I went off track on Saturday night....and am still derailed ! AARGGH !
Just had slice of choc silk pie...only good news is now I feel kind of nauseous from it and think I won't be having any sugar cravings for awhile.
-
Cute Pic Michelle! Nice to see a face
I think the thing that saves me is sugar free popsicles. 15 calories a pop and they satisfy the sweet craving.
-
Thanks, Lilah!!!
-
I am reading through all the threads and getting tips, recipes, website etc... It is definitely time to make DRASTIC changes in my life... I believe cutting fat and calories, is harder than cutting sugar... SUGAR is in everything...
Thanks everyone for your input...
-
sohardbnme - the good news is that sugar is not in meats, cheese, most veggies and nuts. The natural sugars in most fruit, especially berries, apples, citrus, and kiwi (these are just a few examples) are not bad for you unless you really over-indulge.
Just try to stay away from packaged/processed food as much as possible and you'll be cutting out hundreds of grams of sugar a week.
Good luck, take it one day at a time, and come back for help!

Have I mentioned I have now lost 16 pounds?
Jancie -- where are you? How are you doing? You're my losing weight buddy
-
Lilah - I just stumbled on this thread. I have been swamped the past week getting Jazzy ready for her horse show. I actually rode her for the first time at a show and yes....we sucked....but bottom line I did it and I STAYED ON HER! 4 days before the show I got dumped AGAIN. I swear she is such a brat!
In any case I am so dedicated. I went from 149.5 lbs down to 133 lbs. (you do the math
) I still have 10 more pounds to lose and those are going to be the hardest. I hate math - I just know that I need to get down to 123 lbs before I am happy because that means I can get into a size 4. Right now I am a size 8 but depending on the fit those can be tight.
I don't crave sugar anymore. If DH and I go out it is usually 3x per month and now I will share a dessert with him only if he orders something. Tonight I am going to do that 6 mile hike up the canyons. The last two weeks I couldn't get anyone to go with me and I will not do it alone.
-
Now if only I could get rid of the hot flashes I would be so darn happy!!!!
I did make an appointment with a PS for next week for a consultation. I want to get my breasts lifted because one is lower than the other due to radiation and since I lost all of this weight they are hanging really bad. Not sure how the insurance will pay on it since I only had a lumpectomy but figure I could complain of heat rashes under the breast because that area gets no air???? Do you think that will fly?
-
WHOA - stop the train! I just weighed myself and I am at 131 lbs!
-
Woohoo Jancie!
-
WTG Jancie! Well I WAS gonna say you and I are about even: me at -16 and you at -16.5... I did the math
But with those 2 pounds you're down 18.5 pounds! WOW! I still want to lose 10 pounds (or more) too.
-
I will be getting out my bikini and hanging at the pool at the Las Vegas TaTa Sisterhood reunion in October!
-
WTG LILAH!!! You and I are going to hang out with the cabana boys this year!
-
Good job on the weight loss, ladies. That's impressive !
-
I'm a lurker on this thread but I should really post.
Jancie- first of all..congrats on the weight loss! I wanted to comment on PS. I had a lumpectomy as well and my BS said that I could have augmentation later on to even things out. She said insurance would pay for it. Even if I decided to do it years later...Hopefully that is the case with you too! I haven't decided yet. I'm still going through rads so I'm not sure how it's going to end up. My Lumpectomy side was slightly smaller than the other breast but since going through rads it has filled out. Now the only difference is one of my nipples is slightly lower than the other one. I wouldn't mind having that evened out one day..but we'll see.
During chemo I lost 15 pounds but I've quickly put it all back on. =( I'd love to lose at least 18-20 pounds. That would put me at 120 and I'm only 5'2" so I think that would be reasonable. I know sugar is a huge problem for me! Also, I tend to overeat. I blame it on years of running and having to eat a lot to refuel. It's hard to retrain your brain that you don't need as much. So for the past week I've been trying to eat less sugar. I had a few chocolate chips in my oatmeal last night. =( Why does sugar taste so good?
I'm encouraged by your all's progress though and I'm commiting here and now to do better as well!
