Word Reversal

DIRECTIONS FOR MAKING A PALINDROME
First you start with a random word, like PLATE.
Then you type it with its reverse after it, like this:
PLATE ETALP or PLATE TALPNote that the last letter of your word (in this case an "E") can either appear once or twice. Both ways will read the same forwards or backwards.
You can also try putting the reverse of the word before it, rather than after it, like this:
ETALP PLATE or ETAL PLATELook at what you have created. One of the results might start looking like a phrase.
ETAL PLATE makes me think of METAL PLATE
But when you add an M at the beginning to make METAL, you also have to add one to the end, to keep the symmetry. That gives you:
METAL PLATE M
Now just keep building onto both sides until you have something that makes a phrase.
"A METAL PLATE, MA!" <-- Voila, a palindrome!
-
Additional tips:
Avoid consonant combinations that don't go well in reverse, like CH, TH, CK, etc.
In my experience, words that start with C, H, J, and V can be hard to work with, since few words end with those letters.
-
"Wedded light, I, with gilded dew."
For that one I started with LIGHT ___ THGIL , then I added the palindromic middle: I WI
___LIGHT I WITH GIL ___ then I worked my way outward.
That's a third way of making these: Put additional stuff in between the word and its reverse.
