Fractured rib post radiation?

I was just told that the swelling and severe pain behind my breast is because I have a fractured rib.  This is about 2 years after treatment.  Anyone else have deterioration or brittleness of ribs after radiation?  Onc. says this is common.  I had never heard of this.  It usually happens 1 to 2 years after rads.  It will take a while to heal on its own.  No treatment, just pain.

    Are you on any of the hormone blockers?  I am on femara and so they are watching my bones closely.  I also had radiation.  My oncologist is having me do an infusion of zometa twice a year to help with bone problems.  I have a curved spine so I alread have some minor back issues.  My oncologist says that besides helping to keep my bones strong zometa has been provide to help with bone mets.  which I do not have, but will help to keep me from getting.

    Oh yeah, I had 3 broken ribs last year and 2 so far this year.  Takes a long time for them to heal also.  Like shortlady said the AIs also wreak havoc on our bones.  You may need to start having yearly bone density test done also.
