August 2011 rads

#9 for me today. Whoo hooo!!! Then the weekend where we can all relax and let our bodies rest from this for a couple days. Rads are doable but it does take a lot out of you.
Jane hopefully we can sleep a little.
bb I am so sorry to hear about your sis. Praying for B9 results. I know how hard it must be for you. My sis has BC as well. It is evil.
Merilee Thank you for the images once again. I too try and remember them everyday and it does help me more then you know.
Hello everyone new. You have come to the right place. I don't know what I would do w/o the support and encouragement of everyone here.
-
bb226--you are almost through! We are praying that your sister's report is B9! Continue to get the rest you so deserve.
Today was #12 of 30, and I actually got a good night's sleep last night. And I have a bit of a tan. Keeping those creams patted on!
Merilee, I keep thinking of the "healing light" through all this.

Going for #17 today. 1/2 done! Woot Woot! No change in skin yet ...
-
One week down, only five to go! No skin side effects so far, but I felt nauseous yesterday afternoon, and again today so I'm wondering if that's due to the rads. It's not supposed to be an issue with breast radiation, and I'm hoping it's just a coincidence.
Enjoy your weekend, ladies -- we're making progress!
-
Ladies have a great restful weekend. Take a day or 2 off from cancer.
Merilee where are you finding the pictures? I would have thought that you have exhausted your supply. Go girl!!!
20 down and next week is my last week provided the machine doesn't break down. (Don't laugh, you all know what I mean.) I was beet red after treatment today. But now 7 hours later, I am a pleasant pink again. Yesterday my RO told me that she promised me red by the end of treatment. Saw a different MO today and (finally) liked him. (He is my 3rd MO I have seen.) Plan is to start tamoxifen in 3 weeks and to think about genetic testing.
Chime in if you start next week!
-
I had xrays today and was supposed to start Mon, but They have to do more xrays for Mon (adding more mapping or something), so now start tues...thinking about the posts about the music I went in today and AAARRGGH! Country music is playing....it is the only station which will come in there! (Sry to those of you who like country, but I just don't!). I told them they also need to purchase some pink striped robes instead of the blue bc I think I looked like a grandpa in my blue striped robe (when you factor in my brush cut hair style and flat chest!)
-
I go on .Wednesday for my simulation process. I am about 1 month out of surgery. I will properly start next week some time for radiation. I am praying all goes well. I heard it is not as bad as chemo and I am done with that. Thanks for letting join this group and hope to learn more about this as I start.
-
Lynniea
So far this is a walk in the park compared to Chemo....At least mine
-
Enjoy the week end break
-
Hey I also agree with Merilee. Rads definitely is doable and not as bad as I thought. I am almost done and have little side effects that are very managable. The worst part of the whole process was waiting to start the radiation! The stress during that time was unbearable.
Love the dog pic! I would love to put that ice on my chest and... It is nice to dream.
-
Welcome all newbies! I'm just about 1/2 way done and no SE for me yet at all! This is a breeze compared to chemo! Good luck
-
Thanks ladies need the encouragement to get started. It was just like starting the whole process the worst is the waiting. When do they tattoo you for that?
-
Lyn no tattoos for me - sharpie marks ha ha
-
Do all places do it different? If they marker's does it come off.
-
Lyn they cover the marks with little stickers. Ive heard it done both ways. I would insist on no tattoos if u don't want them!
-
They gave me a choice on tattoos. I did them because then I don't have to worry about the sharpie marks coming off. When they took the tape off, I had skin irritations, so I'm glad I got the tats. They are so very small.
yes, this is much easier than chemo, and my chemo wasn't that bad. Good idea about the pink striped robes!
Jane
-
hi everyone.i start next week. already have my marks and wish i had the tats since i am worried about them coming off!hoping this will be a breeze and go by really quickly!!i have 31 treatments, just ready to get started!
-
Welcome Lynniea. My RO would not treat me unless I consented to the tattoos but she said I could laser them off after treatment. They are really so small that my dermatologist could only find 2-3 of the 5 after I told him where they were. Because I am having my treatment in the prone position, mine are on my back. I am extremely glad my RO only does rads in the prone position.
Welcome Jodie. If the marks come off, they will re-mark you. I am sure they did photos of the treatment fields for reference.
MamaV - You lucky dog...no SE's yet. Hope it continues. You know a small number of people are blest with absolutely no SE what so ever during rads.
-
Hi Jodie and lynniea . . . I will be starting next week also. Went for mapping this past Monday and got tattoos. I have to go on Monday for 2nd simulation, Tuesday for Xrays, Wednesday far something else, then start 1 of 30 on Thursday. Found the deodorant that they recommended to me . . . I forget the name but I opened it up and it looks very waxy. . . Sure didn't look like my Secret powder fresh! LOL. Can somebody tell me if it works? Thats all I would need . . .
Are you nervous?
Merilee . . . Love your pictures!
Sue -
They let you use deodorant cant use any on the arm I had surgery. Mine was under the arm more still sore.
-
Woke up to a very itchy chest this morning
-
Shayes37, if you are talking about the deoderant "Tom's of Maine" then I can tell you it doesn't work very well. It is only a deoderant and not an antipersperant too, so it won't prevent any sweating. I got the apricot scented one, which isn't bad, and I keep one in my purse so I can re-apply when needed. Its do-able and is better than nothing, but I can't wait until I can use my "Degree" again!
I can also tell you that my experience with rads so far has been pretty good. This web site (not this particular thread) seems to be biased toward women who have a lot of problems with surgery and treatment, so just know that the majority of people can handle this with no problem and have few SE. The worst part is going everyday, but the actual treatment is over pretty quickly. My hospital is on the way home and I go right after work, so it's not too inconvenient, just like running and errand after work. If I didn't work and this was the only thing I had to do everyday I would probably feel differently about going. Good luck to you!

