crad001w2301 Everolimus, Trastuzumab. Vinorelbine in HER2+

Options

Sorry, guys, can someone tell me how to search here for this topic, or just respond to this post if you are involved, or have been involved with this clinical trial?

My sister's breast cancer has apparently returned, and this is the trial they are suggesting for her.

She's HER2+ and has a nodule in her lung that has grown, still quite small though.

I am interested in any and all information about this trial, side effects, managing them, the rules involved regarding the placebo end of the trial.  Will they unblind based on RECIST criteria and give her the real drug, basically anything you can tell me.

Or if you can direct me to the correct thread for this?

Thanks so much!

windysea22, until someone who is participating in the trial comes along, you'll find information about this trial at the ClinicalTrials.gov site.

    Here's the direct link:  http://clinicaltrials.gov/show/NCT01007942

Yes, I have already read about the trial there.

I want to hear patient information and experiences if I can.

It also doesn't really specify if they will unblind and give the patients the real drug based on RECIST.

    Thanks!

I want to let you all know, especially those considering this trial, that although the chemo was kind of rough at times, my sister's mets entirely disappeared with this combination.  She is now NED.

She continues on Herceptin of course.

Mods, if there is a better place to put this information so other HER2's can see it, please do!

Oh, by the way, they do not unblind and then offer the drug, which I thought was odd.  However, it was quite obvious that she was on the real drugs early on.

Hopefully this will help someone else who is debating trials.

Main side effects were extreme fatigue, a few times they had to stop the drug for low blood counts, (one person told her to be sure to eat some beef) but were always able to resume the next dose.  Nausea was apparently not as bad as the first chemos (standard) and her hair continued to grow very slowly, so no hair loss?

Updating again for anyone else who is HER2 + and considering this trial.  Still no sign of return of the mets on her latest scan.

She continues on Herceptin, but the MD is confident that IF it comes back, at least they know what works for her now.
