I had an MRI and ultrasounds back during the regular find-the-lump phase of this whole thing, and a CT scan plus heart echocardiogram prior to beginning chemo.

Taylor777:  my port areas was very sensitive/hurt for the first 10 days or so, but now it's fine. But even though I had my first chemo when the port was only 1.5 days in, it really didn't hurt to have it stuck (I was definitely scared about that).  Today's prick into it was okay; where she cleaned the site ahead of time and the healing scar just hurt a tiny bit.

cupcakies: I've always been told (and read) that any and all exercise is a good thing.  I'm not back to my intense yoga flow classes or running yet at all, but I'm walking *every* day, even if it's just 1000 ft around the block, and on some days it was a few miles.  It's just a matter of being able to listen to your body.

The woman next to me in chemo two weeks ago is an aerobics instructor and told all of the nurses that she had no intentions of cancelling any of her classes throughout any of the next 12 weeks of treatments (that day was her 1st round of chemo too). The nurses just smiled politely and sincerely wished her well, but encouraged her to be flexible if she needed it. She wasn't there today for round #2; I hope she's just now on a different schedule and she's feeling alright!

Hi Aimska, yes I am triple positive.  I will start Herceptin along with Taxol after the AC over the next 12 weeks.  I'll do 12 weeks of Taxol and Herceptin (3wks x 4) and then after that I'll do another 17 weeks of Herceptin.

I did my first Chemo today.  It was so much easier than I thought it would be.  There were a couple of very nice ladies there that were really great in getting me to relax, feel comfortable and laugh.  One of the ladies had a visitor who was very funny and kept us all entertained. It was a long day, though.  Got there at 9:00 and left about 1:15.  Although there was a lady who said here's takes all day.  Now that I'm home, my head feels a little heavy.  The chemo nurse said I should start nausea meds tonight and then alternate them for the next couple of days instead of waiting for symptoms.  Glad she told me that as I would not of used them if I didn't have systems.

I notice we have a very similar diagnosis.  My tumor was 4 cm which makes me Stage 2B, Grade 3 and of course being HER2+ makes the cancer agressive.

Ps..Ellen -- I did have a chest X-ray in June a few days before my first surgery and that was all clear, so my onc said there was no need to do another one.

Thanks Dianamaps...My port is still tender but I'm glad you had no pain when they started your chemo..I was getting worried that since my port is tender that the chemo was going to hurt if my port was tender so thanks diana you made me feel better!!

Taylor....I have to be there at 9:15. I will put my daughter on the school bus and head to the city right after, it'll take me well over an hour to get there in rush hour Chicago traffic, as if the stress levels won't be high enough..... Pretty avatar picture!!! :) Your hair looks like mine.... Long and dark, I love my hair.... I hope it knows how much and fights to come back to me the same! *sigh*.

I'll do my daily self coaching exercise now, "it's only hair Jenn....it'll grow back....it's only temporary.... Things could be worse....it'll grow back better than ever....hair doesn't matter....." Still isn't working yet!!! :(

Madismommy - have you cut your hair yet?? I cut my hair about 3 weeks ago its a really short blunt. I havent had hair that short in years...I dont care that I lost a breast but I'm really sad that I will be losing my hair!! Your right its just hair and it will grow back . I cant even find a nice wig where I live..I want something that resembles my hair maybe not so long. Do you love your wigs that you got?

Lucky you that you have an early appt at least the traffic will keep your mind off your appt..lol..We went to Chicago last summer and I had the best cupcake ever from Sprinkles...mmmm  I love Chicago..its such a beautiful city!!

T... So far I like my scarves better than my wigs. I do have a nice one coming from a wig store that my insurance is paying for. It is similar to my hairstyle now.... Just shorter. I had hair 1/2 way down my back until 3 weeks ago, now it's just above my shoulders. My hubby is going to buzz it once it really starts to go, and I go for my wig pick up and final style on sept. 13th....exactly 2 weeks after chemo. I had a bilateral mastectomy and tell my family all the time I'm having a much harder time losing my hair than my breasts. I hope I get past the grief quickly once it happens. Did you try your oncologist for information on wig places? They usually have a lot of info for that stuff!!!

