I had my 2nd wide excision today for my DCIS

Praying for clear margins!! I cannot take a third one. My first surgery the biopsy showed 1cm but when the surgeon got in there is was really 4cm's are 2nd wide excisions normal? I was devastated when she had to go back in..

    Sounds like you are having a rough day---Give yourself some hugs! 

    In my experience, it is not uncommon that they have to go back. I would say thats a sign of a careful surgeon who is trying to take as little as necessary.  My surgeon had to go back because one margin wasn't good but the second one was just fine.

    I'm not sure what you mean about there being 4cms when they got in---Did you have an MRI before your procedure?

    The biopsy only picke up 1.3 cm when the surgeon did the first wide excision it was really 4cm.

    No I did not have an MRI before the procedure. I meet with the Dr tomorrow.

    It is not uncommon to have a second surgery to get clear margins.  I had two surgeries last summer.  The second surgery was easy and healed much faster.  I hope the same for you, along with clear margins !!

    I also had a 2nd lumpectomy and they got it all the second time. Praying for you for good results,hang in there.  I

    Unfortunatly I did not get clear margins after the 2nd lumpectomy. I am scared to death! I mee with th Dr today to discuss options.. I wil not have a mastectomy for non invasive, no comedonecrosis, no epr no pr no her 2. I will make her go in again!!
