Ladies in their 40's Welcome to Shady Oaks!
It seems on these boards that is considered "Middle Aged", but I beg to differ!! No offense meant to anyone, but I don't think someone who is 40 can really be put in the same catergory as someone who is 60, that is quite a gap.
I was diagnosed at 39--almost five years ago. Still consider myself young. Although if truth be told, I will probably consider myself young at 90!
So for those of us not ready to grab our walkers just yet--grab your favorite drink, throw on some rockin' MP3's and let's party!!!

I'll bring the 80's hairband tunes! Checking into Shady Oaks at the ripe young age of 42 -- of course,
-
Oh, and I'm grabbing my legwarmers and my rainbow t-shirt. Think those will look pretty rad with my frizzy dry, Xeloda hair!!
-
WHAM! All the way baby!
I still think Shady Oaks is a nudist colony but you know me, I am always up for a good party - clothes or no clothes.
I'm only 3 months into this 40 thing.
It's Hammer Time!!
-
Middle-aged, huh? Scooch on over on that Shady Oak bench for this 44-year-old!
-
I love you "old ladies"!! hahah!!
-
Checking in with my Van Halen (David Lee Roth) and Pat Benatar rockin' 41 year old self!
I too was TOO young for cancer.
-
Lovin' the music choices ladies!! I have to bring my man Bon Jovi along to the party!!
I wonder if I can get my hair all nice and big like I used to?
-
Hell, yeah. JBJ is always welcome at Shady Oaks. I would also like to include the 80's/90's version of Sebastian Bach (Current version not so much!) . He was my fantasy man back then -- that hair, that voice!! Damn, I'm one perverted golden girl.
Good to see my hysto hasn't affected my fantasy.
-
How is it that nobody has brought Prince to Shady Oaks yet? I pulled up in my Little Red Corvette. With my Raspberry Beret. (Playing Rick Springfield on the cassette player!)
-
Of course, we have to have Prince -- time to party like it's 1999...crap - there I go showing my age again. Bouncing back out now singing at the top of my lungs (thanks Cass)...oooh I wish that I had Jesse's girl.....
-
Umm, I hate to be the crotchey old lady here, but y'all know how I am.......plus i like to think of myself as the resident know-it-all....but I'm pretty sure (and I'll bet a drink on it - in Philly!) that the old folks home that Sophia was always being threatened with was Shady PINES, not Shady Oaks.
"How would you like to go sit outside underneath the shady PINES, mother?" Dorothy would threaten.
I think.
If I'm wrong, I blame tamoxisurly. :-)

Shady Oaks, Shady Pines, whatever!! As long as we are hanging together I'm happy! Rick Springfield-check! Sebastian Bach-Check! And Prince-Check!! I remember thinking he was soooo hot back in the day. My mom was mortified! I recently watched Purple Rain again-not sure what I saw. I was thinking --ewww!! I remember going to the store and buying every tape he had made up to that point too! Funny the things we do when we are kids!
-
Shady Pines, Ma !
-
Woo hoo...a thread just for us inbetweeners! 42 at DX now 44..which sounds sooooo old.
-
-
Cookiegal! We're not old! Nay! We're....ummmm.......non-old! Yeah, so there. :-)
Miss C.
-
48, am I too old for this bunch? How about some Culture Club? Love Boy George!
-
Just turned 43 a few days before my diagnosis.. I wouldn't mind some tunes from the past from Styx or Journey while sipping on a margarita or long island!
-
Gahhh. Sebastian Bach!!! He did a stint on Gilmore Girls and I just swooned every week he showed up on my screen....
-
48 is NOT old Kay lol. You'd think I'd put your name and my age together and realize we were the same age. I call chemo brain lol.
And I swear I'm not stalking you this is truly a coincidence! -
edited to remove double post.
-
LOL!
-
80's hair bands & margaritas? COUNT ME IN PLEASE!!! Failed my base line mammy (congrtats on turning forty & fabulous!) so I think I qualify.....lol Oh, and I brought plenty of hairspray ....
-
Mmmmmm....margaritas! I've decided we can't be at Shady Oaks without Journey and Def Leppard! Are they invited? Pour some sugar on me and remember, don't stop believin!! Hey Odie...can I borrow some of that hairspray??
-
MustangIA,
You must be my kindred spirit.....lol You don't mind White Rain right? If I am napping, feel free to "shake me" with Cinderella......
-
Odie - Totally kindred spirits! If we run out of White Rain, I've heard AquaNet really helps get the hair big! I'm pretty sure there is still a photo of me in my college sorority house with hair that looked like I stuck my finger in a light socket! Aw, the good old days when "Life was just a Fantasy....am I the only one with Aldo nova on my Ipod?? LOL. Oh, and how about...It's the final countdown...dana na na..dana na na na... ha ha... This is fun!!
-
Well, if there's gonna be dancing, we must have the "Material Girl."
But, I vote for mojitos over margaritas. -
It was a sad day for me a couple of weeks ago when I was waiting for an MRI and they had the oldies station on and they were playing MADONNA.
Madonna on the oldies station? Ugh. -
Guess I best start tuning into the oldies station...... Oh the things we think of "In the still of the night" .... (during insomnia)
By the way, MustangIA, I LOVE the ball & chain of Aldo Nova.... Just hoping the "Poison" does it's job.....
So glad we have this healthy outlet to destress. Thanks so much ladies
-
did someone invite that smoking HOT billy squire to the party? i have seen him twice in the last few years, and let me tell you, he is freaking HOT as hell. In the dark. In the light, he's HOT.
add me to the senior roster ladies, I'm pulling out my AARP card and I'm ready to party!!
Cori (turning 43 in Philly next month)