I wore one of my headcovers.com scarves all night tonight, it wasn't bad??? Although my real hair was sticking out the bottom.....I did order one of those halo things though, maybe that'll do the trick?

Chicago is great, especially in the summer and fall....winters, not so much!!!! :0)

Wow! I posted earlier this week and can't believe all the posts. I had my port put in yesterday and my surgeon tunneled it to my chest under my arm. It is very well hidden, but extremely sore. I had to take off work today because of it. Guess I thought it wasn't going to be as big of a deal as it was. Went to chemo class today and it really hit me. Can't believe I start chemo next week.

My heart goes out to all of you losing your hair as I know that is coming soon. It makes me feel better to know that we aren't alone.

Aimska- I had 8 eggs frozen and 9 embryos with my hubby made and frozen as well. Gives me peace of mind having them in the bank. Can't believe all the young ladies on here. Glad to know I am not alone, but what's that all about?!? It sounds like we have similar treatment. How have you been feeling after chemo?

Good morning ladies! Hope everyone is feeling well and having a good Friday.I feel pretty good today, day 14. Just a little headache, and very tired. WBC is very low. Had a bad day yesterday, my hair is starting to come out, my daughter cancelled on taking me for my port placement on Tuesday...just feeling a bit let down. Finally bought my wig though, which is okay, RED, but it was fun and a little depressing at the same time. There's a great boutique in Delmar, NY called "To Life" which caters to breast cancer patients. Wigs, prosthetic bras, etc. Very nice.

Chrys, I hope your pets both get better and come home soon. Unlike family and friends, a couple of mine are very affectionate, and are never too busy to make me feel better. I don't know what I'd do without them!

Dianamaps - I've been so worried about having my port placed on Tuesday, and then using it on Friday. You made me feel a little less anxious. I really didn't want to have one, but when I went it on Tuesday, it took them 5 sticks to get blood, so I lost the argument instantly! I get my port on Tuesday - hubby is bringing me.

vtellen - Maybe it's a Vermont thing again - I haven't had any other scans or tests either. When I've asked I've been told it's not necessary, although I'll probably have a bone scan at some point because of the osteoporosis risks. Hmm. Maybe I'll talk to my GP. He's a bit more aggressive.

Madismommy - wow, 9 hours! I'm so worried about running out of sick time, I keep pushing myself, but I'm feeling so unproductive. It probably isn't worth the effort. I've got a call in to HR to see how much time is in the donated sick bank. I've got lots of work to do today, and a big day Monday, then some admin stuff for a while.

Have a great weekend everybody. I hope Irene doesn't disrupt anyone's lives too badly!

Hello ladies!  Well, I have now been struck with the dreaded constipation and the hemmoroids.  Yuck!  I had some mild constipation with the first round but Senakot took care of it. This time, it is far worse...I wonder if it has something to do with the clinical trial drug. I also had achy muscles last night which was a new SE for me.

Will be giving my wig its public debut later today when I meet some friends for lunch. Not sure I'm ready for that!

Ashvegas, hope you feel better soon. Good for you being brave enough to go out "bald"!

Lindy, glad to hear you got your first treatment under your belt!

Chrys23, hope your pets are both home and doing okay.

Robyn- Gotta do it the natural way here in Vt, I guess. My 2nd dose is mon. am, so hopefully my blood count is back up and the hurricane doesn't mess things up!

So, on the hair front - I am now 23 days out from first T/C, and I still have a fair amount of hair. I remind myself of my ex mother in law, who always has had very thin hair that she tries to poof up on her head. I wish that i had a decent cut and not chopped it off w/ paper scissors! My hair is maybe 3" long and pokes out from scarves and hats. Makes me feel at least a littlemore like me. I am sure it will high tail it out of here after next dose, but I feel as though I have put it off at least a little while.

I have been reading on here but not contributing much lately.  Time to change that!