Merilee the anti itch creme they gave me works well. Tomorrow ask for a suggestion. I think the itching is the most annoying SE. Again with the creme, it is managable. They also added aquaphor before bedtime to help with the itching at night. The last few nights I also take naproxen (OTC recommandation from my RO). It also seems to calm the itching at night plus the pains it I lay unintentional on my affective site. I notice that my hand falls asleep if I roll on that side. These things work for me.
Sue-Toms works for a few hours at a time. At the beginning I would apply it 2-3 times a day. I also keep a bottle in my purse. On Saturdays I use Secret and wash it off on Sunday and go back to Toms. I think the biggest thing I am looking forward to after my last treatment is going back to my Secret. By the way, my axillary area is not in my treatment field.
Hey I know I have not said this before...it is a highlight of my day checking this thread. This group is so supportive. I don't know what I would have done without you guys. Thank-you for all your support and suggestions!
-
BB - I don't expect to have no SEs, but am just glad they are holding off as long as possible
I apply Fruit of the Earth aloe 4-5 times/day. Every time I have a little itch, I think oh boy, here we go ... but nothing bothersome yet. Maybe my olive Italian skin is helping me out???? After the hell I went through for 6 1/2 months of chemo, I'm glad to have this break.
MamaMia - I go on my way home from work too - just a quick 15 minute stop for me. Not too bad. It's going by quickly ... let's hope it continues that way - still have 19 to go.
-
I'm not starting rads until 6 September, but fully depend on this forum for support and ideas. There is a Sept 2011 Rads page started, and I recommended they stop by here. I'll be here, too!
-
Thanks BB Funny I have stumbled upon the almost exact remedies that you are using. I also found that Benadryl gel on top of all the creams keeps things kind of sealed on there. Looks bad but for at home what the heck. Tomorrow will be #19 but the rest of the remaining 11 will happen in the next two weeks with doubling up on the last week when I will get 2 regular and 2 boosts on that Monday and Tuesday 8 hours apart. This way I don't have to prolong because of the 2 days the machine went out. Can't wait to be done. I am planning a trip to see my daughter a week later as a reward and celebration. She is in Gatlinburg.
-
Hi everyone. Have been absent for a few days. I am tattooed (just dots, though I asked for skulls) but have not started treatment yet due to mastitis. Trying again on Tuesday, but redness is still present and I am worried about starting treatment with skin already inflamed. Very frustrated, and eager to be on the journey.
RO suggested that I stock up on calendula for rad irritation. Said her patients have had good results.
bb- Thank you so much for your response. I will try the google route, and talk to my doc about the technicalities of rads. I hope your sis has good news by now.
-
SAB- I asked for lotus flowers, the doc said " I'm also an artist, I could actually do that" as the tech was sneaking in the first tat. I jumped a mile and we all laughed out loud. I am sure with how I reacted to just one dot, my lotus would quickly turn into a cactus or something LOL
-
I did briefly have a thought of having a design shaved into the back of my new hair fluff.
I told my best friend I wanted "F Cancer" but she said I would regret it. She offered a peace sign as being more fitting to my nature. Then we had a laugh thinking of how it would look growing out. A Mohawk and a Mullet all at once...Pass
-
When do you get the tattoo done. I want to start and get it over with it is not far from home either it is in the same place as all my doctors.
