Rash on back?

I had radiation June/July 2010.  For quite some time I have had a rash on my back.  It hasn't gone away and I asked my husband when he thought it first appeared.  He thought that it was probably around the time I had radiation and maybe it is from the exit of the radiation.  Has anyone else experienced this?  Was there anything you could do for it?  Thank you!

Can you describe the rash? Is it blistery, peeling, red, itchy, or what?

They are irregular edged splotches.  Color wise, it looks like a tan compared to the unaffected skin.

Well, that's interesting. I was thinking about the possibility of shingles, but that doesn't sound at all like shingles. I've never heard any radiation patients describe this kind of rash. I think I'd see a dermatologist.

I have a big brown spot on my back from the exit of radiation beams.  I had my supraclavicular node radiated and it went right through me, apparently.  Kind of creepy, but oh well.

I had a blistery red rash at the end of radiation and the radiation onc said it was radiation dermatisis.  It went away gradually although you can still see a faint scar where it was - 21/2 years later.

    Hey Cowgal

Any more info on your rash?  I got a rash in the middle of my back during rads.  It really looked like radiation dermatitis but, yikes, it was between my shoulder blades.  I figured I was a goner if they'd radiated through my heart like that.  The rad onc prescribed some steroid cream and the rash went away after just a few days of the steroid cream.  Good idea to see a dermatologist.

    Good luck.

Thanks for everyone's input.  It takes a year to get into a dermatologist out here but I will be seeing my surgeon and my plastic surgeon the end of the month and will ask them.  I will let you know what I find out.