I had my first A/C treatment on Monday (8/22) which went well.  I was swimmy headed when I left and sleepy.  Day 2 - Got the Nuesta (sp) shot which wasn't too bad, I had diarrea, tired and some body and head aches.  Took the nausea pills and they stopped the sick feeling.  Day 3 tired and nausea which was controlled with medicine. Day 4 - Very tired.  Did manage to take a short walk.  Seems like it took a lot of effort to walk a short distance.  Day 5 - No nausea = no medication!  Yea!  Still very tired.  I also took Claratin the day before chemo and continued it 3 days after,  Don't know if that helped the bone pain from the shot or not but I didn't have bad pain at all.  I don't have an appetite and have to make myself eat - very unlike me!

So ready for all of this to be over with............

    Take care everyone!

Morning everyone -- I hope everyone is doing well and hanging in there...

My hair is just falling out all over and the sides are almost bald at the temples. Oh well....such is part of this process.  Undecided

My pets are both home -- Thanks for the kind wishes about my dear pets.

My little Chi has an abcess in anal glands and is in a lot of pain Frown   It finally popped last night, but he's so uncomfortable. I hope the meds really help soon (antibiotic and pain meds).

My cat has some type of inner ear infection thing -- his balance is off, his head is cocked to the side and he keeps falling over; but they also see a nodule on his lung.  I picked him up at 11pm last night and was hit with a $600 bill which I am contesting. I paid $200 as a courtesy, but with the sh*tty customer service I recieved yesterday, with no phone call for 10hrs is just unacceptable and I didn't authorize the chest xrays which were almost $400 in total.

Oh and my husband is so worried/anxious about the impending Hurricane, I made him take two Lorazepam last night and go to bed -- I've got too much on my plate to have him freaking out over something he can't control! Ahhh!  Kiss

Taylor - please keep us posted on your wig shopping!!!  Good luck girly!  How many days are you post treatment?

Sweetpea - wow I'm so glad you were able to freeze some embryo's!!!   that's so awesome.  When I first met with the fertility dr, he asked me if had a husband or boyfriend.. I'm like why you being so nosy?  lol.. and then he told me it's because they can freeze embryos!   so amazing!

Chemo has been ok.  the actual infusion is nothing to be too worried about.. I don't generally feel anything the day of and the day after chemo.  The 3rd, 4th, and 5th day I am a zombie.  Expect to be really thirsty and fatigued.  I have stomach issues too.. bad constipation, but last time I took a laxative which gave me diarrhea.. both are pretty awful.  By the 6th, 7th, day after I'm usually myself again.  My 3rd treatment is coming up next Thursday.. time is flying!

    Hi,

I took my first chemo a couple of weeks ago. I will have to go 5 years also on a pill after everything is finished.  I had the in sutu, but after that surgery the pathologist found a patch underneath. I had another surgery and infection, so be very careful.  So far, i have had 4 stays in the hospital due to surgery, infections and illness.  I went out without wearing a mask or anything and didnt think i dose of chemo would wipe out my immune system so quickly.  If any one else can tell me of anything else to do to protect myself i would appreciate it.  drop me a line. take care and remember you are not alone.

Hi tags....welcome to the gang!!! So sorry to hear about the infections....that had to be so discouraging for you!!!! Are you getting the neulasta shot after your infusions? That's what my onc said will help me boost my immune system. And I have a feeling I'll end up having to get a flu shot this year.

Chrys....that's crazy that they did x rays without your consent first!!! I wouldn't pay either..... I hope your husband slept last night and didn't pace the floors worrying. I'm watching CNN now and they are really making it sound like it's going to devastate everything in it's path....sometimes media gets a tad crazy..... I HOPE it's not anything like they are saying it will be. Stay safe east coasters!!!!!

Ugh Michelle....hemorrhoids for you too??? I'm not sure how I'm going to cope with all these different s/e's looming..... The UTI's and hemorrhoids and kidney infections......hang in there ladies!!!! I'm thinking of all of you everyday.....

