Thanks ladies for praying for my son. The meeting was ok. He doesn't share a lot so I'm not exactly sure how things went. He's my prodical son...so keep praying for him. I could use your prayers as well. I have constant mouth sores, canker sores ( a lot of them) which makes it hard to eat. I've lost 25 pounds this last year...not trying. I think the root cause is stress...so cast your burdens on the Lord..I know and do, but keep taking them back
Life is so stressful! -
Hi ladies need prayer for money maters My husband is the only one working right now applied for a job and no call back. I know God will supply my needs

hey ladies; i saw an interesting discussion on aetheism yesterday on Piers Morgan. he was interviewing Michael Moore; who's "contrary" at best...
i was very evangelical for many years, in a well known, large church. i've mellowed some since then..
one of my best friends is an unbeliever; and as Barbe has said; her moral compass is better than some here that call themselves christisns.
when i divorced, it was very difficult; i was black balled from the very stricy church i belonged to at the time. i dug my heels ( and heart ) in, read a lot of the Word; and came to the conclusion that those who are christians... ( who are called by His name is what THATs suppossed to mean)
aren;t always as loving as the Word tells uus to be.. i got involved in a church the last few years that preaches "the gospel of grace" as its' knoown, and have found real peace there.. the preacher always reminds us that it was ALL finished at the cross. paid in FULL; anything we do further, is because we experience the grace that has been bestowed on us freely. and we need to do the same to others..
in so. Fla we have rabid Baptists who come to the house.. i HATE it when they question me about "am i sure" but feel much like Joni; if i can't clearly state my beliefs, how strong ARE they>> i think im much more circumspect than others, bc of my past. but my beliefs are stronger than they've ever been. im now practicing something i heard from Joyce Meyers on tv... pray it, say it, act it... it works well for me. i don't ever talk politics, or religion with many people. i believe the verse that says without a word..even IF it was about husbands.. i believe our actions towards people should give them the interest.. ive had many ple ASK me what is my faith; and i think thats' when they responded to something ive said, or the way i handle things...
its not everytime, but all we can do is to pray our actions speak loudly.. i know it must be difficult for you, meece. a know it all is a PIA; for sure...
Juanita; good to see you. will be praying for you and your DH; KC, you as well.. evebarry: i so can relate !!! i also have a prodigal son; and i will be praying for yours. they're hard, emotionallly, to handle..... good to see you all here. hope Matts' gonna get the health care he needs, meece. still praying......3jays

3jaymom...good discussion. John 17:3, I believe states this is eternal life to know Thee. This sums it up well for me in that being a Christian is about knowing God. It's not about what Church you attend.rather a personal relationship with God. This is why David in Psalms, although he blew it big time was said to be a man after God's heart. He knew His God. You can feel his heart beat for God in the Psalms. Same for Moses who knew the ways of God, like one who knows a best friend or Abraham, who walked closely with God. Yet...there are a few weird Churches out there that distort God's grace (make grace something they earn believe it or not). God's pure grace is a free gift...and if you know God you can't help but love HIm.
Thanks for praying for my son. He's learning some hard lessons. He does have a tender heart, and knows the Lord. My daughter has other struggles, but all in all loves Jesus. Teaching your kids to fly or watching them try on their own is the hardest part about being a mom or parent. In their twenties you can't watch over them as you did when they were small. You see them heading toward a brick wall and there is nothing you can do but pray.
I'm up early today to do a yardsale that I don't want to do. Putting it together is so much work, but need to do it once a year to get rid of stuff. Appreciate all of you and pray you have a good day. Blessings Always...E

