Kay good luck on the diep, had mine on mar 31 and recovered quite well..and fast...Will be thinking of you on Wed.
Michelle... I always like to chop up the leftover meatloaf and add to spaghetti sauce..makes a really good meat sauce.
Rain here also for the last 3 days. Going to go and wander through the second hand shop today with a girlfriend. Want to re-do my sons bedroom while i am still out of work, he is in his last year of college and only comes home on the holidays, so cleaning out all the stuff. He is 22 and i am still finding legos and army men!

Here is a simple soup I make when I am either in a rush or just don't have the energy to make something big:
Take a can of Primo beef n Barley soup (or a can of campbells barley soup and a beef oxo), a large can of diced tomatos, and to your liking of frozen veggies, onion, salt and pepper.
Put in a pot and heat for 45 minutes until veggies are tender to your liking.
It's quick and easy and isn't as boring as just opening a can of regular soup.
If you would rather chicken and noodles or brown rice, that's good too.
-
meatloaf spaghetti sauce.. sounds awesome.
tonite we are having stir fried vegetables with lots of cabbage.. i have two heads. something else too.
-
I must admit that meatloaf spaghetti sauce is interesting. And my usual meatloaf recipe is seasoned with an Italian herbs, so I think it would taste like meatballs and sauce.
We're having grilled steaks, asparagus and Caprese salad tonight. It would be very nice if the sky would clear out so we're not grilling in the rain.
Rushell - I haven't made this in years (for no good reason), but my paternal grandmother had a recipe for hamburg vegetable chowder that included barley, corn, potatoes, tomatoes, celery and onions. Your soup is very similar.

I too have done the meatloaf/spaghetti sauce thing. Though I will confess it was my husbands idea. It is good and makes a nice quick meat sauce.
Michelle- thanks for the recipe, it looks like a meatloaf my mother used to make. I'll have to try it next time. I hope the skies clear for you to grill your dinner. The sun is poking out up here just a little and I thought I heard it is supposed to keep getting better.
This morning it was still rainy and cold so I planned another cooler temp dinner- chicken pot pie. I'm about to get the chicken cooked so I can shred it for the pie. On a separate note, my dad brought me my first garden tomato last night and I had a tomato sandwich for breakfast. It was wonderful! I had to laugh when I offered my son a bite, who LOVES tomatoes, and he said "no I don't like lobster." lol! I guess it was the red:) I told him what it was and the little bugger ended up taking half of it from me!
-
Laurie - that's funny! My 4-year-old granddaughter loves tomatoes, they grow a cherry tomato plant just for her! The sun is trying to pop out, I think grilling will happen.
Check out my new avatar...I'm wearing the gorgeous headwrap from Franceluxe - their Good Wishes program. They even enclose a greeting card individually signed by the entire staff. It's an amazing gift to people who have suffered hair loss for any medical reason. DH prefers me with a wig but I have to say this thing is way, way more comfortable than even my really good wig. And when he turns the ceiling fan on, my head won't be cold...lol.
Michelle
-
Michelle- I love the wrap! You look really good in it, if it feels better go with it!
-
Michelle you look like a teenager with a cool headband awesome picture! I never could rock the scarve/headcovering thing, so just wore my wig out and went topless at home. Didnt really have a conversation with DH of which one he preferred, but he never complained of me being topless.
Doing grilled chicken, potatoes and corn on the cob. Seems like we are getting the corn in at least once a week...gotta do it while its here.
love the tomato sandwhich story, kids are so funny! Wish mine were little again.
-
Thank you for the well wishes on the DIEP tomorrow. Seaside, LOL on the stalker comment! I would not think that.
Michelle, you do look great in that scarf. I am still basically bald (about 3 mm of hair), and have never worn a scarf. I just can't pull it off.
We had hamburgers on the grill, corn on the cob, broccoli and a salad. Am going to have some ice cream later before my 12 o'clock curfew for eating and drinking. Didn't get to make the eggplant parm, too tired today. Maybe it's from the Hercepting from yesterday. Have a great night and next few days everyone! I don't think I'll be around for a little while. Eat a little extra for me tomorrow.
-
Laurie,
This picture is for you
I bought the tomatoes and mozzarella at Idylewilde's in Acton, MA. My DH could eat this every day.
Thanks everyone for the compliments on the headwrap. DH says he prefers my pink ballcap
I told him I prefer seeing him in a polo shirt instead of a t-shirt...lol.

