Bras Post-Flap Surgery?

I bought a wireless bra by Warner when it was time to go bra shopping after my diep. Underwire hurt too much for me. My surgery was almost 3 years ago. It's the only bra I buy now.

Your health insurance should help pay for bras-- you have to get a prescription from one of your oncology docs; my Nordtrom's bras fit great but were pricey, but my insurance paid for about 1/2 which helped a lot.

TwoHobbies, I am curious about why bras are hard to find post DIEP.  I am 17 days post DIEP.  My PS requires me to wear a surgical bra 24/7 for one month post surgery.  Believe it or not, I even have to wear it in the shower.  this bra reminds me of a light ace bandage.  It gives me some light support.

When I look at my breasts though they seem more oval than round.  I think I would have a problem finding a bra that would fit me from armpit to armpit, if that makes any sense.  Just curious why others have problems finding bras that fit.

I went for a professional fitting (yes, it was awkward the first time when the fitting girl had to leave the dressing room) but then I made calls and found a place that dealt with mastectomy/reconstruction.  I found a few great bras in a size (38D) I would have never even considered - i thought I was a 36B/C prior, but maybe had been wearing the wrong size?

I got one underwire and one nice comfy day-time bra.  And now that I know the corret size am able to get bras at Target and have them fit great!  So - go for a professional fit  - it was so worth it.

First I went to Macys and the girl who measured me was young and afraid - it was horrible.  Next, to a shop that specialized.  The woman was kind, and made me feel totally comfortable, which was a challenge as I was still nipple-less.  After nipple recon and tattoo I went to Nordstroms and  it was a positive experience.  I made sure I told the sales person that I was post recon so she would not freak out.  She was calm and professional and took her time.  She brought me over 15 bras  to try - differenct colors and styles and after each one she helped me the the necessary adjustment to insure proper fit.

I went to a nice bra shop and was fitted (was really ticked when the employee just barged into my dressing room though), but the molded cup bras do not fit my SGAP breasts. My best find was a soft cup bra at target for $18! After years as a 32F, I'm done paying $70 for a bra!

I've had the best luck with the Bali Comfort Revolution wire free bra style #3463.  It was recommended in another thread.  I tried this one in addition to a number of others and this one clearly fit and felt the best of all of them.  Best part is they are widely available and fairly inexpensive.  I get mine at Kohls.

Your breasts will continually change.  After the DIEP in Oct 2013, my breasts were large blobs.  I started wearing the stretchy athletic bras in week 4.  Within a couple of months they were starting to take shape. In my first revision surgery in Feb, they were lifted and ended up round with no protrusion or tear drop shape.  I started wearing real bras that were wireless.  I bought several with molded cups.  Like you I noticed that none of them fit very well.  The ones with molded cups had space at the tip.  By the time it was warm enough to wear T shirts and other thin tops, the girls had conformed to the shape of the bras.  I like the molded cups because they have a natural shape and are thick enough to hide the crop circles.

I have not bought any expensive bras yet because I have not finished my reconstruction. The girls are not the same size or shape yet.  I was lucky enough to buy several bras at a good price because my local Sears was being torn down and everything was reduced by 60 - 75% during the last few weeks.  I bought one of every wireless bra that they had in my size.  My collection includes Playtex, Bali, Warners, Maidenform, Olga and Hanes.
