Where do I belong?
Geez, I see the moderators have changed the categories while I was away. I don't fit into any of them.
Does the forum category describe the posters to that forum or the subject? This needs real clarification. What was the rationale for this change?
And I see many of the old Natural Girls no longer post. Boy, have we lost a lot of talent to the other websites.

I think the new Alternative section has done a lot to calm things. Since so many lines were drawn between the complimentary folks and the alternative folks, this eliminates the "why are you even posting here?" contentiousness.
You belong where you want to belong, as long as you respect the other posters. if you are going to rag on folks who used traditional approaches, you probably belong in the Alt section.

hi mollyann, i hope the forum describes the post and not the poster...
I think one reason for the change was to help with the concern that 'newbies could read info that would confuse them while in 'panic mode'...this way, the choice to go into the alt forum is more obvious, and the mods have added a disclaimer at the top.
-
Hi Molly, I feel you belong here as well as in the other location. You are a great asset where ever you go.

I think the change was made, so women having chemotherapy, radiation, hormonal therapy, could access valuable information about complementary treatments, without being ATTACKED, and told "Don't DO IT" regarding their choices to have what is often called "standard treatment."
If someone wants to attack chemotherapy, or standard/traditional methods of treating cancer, then this "opinion" would not be appropriate to post in this Forum. As stated by the Moderators.
THe Alternative FOrum:
Alternative Medicine
Alternative medicine refers to treatments that are used INSTEAD of standard, evidence-based treatment. Please share your experiences here, but please also refrain from providing individual medical advice (our Rules of Conduct: http://community.breastcancer.org/help/rules -
Sunflowers,
This is just what I want to clarify. Is the purpose of this forum to protect those here from assertions that their conventional treatment was "wrong"? If so, there is an agreement never to post anything negative about traditional medicine here? If that is the case, I completely understand.
Now, as far as the Alternative forum goes, does that board get equal protection from those who set out to disparage non conventional therapies?
As a personal note, I started this thread out of confusion because I have used some conventional and some non-standard approaches. I'm not sure what that makes me as a category. I respect what everybody else does for treatment and would not dream of telling anybody what treatment they should or should not take.

Hi Kira,
Nice to be back and see your new picture.
-
I think you've nailed it, Mollyann. I know I won't go on the Alt forum and disparage alternative approaches. Many women here are combining both and don't want to have the traditional approaches attacked.
-
We separated the Forum per multiple requests from posters.
Hope it is okay for All,
The Mods

MollyAnn, that is my understanding - this Forum Complementary and Holistic is for those women who want to combine traditional/standard medicine ( chemotherapy, radiation, hormonals) with complementary approaches - using a Holistic approach to healing.
This forum includes many valuable approaches that would be considered "non-traditional" by many. For example, I encourage women who are experiencing SE's from hormonal treatments to try Acupuncture. My experience, now after almost 4 years, is that it's one of the most beneficial things I've done. I also follow a restricted diet of foods, that helps me too.
AND, this is not a Forum in which it would be appropriate for anyone to criticize women who are having chemotherapy, or to post "anti-chemotherapy" rants.
Thanks again, Mods, I hope this works to keep it peaceful, and informative for all women.

Sunflowers and Mods,
Thank you for your comments. I understand separating the forum names. I understand that integrative approaches will invariably be people who do combinations of surgery, chemo or rads or whatever and add say, for example, add Vitamin D. And fershure, no sniping.
What MOC wrote spelled out a code of conduct that was expected in the BOTH forums that involved respecting our sister patients' decisions. This clarified my confusion. Thank you, MOC. We don't often agree. But today, you betcha.
