I don't have a second name as my mother was upset with hers - Gertrude. Yet, my brother, born 12 years later was given 2 names.

Hey suemed - what year? we might almost be twins :)

Gertrude.  Now that's a name that will probably never make a comeback. :) ....that and Bertha!

I love the name Genevieve!  I have a french friend who named her daughter that and they call her Gigi.  Too cute.

    Susan,

I strongly suspect her first name is Gertrude but she goes by Joan. I was always upset I didn't have a second name and used to invent them - Amanda was my most favoured one for some reason.

I'm 1952, so I'm 1 day short of a year older :) Not looking forward to turning 59 this year - it's been all downhill since 55. My problem is I don't feel that old - certainly not in the head.

I am a Susan also.  Always called Susan growing up, moved to Delaware County when I was 30 years old and everyone out here calls me Sue. I was born in 1963.

suebak ~ so do you prefer Susan or Sue?

I don't "mind" if people call me Sue...but I do have more of a preference for Susan,

It doesn't really matter to me what people call me.  I am used to both now.  In the office, I refer to myself as Sue.  It is funny, now that we have facebook, all my chlldhood friends address me as Susan and newer friends as Sue.

How would you describe yourselves?  I'm curious to know if names influence personalities.

I'm a retired CPA, quiet, not good at parties, hard-headed (my childhood nickname was "hammer head"), and fairly open-minded.

OK, enjoyful, I am in my 34th year as an English teacher ( grades 7-12), so I have to be patient, also fairly quiet at parties, love to read, I think I have a good sense of humor, also fairly open-minded. I was a wild child in my 20's!

How did I miss this thread!  Susan Marie here.  I went by Sue for a while in junior high and high school.  My best friend from High School is also named Susan, so we were called "The Sues".  Grandma called me Suzie Q and I hated it, until high school and I liked the song!

My family ALWAYS called me Susan.  I can usually tell if someone knows me from high school if they say "Sue, is that you?"....I was born in 1964.

And the Susan thread is once again revived!!! Tongue out

I'm so glad you found it SueBee!! Suze is my favorite too...only my dad called me that. And Happy Birthday coming up! What is this 29 or 30? ;)

Hi Susan Marie..you are from Seattle, right?  I think I sat next to you at the Red Robin meeting almost a year ago! Are you coming to the one on the 24th?  I had a best friend named Sue too. :)

Susan I know a lot of people will say 29....or its the 14th anniversary of my 29th year or whatever - but dang, I'm discovering I get BETTER with each year so I never wanna go back to my 20's!!! Wink

I would introduce myself as Suze but then I would get 'HUH?"....I get that with Sue too.  Why is that?  Do I mumble or something?  Maybe I should just start trying again....I really do like it much better than Sue.

Many times when I've answered the phone "Hi, this is Susan"... I'll get "Hi Suzy".  Huh!?  I must mumble too!!

And I completely agree..... each year does get BETTER! I've never been one to lament the milestone birthdays like 30, 40 etc.   Mid 40's is the new mid 60's damnit! ;)

Ask me again when I turn 60. ;)

Well this thread keeps popping up in the recently active list. And since there are ONLY five recently active items, clearly this is a sign.

I, too, and a susan. I am not a susie, suzie, sue, or suzanne.... just a susan. There were always hourdes of Susan's in my grade, all the way through college actually. And I never wavered from using my real name. Happily, every one else gave themselves a nick name. I did have an uncle who called me SusanCookie, but that had to do with food preferences. His wife made one helluva cookie and my Mom didn't ever bake.

Did everyone SING to you growing up?  I always had old guys singing Sweet Sue or Suzy Q or Wakeup Little Susie...Runaround Sue, Crocodile Rock, I could go on and on.....

Please stop singing to me.  IT.  GETS.  OLD.

    Laughing

And my favorite nickname was my Aunt who called me Susa-belle.  She is the ONLY one that could call me that.

Welcome *susan* !!  It just blows me away how many Susan's there are on here.

I got the Suzy Q singing and Wakeup Little Susie alot.  Sometimes A Boy Named Sue. I think that was when I was late on getting my upper lip waxed. Tongue out

No one sang to me as a child... at least not susan songs. Guess there is some advantage in growing up in an uptight Yankee family. My mother, who was never known for her voice, would cackled out "Oh what a beautiful morning" on occassion. But like Pavlov's dogs we kids knew this was a good thing and that we might be served pancakes.

Had to join in! I am a Susan Susan. My chemo nurse kept calling me Sue last week and I told my husband i was not in the mood for it! If I get her next time I will have to set her straight. It is like nails on a chalkboard to me.

    Toodles,

    Susan

Hi Susan Susan :) ... Yes, I hate it when people are presumptuous and shorten your name without asking.  I hope you are able to set her straight next time. :)

Here's another Susan. Like many of you, I prefer Susan to Sue.....and for Heaven's sake, do NOT call me Susie!! I was born in the '40's, when Susan was a fairly common name. You don't hear it much any more. My grand nieces and nephews call me "Aunt Soup", a name started by the oldest who is now 18 years old.

Hi Susan!  Looks like you just got diagnosed.  Hope you didn't let that spil your holiday. :)