That looks really yummy, Michelle.
-
Lena - no cooking with that dish, just a little assembly! Well, you've got a lot of the food groups there.
Michelle
-
Kay- Will be saying prayers and thinking about you today, When you are up to it let us know how you are.doing (((hugs))
Michelle- That wrap is so cute, you look so young too! Had to laugh at your comment to your DH about his his shirt LOL! Love that pic of the tomato and mozzerella cheese it looks so good.;
Apple- I love lots of cabbage in my stir fry too,
I love the idea of making speggitti out of left over meatloaf, I like the meatloaf recipe from martha stewarts mom, it very good,
Went out to dinner for my friends Bd tonight, resisted having my lobster/mac and cheese and had bacon wrapped shrimp in a apricot sauce with rice and fresh green beans it was delicious,
-

Tonight im making fresh green beans, zucchini roasted with tomatoes and onion topped with parmesan cheese- And cod with a lemon caper butter sauce

Hi everyone! Got home from chemo about 4:30 or so and took a quick nap. Wow! Mainlining benadryl put me in quite the stupor! But the steroids were in conflict and I couldn't sleep, just lay there, closed my eyes once in a while and tried to keep up a conversation with DH and DS. I think the worst has passed and I'm just extremely thirsty. I drank fluids the whole time I was in the chair, and now I am eating grapes.
We are having leftovers for supper - there's plenty of stuff in the fridge.
Everything sounds good - I'm actually quite hungry!
Michelle
-
tacos - Americanish tacos, flat with arugula (very strong), parsley, beans, cheese, hamburger, adobe peppers and a salad of diced tomato, onion and lettuce... and salsa
-
Michelle- I didnt know you were doing that today, hope you SE are minimal and get some rest
-
Debbie - the fog has lifted and I don't feel so hung over...I was able to form some seemingly logical thoughts for my blog. Well, at least I hope they were logical
I feel ok but I think I'll sleep tonight!
-
Michelle- Just finishied catching up on your blog, the story of your friends brought a tear to my eye. Is it standard to give benadryl with taxol ? I had never heard of that, but i didnt have taxol as part of my tx. Sounds like it really threw you for a loop! I never liked taking the steriods either, i had to take a ambien so i could sleep. I will be thinking about you and hoping you get some rest tonight! *(((((hugs))))
-
Kay- I hope you are ok today after your surgery!
-
that benadryl really knocks you out.. i could feel it surging thru my veins and boom... i was sleeping.. and on only just a few milligrams.. a low dose.
-
Debbie - I am only getting 6 mg of steroids - a pretty low dose by most standards. Apparently the Benedryl is standard with Taxol because of its tendency to cause quick and serious allergic reactions. I haven't said anything to Rick yet, but I would like to walk with my friends next year. Either I get them out here for the Boston race or I get myself to KC. I suspect I would have to go. It would be nice to see some of my other girlfriends, too. And maybe meet Apple/Mary!
I think for the next treatment, I am going to have Rick leave once they start the premeds, and give him a time to come back and get me. It would be almost exactly four hours from the start. It's kind of hard to sleep when you have family in there with you. We are less than 20 minutes away, he could come home and work, then come and get me. And maybe I could get a nap.
Hopefully Kay is resting comfortably in ICU. I believe she'll be there for a couple of days so that the nurses can use dopplar to monitor the blood flow of the transplanted tissue.
Good night, ladies!
Michelle
-
ok.. i could meet you for the walk/run.. i hope.
One of my favorite things about cancer is the chance to take naps.. which I learned about in the infusion room on Benadryl.
-
Apple - have you ever been to the KC Walk? It's an amazing scene! Even if you're not up to walking, you could participate in some of the survivor events and the very short survivor parade. And if that doesn't work, I could drive to you, meet you somewhere convenient, whatever would work if I get that close!
Michelle
-
apple- the tomato pie recipe looks wonderful!
Kay I too hope you are resting comfortably.
Michelle- I hope you're continuing to gain strength. You're one tough cookie!
For lunch I just chopped up some fresh cucumber and tomato from the garden and threw it in a wrap with some dill havarti cheese. It was awesome.
I've been searching for some new eggplant recipes and found a couple of interesting ones I think I'll try.

tonight is haddock and scallops- we missed fish tastic Wednesday be cause we had a quick cheeseburger last night and took the kids out for ice cream- my three and a half year old has FINALLY mastered the potty.
-
almost forgot! Debbie your lunch yesterday sounded great- it's the simple things sometimes that are the best!
-
2 LuvRVing - oh I could walk.. unless i get worse. My friends always ask me to join them for the walk and I am always sooooo busy. Not so much now.
-
Apple - ok then! We'll plan on walking with my survivor friend and her family. I'll start working on my DH, he may want to go, too!
Time to recharg my solar batteries. Heading out to the boat dock to sit in the sun and start reading one of the books that JoyceK sent home to me!