Sometimes when people are nervous to say the word God, I will use the term Universe. As in, the Universe is listening, what is it you need? That seems to make it easier. I was distressed to learn my daughter doesn't believe in "God", yet when she was being rushed in for her emergency C-section, she told me she was asking Pops to help her. I told her whoever she calls Him is okay. She is 'talking' to her deceased grandfather. She grew up with God in the home so I hope this is just a short aberration....
-
No, Barbe he isn't really new. He's been there 3 weeks longer than I have, but he has been known to announce that fact to customers for no apparent reason. I will get through this.
Blessings to each of you who are facing tough times. I am so grateful for each and every one of you!
-
Barbe so sorry your daughter is not yet where you aimed her. Time will tell.
I find it interesting that people will talk to the deceased and believe that they are someplace where they can help them, and yet they cannot bring themselves to believe in our Living God whose wonders are evident daily.
-
That's what I'm figuring Meece, if she believes Pops is somewhere she can talk to him, then she must believe in Heaven.
-
This coworker I have been discussing believes in Bigfoot, but not God. Explain that! His excuse for not believing in God is that he won't believe in what he can't see....And you've seen bigfoot?
-
Great Discussion Ladies! Praying for you all!
Evebarry, your son; Lynniea for a job; and Meece's Matt and fellow worker.
3jays ~ Did you try that church?
Barbe ~ I am sure it is. God has your daughter in his hand, she may have let go of his at the moment but He is still there waiting for her to run back. It reminds me of when I took my boys to disneyland years ago when they were three and four. Do you remember those horrible leashes that wrapped around the child's wrist and the parent's wrist? I had bought a couple of those because my boys would not go in a stroller and I was so afraid of losing them. Anyhow with that they had their freedom as long as they wanted and then could make their way back to me when they were ready. Sorry to ramble...
Hugs to all
-
Meece ~ LOL! He's young and really doesn't know what he believes. Do you think he is doing this for shock value?
-
kcl, that's a perfect analogy!!! Thanks!
-
The only time I've mentioned God at work was just before my double mast. A manager from another department came to me and said that she and the other managers were blown away by how composed I was, considering what I was about to do and everything I was going through. I told her I had a very strong God holding me up. She put her hand over her mouth as tears came to her eyes and she turned and left.
-
barbe, perhaps it was the right time, place and way to witness.
-
It was the PERFECT time!! I showed grace during my diagnosis and surgery. It was easy because Jesus held me through the whole way!!
-
Yes Barb, he does that.
-
kc 165, no, i've not gotten to the church yet. my hyothyroid problems are still keeping me homebound. i did talk to a friend that goes; gotta get times. the sat. eve service is 2 hrs...not something i can do right now...
Eve Barry: loved your response. thats why im liking this preacher so well. he preaches every sermon about not having to earn grace, it was given all ready. now, we act out ouf gratitude and love for the gift we already have.. the slight emphasis change was quite healing to me. im sure it wasn't so different for some of you. i came from a church who was big on repentance, and "earning" favor; while this preacher teachers " greatly favored" as work finished on the cross...
i just got a call from my new dr. this med is also reacting on me. we're in a conondrum as to what med won't make me allergic. please pray we find one. for now, we're using this one, and HOPING it doesn't cause more problems.. not exactly what i'd like long term. God is able, i just keep telling myself that.......3jays

Hi ladies: The last few pages of this thread are very interesting, that is, the grace, faith, works, etc. I'm a lurker, but have been on a bit more lately as I was needing advice.
Meece: That's funny about your coworker cuz my sister is the same. When I have shared with her about my relationship with God, she says she needs something tangible. She is an avid bigfoot hunter too! You may very well work with my sister! LOL!
Jean

Padiddle-love your screen name! Lurk all you like!!

3jaysmom, grace & works topic is often misunderstood. Actually, I believe in a balance... (edit) Grace does not give us an excuse to do whatever we want, rather it is God's mercy to love us inspite of our sins. Because we believe, works follow...well said in James, if we have faith our life will show it.
In regard to repentance...at times when we're out of line, we do need to repent. Repent merely means to change your mind about what you're doing...or to turn around. What's nice is God, our heavenly parent, loves us in the middle of our failures, or when we blow it big time.. This is grace

There are no unbelievers in foxholes...(old saying).
-
I find it hard to believe that there are unbelievers in breast cancer 'world'.
-
Barbe, on bco there is an atheist thread. God doesn't force people to have a relationship with Him. Yet, my opinion, many in their last hour may consider knocking at God's door.
-
I know about the atheists thread and I try to ignore it. I don't want to see who's on it!!!
-
3Jays ~ What a sweet and strong person you are! So sorry the hypothyroid problems are keeping you from church. I totally understand that the 2 hr service would be an issue. My sister is a thyroid cancer survivor and she has to have a scan of sorts taken in a couple of weeks. She is on an iodide free diet at the moment and is off her synthroid. It makes her very fatigued. Is that what hypothyroid problems do? I will pray that the dr can find a treatment that will help you and that you will not be allergic to it!
Joni ~ How are you doing? and how is little Faith doing?
Have a wonderful weekend everyone!
-
evebarry: I like what you wrote about grace and works as I think there is more to it than merely "believing." I know we cannot please God with our good works and that salvation is a gift. Anyway, I agree grace and works are misunderstood. There's a saying around here that it is not religion but a relationship. Jean

Doing well here other than hating the heat!
Yesterday on Air1 radio the new DJ was having a conversation with a young man who was calling about how to talk to a friend who professed to be an atheist. The DJ said an interesting thing about watching the behavior of the "atheist". His opinion (the DJ) was that if the friend was a kind, loving person who obeys societal mores & laws, that deep down somewhere within there must be some basis of believing in God. There was much more to it than that, but I found it thought provoking.
-
Padiddle, don't you mean we CAN please God with our works??
Elph, it is thought provoking. I think when someone can have an intelligent conversation about God, whether they 'believe' or not, there must be a thread of 'knowing' in there somewhere.
-
3jays, I'm hypothyroid. I know for some it it bothers them more than others. Did you have your thyroid removed? What are your symptoms? Check out the alternative, holistic threads on thyroid, iodine cancer link. There's a lot of good info on there that might help you. If you can't go to Church log onto Love Worth Finding, Adrian Rogers. He one of the best Bible Teachers I've ever listen to. His sermons are rich, encouraging and exhorting. He makes you think.
Barbe...I did look at the atheist thread ...Interesting...I never posted there or would. There is one person from bco who privately asked me not to pray for her. The idea of God makes some people nervous. God made me nervous before I realized he was on my side, and came that we might have life more abundantly ... John 10:10
