Breast MRI and Mammo On The Same Day?

Hello to my fellow high-risk sisters!

I am due next month for both my yearly mammogram and my 3 month follow-up breast MRI. Do any of you know if both can be done on the same day? If so, does it matter which one is done first? I have a long commute into Brigham & Women's in Boston, so I'd like to be able to get them both done in the same trip if possible.

Thanks!

I had mammograms, sonograms and an MRI on the same morning. The results were ready for my surgeon's appointment that afternoon. I think I had the mammograms done first.

barb, I had them both in the same day last year.  I did the mammo and an u/s first, then the MRI.  But the radiologist told me that in the future it would be better schedule the MRI first because it takes a bit longer for the results to come to her, and she wanted to be able to give me all the results before I left.  This was @ UCLA and I live 3 hrs. away.  As it turned out, she had me stop back at the end of the afternoon, at which time she had the MRI results, which I really appreciated.  But I might not have had to wait around if I'd done the MRI first.

    Good luck!  Deanna

You can have them all done on the same day and generally the order does not matter. My doctor has me do all the tests on the same day as my appointment with her.  This makes it more convenient  for the patient.  I generaly have my testig in the morning and see my doctor around  one o'clock.  I even called my doctor's office to verify that she would receive my results in time.
