Congrats Kerry….what a great story.

Awesome girlfriend~!

Thank you so much for sharing your story. Truly inspiring! I remember when I was sick and had a really hard time. I was practically bed ridden. When I was NED I joined a gym and started working out 5 times a week. I lost weight 45 lbs and continue on to do more as I felt so good. Then I was dx with bone mets and the cancer was eating away at my leg and hip. Just had surgery in June. My hip was fracture when they went in to put the rods in. I am in PT 2 times a week and I go to the gym 2 times a week, I had to stop exercise cause of the bone mets. I am doing Taxotere/Carboplatin/Zometa yet I am continuing with riding the bike for 15 min and doing my pool exercises. I use dumbbells for my arms. With your story and dealing with cancer give me hope to have the strength to carry on, Thanks again and Congratulations for your success. Your testimony is amazing.

Kerry you give us all hope and incouragement so very Proud of you I am just starting to walk every evening but hope to run soon I heard from my Oncol that excercise is the best medicne you can give your body it makes us stronger especially during Chemo.so Thank You for such a great Story.

Awesome! Congratulations!

Sandy, your oncologist is right. I exercised throughout chemo as an experiment, and I really believe I had a much easier time because of it. I even did a cycling event and went skiing. True, it was the short course and I walked hills, but I did the Chilly Hilly a year ago.
Good luck. I am so happy to have the Macmilan study as confirmation of the road I took. Two years ago, there was very little evidence, and I was a trail blazer.
I am now fitter (as is Kerry) than at any time in my adult life. I am not a young woman either.
(I failed middle age, but don't tell anyone.)
Good luck. - Claire

Thank you everyone!
I really credit exercise as being key in my recovery, both mentally and physically. And it has been wonderful to find a passion as well! Gives me something much more healthy to obsess over than cancer!
-
Congratulations on how far you have come!!! I've been recently diagnosed and lately been feeling like my life is over..I know I have to be positive and stop feeling sorry for myself so I thank you for posting your story !! You are amazing!!!!
-
Kerry: Congratulations on all your success! I love your story and have this posted as a Favorite Topic--just like the moderator stated. I used to jog years ago and have started walking by the beach--and will add swimming lessons and return to yoga and meditation.
Claire in Seattle: Thank you for letting me know about Kerrymac--I am going to use her as another role model to get healthy and strong so I can truly be my alter ego--Kim Strong. I may even take a self-defense class to get as strong as possible so I will never feel helpless or weak---my best life is ahead!

Wow! You are a true hero.
-
Kerry - thanks for sharing. Your story is a real pick me up.
I unfortunately have let my exercise slip during treatment. I've completed 8 chemo treatments and have 7 to go. I can see light at the end of the tunnel and it's stories like yours that keep me positive and focussed! -
Congrats Kerry! Love it!

Good for you Kerry! I was diagnosed in August '08, with a two-year-old, thought it was related to breast-feeding too. Hospitalized after first round of chemo with mysterious fever and no white blood cells - worst four days of my life. I didn't discover this site until about a year after diagnosis, but I feel connected to so many of you. Your story rings especially true to me. Anyway - here we are and, mercifully, unbelievably, life goes on. Congrats. Keep running, girl!
-
Wait! Holy sheesh! August '08! It'll be three years tomorrow, actually! August 12. Well, whad'ya know - I almost forgot my cancerversary! I NEVER thought that would happen! I'll raise a glass of something to everyone here - especially the newbies. Cheers!
-
Why am I just seeing this for the first time? Awesome article, Kerry...and you made me cry
-
Wow, I am so inspired too, I am newly dx'd as well and have a lot of days feeling my life is going to end and WOW.. you have put a smile on my face.. As I wiped away the tears at the same time if that makes any sense..
-
Kerry,
Wonderful!
My kids were just 2 and not yet 3-1/2 when I was diagnosed. Did what I thought was the crunchy right thing to do, breastfed beyond infancy. My breasts shrinking as they weaned were like the tide receding and, oh whoops, there's a great big thing on that beach.
But we do what we can, Now can you give me some inspiration for some new knees?
-
Beautiful story ,it relates to me , i've been diagnosed last year and i wanna run now!
-
Love this!
