I went to CVS today to buy Emu oil, and they didn't have it. Where can I buy it? No rads today yet I am depressed. I guess it is because I am separated from my husband, and it's difficult to go through all of this alone.

ceeztheday:  I'll probably go for the radiation ride with you, I have been put off 2 times already with an infection after surgery.  My next appt. is on Tuesday (though I have had simulation and dry run.)  Hopefully we'll both squeek into August.  Good luck!

To all of you on the east coast (I'm in southern Massachusetts), stay safe tonight and tomorrow.

Stay safe Leighsa.  The storm sure looks like a beast.  I hope you don't have any damage.  Please stay away from trees!

Kate, I checked online and there are a number of places you can order it.  However if you want it right away, try a health food store.  That is where Merilee got hers.

Sorry about your depression.....it goes with the territory and then a recent separation?  Wow, you have a lot on your plate right now.  I am really sorry.  Big hugs.....

MamaV . . . Wow, I feel so bad for you. Chemo sounded horrible for you . . . I had the same as you did . . . 4 a/c and 12 taxol. Lost most of hair, eyebrows, eyelashes but never lost a lb . . . And felt fine all the way through. . . So strange howceverybody reacts. Can you tell me about "almost" losing 4fingernails? Did they stay on?

    Hi Janis,

Again you are a sweetheart giving me so much support. Does anyone know if Whole Foods has Emu Oil. Yes cancer and a separation is a lot on my plate, but I am resilient, and I will be okay. God spared me when it came to cancer. Thank God I don't need chemo, my cancer didn't spread, and I am a stage 1. So our sisters, who have worse cancer problems, are the ones we need to take care of right now. Sorry if I am a big complainer, but somehow worrying and complaining keeps me resilient, if you understand that lol. I hope everyone appreciates how nice you are.

Hi Janis . . . The nurse told me that I can use either Toms deodorant or Krystal . . . I found both at Walgreens.

After wire localization and 2 lumpectomy's I have some skin at the very top of my breast that is hard. It was hard before I started radiation. Does anyone else have that too? Also, I have a long scar that seems hard too. After 3 radiation treatments the rest of my breast is ok. I don't notice any changes. Is anyone else besides me going to have breast implants or fat grafting after lumpectomy's and radiation? By the way is it lumpectomy's or lumpectomies lol.

Kate I have those same issues with both my scars.  The one from the Sentinal Node Biopsy and the second one where the tumor was.  They feel thick, almost rope like.  I had surgery July 11, so not sure how long it takes for the underlying tissue to thin out again.

Kate you have had a miserable time....going through a separation and cancer together is so difficult!  You have to be resiliant to move through this.  Getting support is a wonderful too.  We all need it and don't feel like you are complaining!  You are reaching out!

    Lumpectomies......

Shayes, thanks for the info on the deodorant.  Thank goodness, so hot here!

    Hugs.....

    Janis

    Hi Janis,

It is good to know that I am not alone regarding hardened skin, but I am sorry it has to be you. I had my first lumpectomy 3 days before you on July 8, and my second one August 1. You truly are one of the nicest people on this site.

Kate:  Wow.  Having to go through a separation and cancer is truly awful.  Sending hugs to you and wishing you the best of luck.

I ordered a brand called Progressive Emu Oil from Amazon.  It took less than a week to arrive even at the cheapest shipping rate.

Hi Shayes It just started raining hard and thunder and loud outside.  But other wise I am ok.  It nice to hear from someone in the same state.  I also go on a site for Ct BC women and it is great that it is not far away.

Janis you truly are a sweetheart. I am very resilient and very hopeful. I have two wonderful children that help me get through all of this bad stuff. I hope you have sweet dreams. It is so wonderful to have your support, and whenever you need a shoulder I am here.

Kate...I am thrilled to hear you have two supportive children.  How old are they?  I have two adult sons, we live in different states and that is hard.  Still we keep in touch via phone.  I also have two Golden Retrievers.  Talk about love sponges!  I hug on them a lot!

We are here for each other Kate.  I sent you a PM earlier today, not sure if you got it or not.

Be good to yourself.  Do something special, like a warm bubble bath if you like those.  Curl up with a good book if you are a reader.  Start a journal...often getting all your thoughts out helps.  Or listen to your favorite music with dimmed soft lighting.  Just find something that gives you a sense of peace.  One hour every day.  Do it for you!  You deserve it!

