My mom has breast cancer(double mastectomy I think aprox 5 yrs ago -she is 75).  She recently had an ache in her rib area and went to the Dr who ordered a bone scan.  She had abnormal findings show up in bilateral ribs and Thoracic spine(They found a broken rib).  She is hoping the new areas might be arthritis.  She is in the process of finding a new oncologist because she didn't like her last Doctor.  She refused chemo & radiation after her double mastectomy.  When I talked with her after the bone scan she said her mind on chemo had not changed if it is cancer. Is there anyone out there who can relate to this? Who has skipt chemo?

Yes, my Mother.  She tried Xeloda and did take Femara which is not a chemo.  Xeloda produced an allergic reaction so she said no to any chemo after that.

Even though she was stage IV - she refused treatment and survived 11 years - from stage 0-1 it was 22 yrs.

One thing we always did as a family was support our Mom in her decisions, and now she's gone - I'm glad we did.

I honestly think all you can do is grant her the choice to choose her own path no matter the outcome - its her life and as much as want things to be how we think they should be - often our Mom's know better what is right for them.

I'm truly sorry about your Mom, Marcy - I know how you feel. ~Zeana

I am schedualed for  a mastectomy on Monday. I have decided to forgo the chemo and maybe the radiation. My family do not support my decision but I have made up my mind. I am diabetic, I have MS, I fear chemo will take away what little quality of life I have. I want quality not quantity. Am I being selfish or just stupid? i'm sorry for the heartache you have due to the cancer, not the lack of chemo. Burn it out and them fill your body with poison. I don't get it. Take my breast, leave me my dignity.