-
Welcome Melanie_Ann! Lots of help here!
Michelle
-
Hi Melanie_Ann - I know, why does all the stuff that's bad for us taste so good? And it's addicting, too ! It's still taking me awhile to get back on track since veering off the straight and narrow last Saturday night...I'm having to take it day by day. I'm trying get a handle on sugar for my moods primarily, although health reasons are definitely important, too. I don't have the weight loss incentive (I'm 5'7" and weigh 122) and I don't know if that helps or hinders me??
I don't understand people who say they have no sweet tooth, by the way. What must that be like?
-
Well it must be nice b/c I have no idea what's that like.
I said I wasn't going to have anything last weekend at my family reunion. So then I said..ok maybe one dessert. Well that one dessert turned into 2.5 brownies and a piece of pie.
My question is..how do people stop at one?
-
Wait ! A big event like a family reunion is NOT the time to deny yourself (at least in my opinion). That's why I was trying to be "good" the two weeks leading up to my cousin's wedding (this Saturday). So then I could cut loose and really enjoy myself...and thinking also that maybe taste of sugar would be too intense by then and I could self-moderate. Cuz, otherwise, I sure don't know the answer to how do people stop at one...
Anyway, I plan to enjoy myself at the wedding and eat whatever looks good. Even if I didn't do very well in the days leading up to it like I planned (oops).
-
Well I wasn't looking to deprive myself..just not overindulge. Which is what I did.
Don't worry! I'm not too hard on myself. And enjoy yourself at the wedding! Sounds fun!
-
I'm back from a weekend in Lake Tahoe and my cousin's wedding. I had a great time! But I ate too much, drank too much, and maybe danced too much (I'm a little sore). I really need to get back on track...my moods and my ability to sleep well are so affected by sugar...
-
Jancie -- LOL re: cabana boys... well I don't think I've worn a bikini since I was 12
But I am looking forward to the pool time!
-
Jen - it sounds like you had a great time!!! Today is another day
Michelle

No updates on this thread since mid-July!!! Oh no!!! Are we all eating sugar like me? I hope not!! Check in please if you see this ladies!
I have been walking at night with DH this week, and that is making me pay more attention to my eating also. I feel like I need to re-read the whole thread. More & more media seems to come out all the time demonstrating the ill effects of too much sugar in our diets.
-
XmasDx - thanks for giving this thread a wake-up call! I'm here, finished chemo #5 of 8, letting myself have ice cream a couple times a week but otherwise avoiding sugar as always. Trying to not lose any weight while doing chemo...I'm down just one pound overall, so I'm doing OK.
Lilah - how are you doing?
Michelle
-
Hi all -- I have been doing so-so on the sugar. I went back to work and it's been kicking my butt (I'm a Fed Ex courier) and it's been hard to keep up on the different threads...
-
Hi all -- yes we have been quiet haven't we? I've been VERY busy this summer with a lot of travel and events that were food-challenging. I've managed to lose 17 pounds so far (which I think I had already posted) so basically this summer has been about not gaining (as opposed to losing) and while I've had some sugar splurges they have been small and controlled. Blood sugar is still good (thank you Michelle for asking
and weight is great! I don't mind being in a holding pattern for now... as long as I AM holding!
-
I'm still avoiding sugar as much as I can. I do get natural sugar from the fruit I eat. I also eat some 70-85% dark cholocate everyday which contains sugar. However, the health benefits of the dark cholocate are good. But candy, cake, muffins etc I am staying away from. I keep telling myself "it's poison to me" and that helps.
I tried the baked kale chips and they are good but not for everyday. I also like the unsweetened banana chips I get at whole food. But you can't eat too many of them.
I too keep looking for some suggestions for avoiding sugar and some healthly snacks. It's getting boring......
Anyone???
-
I like the NewTree dark chocolate bars - low in sugar. I have 2 favorites: cranberries and nuts, the other is a Belgium Biscuit with flaxseeds hig in fiber, omega 3.
-
I too keep my sugar consumption to dark chocolate and fruit... on a few occasions I have broken down and had ice cream (it IS summer after all) but really have been successfully avoiding processed sugar other than that.
