The youngest just left for her first year of college and I am so sad! My oldest will turn 30 soon so I have had kids in the house for 30 years. How soon will I get over this sadness and sense of loss? What can I do to speed the process up. The "baby" was 9 when I was diagnosed and now she is off at college. Wow!

We are empty nesters and enjoy seeing our four children live their lives as adults.  Since your youngest just left for college, you can look forward to those visits home, summer vacations, etc.  And sometimes after they leave, they come back!  Depending on job situations or whatever life brings, the nest might not be empty for long!  So try to enjoy this transition, do some fun things with your hubby or friends, and rejoice in the fact that you have raised children who are mature and independent!

Yeah, I know, easier said than done!

Barb-My DH and I are empty nesters also.  We have 4 children, they range from 21 through 28. Our house was the house in the neighborhood that always had tons of kids around. Sometimes I would think no one's parents ever cooked dinner, because we had so many at our table.  Enjoyed those days and sometimes miss them. But, I must say, I am REALLY enjoying having our house to ourselves.  It took me about 2 weeks to get used to it, now, I LOVE IT. Give it some time, you will enjoy getting your life back, let's face it, we basically gave up our lives for our kids.

Barb - I am doing pretty well under the circumstances.  I have finished 5 of 8 chemos and I am still standing!  I am grateful that I did have those 4 kids (30 - 42) who are paying lots of attention to me these days Wink  I still have a long road with a tricky radiation protocol as I already had Mammosite last year, not sure how that's going to work out.  I guess they can't radiate the same area twice, so they'll have to figure out how to radiate my other areas and skip the breast.  And then there will be the rest of reconstruction.

    But I am OK!!!

    Thanks for asking,

    Michelle