I'm sitting here waiting for my dang neulasta shot to be delivered. I was told sometime between 10 am and 4pm....and that it can only sit on my stoop for one hour tops and than needs the fridge..... SO, I have been traveling back and forth between my work and home all day.....pain in my arse....just get here already!!!!!

Robo....so, you're slated for Thursday? I have a friend that goes to NW for her chemo too, I'm not sure what days she goes.....she's coming up on # 4. I think I'll hit the Trader Joes tonight....we have one about 5 minutes from my house!!!! YAY!

Hope all of you are having a s/e free day!!!!!! Please all stay safe if Irene is headed your way!!! I'm watching CNN and they are issuing a mandatory evacuation of NYC's low lying burroughs.... Oh my goodness!!!!

Madismommy -- thanks!  Yes, the storm is supposedly going to be pretty bad; I also hope it won't be as bad as they say.  Lots of gas stations are running out of fuel in some spots and the stores are madhouses!  However, I guess it's better to be safe than sorry in any event.  I have so many trees surrounding my home; that worries me the most and with 2 infirmed animals, I hope they are wrong about this one!

Ps...I talked to the manager of the Vet's office; an hour-long conversation this morning of what transpired yesterday.  Even he was appalled and I got the $400 balance taken off! I'm a good negotiator Wink

WOW girls! I can't keep up with all posts coming:)

Today is day 3 for me and I'm still very nauseous. It hit me 4 hours after tx and was pretty bad... At least i'm not throwing up any more (and really happy for that). Just a silly question  - what do you girls eat when you don't feel good? I'm not able to put anything in me and don't think it's a good thing. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

JMULL - the burning nose was from the C component, I was told it's pretty common.

Zanoza, I'm sorry you're so nauseous. I eat Dole fruit pops, Jello fruit cups, crackers, and SIP lots and lots of fluids, gatorade, cranberry juice, water, ginger ale. My daughter makes me tea - with ginger and/or chamomille that helps sometimes too. Do you have some compazine? Is it not working?

Zanoza, I would first put an ativan under my tongue, works faster & you don't need a lot of liquid to wash it down. I would also be using zofran. After those guys kick in you should be able to eat more. I am not sure what you are on, but I think having those 2 drugs on board really helps. At my worst I couldn't make dinner, but I was always able to eat it. What are you using for nausea?

Zanoza -- do you have any anti-nausea meds? Zofran or Ativan (which is Lorazepam)?

The ladies have good suggestions above. You can also try Triple Ginger Thins from Trader Joes (if you have one near you), sip Organic Peppermint Tea, 100% fruit ice pops, Gingerale, etc.

I didn't have any major nausea issues, but I do hope you feel better.....Take Care!

I had my first navelbine treatment yesterday. Today I was tired and last night I have evil burning in my stomach. I had some bad nausea today and the compazine didn't help much. I may have to try zofran the next time. Over all this is nothing compared to the ACT!!!

zanoza - I have been pretty much living on white rice and bread products:  crackers, soft pretzels, etc.  I tried some ginger ale earlier and that helped a little bit but I find that most beverages just taste too sweet.  I have also been taking my nausea meds (compazine during the day and lorazpam at night) regularly whether I feel nauseous or not.  This afternoon I diluted lemonade with extra water and that helped as well.  Hope you find something that works for you!

I am still battling a vicous headache and now the achy bones from the neulast shot.  This heating pad is coming in handy!

Thoughts and prayers out to the east coast in bracing for Irene!

Chrys, how is your hair doing? mine is coming out in handfuls.  I'm trying to decide whether to shave it or not.  It's pretty sore too, just not sure what to do.

Still to take my mind off it and drop hair elsewhere I am off to the movies with my 3 DD's to see The Help

Hope everyone is keeping safe on the East Coast, and that you all have a good evening/night.

Is everyone sleeping ok?  I can get to sleep but I can't stay asleep and once it hits about 3 am forget it! I am 2 weeks past tx too, next one on Wednesday.

I saw "The Help" the other day with my mom; I hope you enjoy it!

I'm sleeping fine (thank Goodness)!  Wednesday will be here quick -- blech!
