My right shoulder hurts, I would rather just use the left one.
-
Actually E confessed. She said she put her finger in a socket which caused the commotion. She glows!
-
LOL Blue!
-
Glad to hear ALL our BCO sisters are well. Laura, my life jacket is ready!
-
Well, I was visiting my dad in DC and the couch started shaking and pictures were falling off the walls...he continued to sit on the couch and drink his coffee saying "Looks like an earthquake."
-
Ang, I have experienced earthquakes before in other parts of the world. Not many, but a few not too bad ones. What amazed me about this one is that the shaking didn't seem to come from underground, and it didn't feel (to me, at least) like a rumble. It was more of a rattle, which is what your description reminds me of. I was in a flimsy building when it happened, but at first I thought it was workmen on the roof or something. I am sure a seismologist could explain.
-
Athena .. this didn't feel like a rolling earthquake like the kind we get in California. It was more of a shaker. Just kind've shook things up a bit. It did unnerve my dogs though!
At first I thought it was a big truck going down the road .. it felt like a rumble kind of thing.
Ang .. your dad is so calm!
Has anyone heard from Enjoyful or Libby? Enjoyful had a bone scan this afternoon and Libby should be just about done with her surgery by now.
hugs,
Bren

Athena
no to "just" cuz tho it's not listed as a "member" it's still "in use" - per Mods. Don't get it - but there we are - so, I'm happy with it as it is - many wiggle a few letters ;-))) but can't be "just".
Hope HL is doing well -
RIVER_RAT - thank you for that warning about hot water heaters - everyone I know in DC, Bethesda, uses gas to heat..
Speaking of heat, which we'll need soon in MA - not one of the Oil Delivery Folks, for the first time in probably forever, are offering any kind of a "pre-paid" lock in price - strange world..
-
Ang7 ... your Dad must be from a part of the country that is used to earthquakes? We have them so seldom in the midwest we mostly just run around saying 'what was that' - 'did you feel that'. Honestly, I didn't think the east coast ever had them.
I grew up by an Air Force base and the first time I felt an earthquake I thought it was a sonic boom.
Can't swim and don't want to get eaten by sharks so I'll just have to move further to the left and keep my feet on solid ground.
I can believe it was our own E Sparkplug trying out her superpowers
Libby is going to have an excellent 'surgery story' ... but will have to admit she slept through the whole thing. I'm thinking her surgery should be done before too much longer. Sending you (((hugs))) if you read here later Libby.
ETA - Sunflowers ... prices are down right now and they don't think they will stay down??

WR, we've had 2 or 3 teensy "earthquakes" in New York that I can recall in the last 30 years -- 1.8 or something, somewhere slightly north and west of the city, that caused a little "stumbling" feeling.
I read that the reason this one was felt so far away (Toronto!) was that it was incredibly shallow -- only 1 kilometer deep -- and 5.8 isn't nothing in terms of force, so since it didn't expend much energy in a vertical direction, it rattled the ground surface horizontally for a long, long way. Maybe that's why it felt more "rattle-y" than "rolling"? A friend in Baltimore had a whole lot of stuff fall off shelves on her wall -- weird, huh?
ETA: I guess those NY earthquakes weren't quite as teensy as I thought -- 3.9 last year and 4.7 in 1992 off coast of Long Island -- and EAST, not WEST! But today's rattled buildings in the city more than those did.
-
The funny thing is my dad is from Pennsylvania!
He has lived many different places throughout his life...
My daughter said all 3 dogs were totally going bananas about 10 minutes before it happened.
-
They felt it in Oakville, Ontario (outside TO), also in Sudbury (northern Ontario) and in Fredericton NewBrunswick-pretty widespread but shallow - lucky for everyone.
HL you missed it all - hope you had a good restful sleep.
E wish you good luck with your bone scan.
Sandy

