Hi, My name is Rebecca. I am 28 years old. I am BRCA1+, strong family history, lost my mom to her third battle with breast cancer in January of this year. I have multiple cysts and calcifications. I am scheduled for my bilateral mastectomy on August 9th!!! I am kinda freaking out! So nervous.

I was just wondering if anyone has any advice for someone going into this???

Any advice at all would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Rebecca

Hi Rebecca!  I'm so sorry for the loss of your mom!  I am BRCA2 positive and lost my sister to b/c 2 years ago at the age of 48.  I know how scary this journey can be.  I have not had my prophylactic mastectomy yet but am 2 weeks post-op from having my ovaries removed/hysterectomy.  If you haven't already, I would highly recommend visiting the FORCE webiste (Facing Our Risk of Cancer Empowered).  It is for pepole that have the BRCA mutation and you will find TONS of information, advice and support there.  I visit the message boards daily!  The website is below.   I will say a prayer and hope that your surgery goes well on the 9th!

Thank you! :) I will check that site out now. I'm sorry to hear about your sister. I have heard a lot of people say that the mastectomies isn't as bad as I think. I'm hoping their right! :)

    Thanks again,

    Rebecca
