Cherie, I went to my BS and went with an open mind after I did not get clear margins the 2nd time and asked her what she wanted to do and she said she wanted to go back in  and re-excise. Remember with DCIS, you have some time to decide what to do.  There is also a Dr. Lagios, that you can get a second opinion on your margins.. here  is his website http://www.breastcancerconsultdr.com/. Sandie who I met on this site had a 2nd opinion and he cleared her margins. I know I wanted to save my breast.   We are all here to support you..

Please let me know when your 2nd surgery is.. you are in my prayers.. I know you will get clear margins!!

    Everyone keep fighting!!!

    Hugs and Blessings

Terri, glad you have a plan in place for rads.  I just finished 12/31 and so far so good, I feel great and my skin is holding up well.  Sorry this thread has thread has taken on a negative tone with some of the posts; it seems some people move around from thread to thread with their own agenda, not really thinking about how their strong opinions affect others.  This site is strongly biased toward women who have had problems with surgery and treatment and I think they like to vent on this site, which is fine but, there are many women out there who like to keep a positive attitude, have few complaints and are grateful that there have been so many advancements in medicine that many of us are able to keep our breasts!  I have also lost family members to BC and other cancers (including my mom who died at 47) so I feel very passionate about this subject as well.

Good luck to Cherie, you know what they say "third time's a charm".

Lauren, one thing my BS told me is every woman is different and I agree, she has had patients that had 1cm of DCIS in 1 breast, no nodes, negative for HER2 had a BMX, because they just did not want the worry of all the mammograms. I know I wanted to save my breast and took the advise of my BS who is the "rock star" of breast cancer in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. If my BS did not think there was a chance of gettng clear margins the 3rd time she would have taken a  chance to re-excise. I support every woman on this site and their decision.  I still think your note to me gave me good luck..

To everyone on this site we support our DCIS sisters in what every decision you make, we are here to give suggestions, hugs and blessings.

Lauren you  are an angel from heaven! thank you so much for your good wishes. Now I have a question on what types of t-shirts, sports bra's lotions etc to use when I start my rads.. I welcome all suggestions and tips!

Cherie, Lauren and got clear margins we know you will too!!

    Everyone keep fighting!

    Hugs, and blessings to all!

Terri, I got some great tips on the Aug rads thread about bras.  The ones I am wearing practically everyday are Coobies, if you google it you will find their website and you may also find some promo codes if you look for that too.  It's a one size fits all and I wasn't sure it would fit me because I have been wearing a 36 or 38D, but it fits. I have also tried the Bali style 3036, it gives more support, but the elastic at the bottom starts to bother me by the middle of the day and I just want to take it off.  I really didn't want to wear sports bras and I'm glad there are other options out there without underwire. I hear the Playtex "Barely There" bras are nice too, but haven't tried them yet.  I usually go without a bra in the evening and just wear a cotton t-shirt so I can air out.

As far as lotion, all I have really been using is Aloe.  I put it on three times a day: in the morning, after my treatment and at night before I go to bed.  My RO told me that was fine if it was working for me, he also recommends Aquaphor and Cetaphil.  I haven't gotten the Cetaphil yet, but I do have Aquaphor and it is kind of greasy so I don't really use it much.  Treat your skin from the start, don't wait for it to get irritated and don't forget your armpit.  I did and it's a little discolored (at least I know the rads are working!)

Make sure anything you put on is fragrance free.  I used Aloe (with no dyes or smells or alcohol) in the beginning and then switched to XClaire.  Yes, treat yourself from day 1!  Good luck and believe it or not it goes very quickly.

M3B1G-------so sorry you have to go through this. I wish there was a different way-------sorry, gonna pray for you--------May God keep you in the hollow of his hand and hold you close

Mamamia-----thought for days about deleting what I wrote-------days--------. I reread it.  There is to much truth in it to delete. Does it scare someone. Hell it scares me. But if it allows even one person to be able to ask a question, that everyone was avoiding. OR didn't know to ask. The worst words in the world are "I wish I woulda/coulda/shoulda. Sometimes asking those questions only happens when someone challenges a thought.

The Mods Popped in with identifying what BCO has to offer in the teaching sections. That's significant. The subtle and kind message was SAS you are being too strident. My strident answer comes from of a place of fear. I fear that if someone makes a wrong choice, it could be -----a wrong choice. I just don't want anyone to have to go through a negative choice. I'm going to sign off with this and take it out of my favorites. B/C I can't deal with such a question, without saying what I really think.  Bless you all in your choices, may God be with you.