I know you are here for me too.  Thanks Kate!  We'll hold cyber hands and get through this!

Shayes my nails lifted about half way back to the cuticle (the toe nails lifted all the way off which is why I lost them). I kept my fingernails really short so they wouldn't lift more. They are now growing out - no more lifting.

Hang in there everyone. Lots of hugs and prayers for all

    Hi Kate

Sorry to hear about your separation. I also went through that while on chemo. Not easy but I am better off for it. I do not miss him. I miss the idea of having someone, but not him. You really find out who is in your corner when you get cancer. People show their true colors for sure.

Hug those kids, as they will be your greatest inspiration. Hope you find the Emu oil.

Everyone on the East coast I am praying that the weather is sparing you and your realtives! Boy or boy that is a nasty storm. Almost as nasty as our cancer.

I wanted to let you know what it is like after rads. Yesterday I threw the Tom's deo in the garage and started using my Secret. Today I was happy and said to my husband that I don't have the Sunday depression over starting rads again on Monday. The Hawaiian red is definitely turning a beautiful shade of brown. I wish it can migrate to my legs.

Shayes I am not scared of being done. I am making all these appts to see the skin nurse, MO and RO in the next 6 weeks. So it really is not that scarey. I am looking forward to going back to work in a few weeks. I still need a lot of rest at the moment.

MamaV we liberated a human society dog from your area yesterday. For newer people, one of my dogs (the gray one) died almost 3 weeks ago...right in the middle of my treatment. We got a white/cream color schnauzer now. Shayes I am scared of training another dog! I hope I get it right.

Merilee good news...I am not itching like I was 1 week ago. It does decrease. I wish I would have know about the emu oil. Sounds like a miracle cure.

Kate I believe that you will find a person that truly deserves you! You are such a caring, warm individual! Good thoughts to you.

SAB I am so sorry for your setback. Hopefully you will be starting soon. Just think...the weather will be cooler and it might be easier than what we had to deal with in August and the hot temperatures.

#12 done Friday.  My skin is a little pink, but it's not uncomfortable.  You can actually seen the outline of the radiation field - as a circle around my breast (I'm very fair skinned).  The one thing I do notice is my breast is sensitive - especially the nipple, if I brush my arm against it while moving about.  Just have to take extra care in the shower because the power of the spray is a bit of an ouch!  I've not had to use any lotions or creams, yet, but have them waiting in the wings!

You are all so amazing!!  (just had to add that!!)

     -Ann

    Hi Janis,

My chidren are grown also. I am doing things that I enjoy, especially with rads going on. Today I splurged and went to my hairdresser just to get a blow out. You know the old saying if you look good you feel good. I hope you are having a nice day.

    Hi Merilee,

Oh my gosh you have been through so much. So difficult to be on chemo without a signifigant other. I too do not miss my husband, but I do miss having a special man in my life. You are so right about folks showing their true colors when you have cancer. I haven't found Emu oil so far, but it will turn up somewhere. Be well and have a great day.

Hi Kate!  I am thrilled you did something nice for yourself.  Getting a little pampered here and there is a good thing.  I hope it cheered you up.

Thanks, had a very dull day really.  This afternoon/evening I have had some stomach issues and a really annoying headache.  Sigh!  Nothing I can't deal with, just annoying.  We took the dogs for two nice walks this morning, so I feel good that I got some exercise.

Tomorrow we start back in with radiation.  I have 29 more to go!

A good friend of ours called this morning.  We moved here from Wyoming a year ago and she was devastated.  Anyway, she is finally coming to visit,  she will be here Thursday.  Her flight gets in late afternoon and she wants to take us to dinner.  So cannot wait to see here.  Nothing more healing than a visit from a great friend.  She will be here for five days!  I am so excited.

    Thanks Kate, I'll be okay!

I haven't seen my friend Marcia in 14 months.  She is a great lady and I have missed her so much.  It will be so much fun to just get out of the house and do some fun things.

Are you okay this evening Kate?  I am thinking of you.......

    Hugs,

    Janis

    Hi Janis,

I am doing well this evening. Time warner had my internet down most of the day, so now I am glad that I can access it. I am an internet junkie lol. Five rads this week, and then we get three days off. I hope our skin will be fine, and we can enjoy the holiday weekend.
