For the record, I sent the following pm to thenewme 2/8/11 at 9.23pm after reading that she had asked the mods to delete her account.

"Hi,just want to say that it is sad when someone who is informed and passionate chooses to leave. It is the 'arguing' and insults that need to go, not informed people like you. I know you have had a go at me at times, but i still value your information. I think it is the tone that is used by some, and the ganging up when someone from either 'side' comments, that has made everyone here feel frustrated, on both 'sides'. I wish you all the best, and hope you reconsider. I have only stood for 'how' people are spoken to here, never against discussion of merits of therapies/posts :) "

For the record, i believe that, Luan, also, was just as passionate, and maybe frustrated, as a number of us were. I hope Luan's membership is also re considered.

Sometimes its healthy to step back when things get contentious.

    .

Yes, we should definitely get Luan back too. Everybody has taken a breath and that's the only fair thing. Let's move on and accomplish something constructive.

I am surprised that MollyAnn would use this thread, of all places, to state that thenewme was trying to intimidate anyone.   It is a violation of the rules, not to mention common decency to state, that any person is trying to INTIMIDATE anyone on this board. Thenewme was generously sharing her research.  Are you going to next accuse thenewme of "bullying" too????

It's good to see positive comments about a member who had (for a time) left the site. But let's not make this a forum for arguments and accusations, okay?

    Thanks.

Thank you Mods.  thenewme was so badly hurt by how her words were misinterpreted.  I've been in email contact with her, and I know she is planning to come back, a little more healing needed, I think.  It is so difficult for all of us, but a 3N has so few options, compared to what some of us can do, and I so understand her wanting to find something for herself, and others.

Wow, Black-cat - Thank you so much - I don't know what to say!  Wow!

Everyone else - thanks SO much for your kind words.   I'm so glad that my posts and intentions are not lost or misinterpreted by everyone.

Just for the record, I stand by every single post I've made here.

The only reason I deleted some of my posts was out of frustration.  Again, if anyone has any questions at all about my intentions, beliefs, motives, etc - it's quite easy to do a search of my posts over the last 3 years.  I'm nothing if not consistent, and honesty is my foundation.  I welcome PMs if anyone has any further questions, but I don't plan to spend much time on the board for obvious reasons.  Thanks again and my best to all!

thanks, thenewme, I hope we WILL see you on the boards in the Complementary and Holistic Forum.  The problems you encountered, bad as they were, were also catalytic in helping BCO determine the need to have TWO forums, instead of the orignal one forum.

With Alternative Forum being a separate category, I hope you will feel WELCOME, WELCOME, WELCOME to post your informative research with all of us.

thenewme - I have been "offline" and on  vacation.  I was so sad to see that you had left, and am overjoyed that it was a short term absence.  I have always enjoyed your posts.  I have learned a tremendous amount from bc.org - mainly from women like you.  I am very analytical and so appreciate your facts.  The fact is, science rocks.  Yes, cancer treatment is not perfect but we are benefiting from so many women and scientists that are researching and proving that breast cancer is treatable, and not always terminal.

Hi Sunflowers, thanks!  Unfortunately, I don't think the separation between ALT and INT is helpful or wise.  Honestly, I've looked around and I see that already the lines are very blurred, and I think it will only cause more trouble, not less.

IMHO, there are wayyyy too many forums here at BCO, and it really fragments the community and causes confusion.

The fact that there is now a separate "alternative" forum lends some sense of legitimacy and endorsement of the methods discussed, despite BCO's wishy-washy disclaimer.  Personally, I feel it's a forum designed to allow misinformation and false claims to be posted with no room for facts or debate allowed, and I find that very wrong.   Facts and information correction / discussion / debate should never be discouraged, and I believe that's exactly what the new board is doing.

AnnNYC,in another thread, posted the following information, which I think bears repeating here:

"... a great strength of an internet breast cancer discussion board was that misinformation was quickly corrected by subsequent posters:  http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1444809/

....The authors concluded: "Most posted information on breast cancer was accurate. Most false or misleading statements were rapidly corrected by participants in subsequent postings."

That being said, I realize it's not my site and I don't get to make the rules, so I admit I struggle with the decision to stay or go.

ETA- Thanks, Aprilgirl!  I couldn't agree more that "SCIENCE ROCKS!"  :-D

    thenewme -

I did not know that an actual study of internet information was performed.  Thanks to you, and to AnnNYC, for posting the link!

I like well-informed and spirited debate on all topics.  In this way, we have many points of view and can make better decisions.  I just hate when it deteriorates into personal attacks.

thenewme:  I am very glad your posts remain, and I hope you will stay also.  I hope BCO remains a place where people like you, who are honest and informative, are welcomed.

Enjoyful - I agree.  It is important to see ALL sides of issues- the pros and cons.  It is when opinions are stated as facts that some of us get riled up.

Thenewme - I do hope you come back on a regular basis!

I agee with Jancie - all information, as long as "opinions" are not stated as "facts."  I do not feel in any way responsible for what is written in the Alternatives Forum, and I hope, thenewme, you will ignore what you don't want to read, or don't agree with.

We've got ENOUGH to do, taking care of ourselves, and learning what is best for us as individuals. I just want to be able to read COmplementary and Holistic approaches to healing without reading rants against chemotherapy, and traditional approaches, while learning as much as I can about the complements to these treatments.

I hope you will find a way to stay, post as you always do, and IGNORE what you feel "needs" correcting in other Forums.