I was sitting in a waiting room on the south shore of lake Ontario, and felt quivering for about 5-6 seconds. I honestly thought it was me having some kind of a weird semi-seizure! Then found out about the earthquake on the radio on the drive home. Whew! Speaking of past quakes in these parts -- in about 1990 there was one in the Laurentians in Quebec, and I felt it in Toronto. Also slept through a 6.0 aftershock a few days after the big quake in Northridge, CA in the early 90's. Too much libation the night before maybe?
Anyhow, we've heard that HL's surgeons didn't lose their footings today, and her surgery should be over very soon. Whew again!
-
Surely she is in the recovery room by now?
-
Hillck, In real life, I don't know. It would be interesting to find out. I would imagine that they may react like other animals and sense that something is off before the event is felt by humans. I could imagine them feeling restless and curling their tails. They are mostly plains dwellers, though, so I don't know that they experience quakes very often - at least in their shrunken habitat of today.

-
We just had an aftershock about 20 minutes ago! I was sure one was coming .. just didn't know when.
Still looking for news from Enjoyful and Libby.
hugs,
Bren -
Huh Bren? I didn't feel it. You are much closer to the epicenter.
HL, if by chance you are reading this (((((congrats))))) - fine day to get surgery, eh? Lol!
-
Wow, here I am traveling and all h&ll breaks loose. And HL slept through it all. E, we need an update!!
I made it and had the cabbie stop for a six pack of Corona (NFL). PM me for the meaning of that or extrapolate it. It is hot as Hades here in OK. Tomorrow begins my 140 hour torture. Arghh.
{{{HUGS}}} for Happy Libby when she is well enough to read this!
-
((( Barbara ))) So sorry you are in the land of hotter than hell! Corona sounds good .. hold the lime. hahaha!
hugs buddy,
Bren -
Thanks Bren. Missing DH. I know you know.
Blue great pic of you and Bren.
-
Barbara, tracking info says your other bottles were delivered in FL this afternoon! So they should be waiting for you when you finish your 140 hours of torture So sorry you had to make this trip.
Word from E is that surgery continues -- all is going well, but slowly (maybe they started late?).
Hugs to HappyLibby and DH -- and (((((Enjoyful)))))
and (((((((((everyone))))))))
-
Just saw a note from Enjoyful on FB ... it looks like maybe another couple of hours for Libby.
Ann .. I sure hope they started late, cause this is a very long day for her and DH.
Enjoyful .. thinking of you today .. thanks for being there for Libby and DH. When will you get the results from your bone scan?
hugs,
Bren

Still in surgery? hhmmnn...wonder if the earthquake interrupted things? Must have been terrifying for the docs -
Just found out a friend lives very near "epicenter" - waiting to her from her. Friends in DC are all checking their hot water heaters - thanks to River_Rat! Some broken dishes, pictures off walls, but nothing serious.
Seems the Washington Monument, inspected by helicopter, has damage on top - also the top of a steeple on the National Cathedral came down. Friend in Dc said it felt like a HUGE train running under their building - then they realized there WAS no train/metro under building.
Athena, hope you have a long night's sleep. Just about to finish Emperor of All Maladies.
-
Just got home after a long day. It has been an even longer day for Libby. I hope she had sweet dreams.
No jokes here about the earthquake, I am grateful that everyone is ok.
I may have big news tomorow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am excited!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is something I said I'd never do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Enough Punctuation???????????????????????
-
OMG Rosemary! Don't tell me you've really decided to take up skydiving?
-
Naw, she auditioning for So you think you can dance. I'm her coach.
-
rosemary-------SKYDIVING!!!!!! Hugs and Safe Hugs for everyone. Im native Californian and I dont ever wish anyone an earthquake. I feel bad you all had so short of a time at NOTL. I can imagine how tired you all must have been because I got tired just enjoying from here.
-
Just a brief update before I crash for the night -
At 8 we learned that HL still had 3 - 3.5 hours to go. All is going well, no problems are causing the delay. The plastic surgeon did say that his part would take about 12 hours. Should be soon!
I'll pass along more info as I get it.
Good night, all!
-
Thanks, ((((((((Enjoyful))))))) ! Sleep tight!
-
E -- You are such a wonderful, loving friend. Thanks so much for keeping us informed about HL's surgery. You must be so tired after a very long day. Have a good night's sleep, sweetie!
