musicalmom - there is already a Taxotere, Carboplatin, Herceptin with great ladies who have just started treatment, are in the middle, and some of us that have just finished, or finished a while ago. There is a wealth of information and great people on that thread, definitely check it out!

    Hi MusicalMom,

I used to live in Carlsbad; on Acacia. Fun place to live.

I started the same chemo that you are going to have 3 weeks ago. I get Taxotere, Carboplatin and Herceptin once every 3 weeks and Herceptin once a week. So I go every Tuesday. This coming Tuesday is my second treatment of the all-three drugs. I took an anti-nausea medicine and it worked fine. I didn't throw up once. Today is Day 3 of my period since I started and it is VERY heavy. I have to change my pad every hour. I called the doc and the nurse called back. She said to come in tomorrow for a blood cell count, so it's seems normal. Not as urgent as my mother thinks. She thinks I need to go to the emergency room, but that's a mother for ya.

My hair is falling out a lot now. It is very thin; I don't have much left. My side part is huge and getting bigger. I bought a wig, ordered another one online and bought a bunch of scarves and a couple of hats. This is the most depressing aspect of breast cancer for me, is losing my hair.

I've been wanting to talk to someone who is going through the same thing as I am. I'm glad I found this site.

    Hi Tjimjim,

Thanks for responding. Yes Carlsbad is lovely. Where are you now? That is interesting that you are getting the Herceptin weekly. If you look above there is another forum with 350 pages of posts but if you select go to bottom you can get to the current ones and find the other people taking what we are taking. I am trying to connect with that group now but happy to dialogue with you here as well. Look above and click on Lago's link. Are you pretty young that you are still getting periods?

musicalmom - Go and look at the chemotherapy forum - you will find a thread for girls starting chemo in a particular month - great way to make life long friends and get support. Ooops - that might be lago's link but I can't look or I'll lose what I've typed.

I started on July 5th. I have the full deal every three weeks and the herceptin on weeks 2 and 3.  I start cycle three on Monday.  I have felt really good--no nausea at all.  I get chemo on Monday and then am tired week one on Wed and Thurs pms. I come out of that on the weekend and weeks two and three I feel normal.  Hair came out as the nurses predicted at day 20. Purchased a wig and some scarves.  I walk each day 3-4 miles and that has helped my energy a ton.  I do get a bit of a metallic taste week one, but that goes away week 2 of the cycle.  It seems to be a really tolerable treatment plan.
