly and GO AWAY lol.
I'm 29 but I have a lot more in common with some of the 45 year olds than the 25 year olds partying and drinking. -
It's great to have everyone back together again (and new people, too)! Thanks, Melinda and Cori!
Cori, I feel you on taking your DD to school. My DS is only 15, but we had a little taste of it dropping him at a summer program this summer. I often wish I knew you better-- you seem like a great and sane parent. WIsh I could buy you a drink (er, quinoa platter) and benefit from your sage advice.
Hope you're feeling better, Melinda. Mouth pain and otherwise. Here to remind you that you are loved-- hell, you're the belle of the freaking ball. Hope the pain and emotional clouds lift soon.

Hey, I'm a bit beyond YSC age (46 at dx, 50 (gasp!) now), but I also wanted to welcome y'all . . . and to commiserate with ringosmommy about dropping kids off at college. My one and only is a freshman this year, too, and the house seems awfully quiet. I haven't been tearful -- got choked up just once when we were on campus together -- but damn: the house is really, really, awfully quiet.
P.S. I got a little shock when you mentioned that Elle's dorm room has a view of Lake Michigan; is she going to Loyola, by any chance? If so, feel free to PM me. That's where my daughter's at.
-
I think I was wrong earlier....YSC the organization is 40 and under..the conference is officially 45.
Unless I have it all mixed up!
-
I'm 26 and newly diagnosed. I had found YSC, but found it hard to navigate. I've really come to like this site and it's threads. I'm glad to see some people closer to my age here.
-
HI Jendon!
I always get excited to see women around my age since we're so rare-ish in the cancer world. I was dx at 25. Where are you at in treatment?
and jenxreboot hi, love seeing you here -
Hi all! Good to see so many old young friends. Love, Erica35
-
Hi, Erica!! Hope you all weathered Irene okay!
-
Okay I know that I can post his safely here-
FUCK YOU CANCER!!! LEAVE MY FAMILY THE FUCK ALONE!
My DH's aunt was diagnosed last week with ovarian (possible mets from some place else) and today my vet called an my 4 year old beagle/mix that developed a lump this week has lymphoma. I am heartbroken and telling my 6 year old that his dog is that sick is just breaking my heart.
-
Just wanted to welcome you guys to the site! I was dx back in Jan at the age of 36 and found this place to be a godsend!!! Although it sucks that we are all young, it's nice to know we aren't alone!
-
I never know the conference had a 45 age specified....is that saying if you are diagnosed under 40 we only want you to attend until you are 45????? Yeah.....I am still harboring some anger here - can you tell!!!!
-
Oh Jaimie I am so sorry, that has to be so hard for you to hear and for you to tell your son. Ugh...cancer sucks, and it needs to leave us all alone
-
Awful, Jaimie. I'm so sorry.
