    Hi SuzieQ58, Lago, and others who have supported me. Finally I have some good news. I had my re-excision surgery and snb today. I won't find out most of the results until I receive the pathology report Wednesday or Thursday, but my surgeon did a preliminary check for lymph node involvement, and thank God he said the lymph nodes he tested were negative. I won't know if my margins are clear of if I will need plastic surgery, until Wednesday when I see my surgeon. My breast is bandaged and I am wearing a surgical support bra that my doctor doesn't want me to take off until I see him.Another piece of good news is that my doctor told me that he talked to the head of the radiology dept. at the hospital, and that doctor doesn't think the mri shadow will be a problem for me. I will explore this more with my doctor on Wednesday. Again Thank you all for supporting me and I will update when I get my path report

    Kate - I'm glad the surgery went well. The MRI spots depend on their BIRADS category and whether there was fast uptake and fast loss of contrast - that's quite suspicious. My 2 ADH spots were persistent on the loss of contrast which made them a Category 3 - probably benign. Your docs are the best to interpret those results.

    Yes, when they do the SNB - they have usually have a person from pathology to inspect the removed node(s) and can usually tell if they look ok. Of course, they have to do the lab testing, but it is usually a good indicator.

    Hope you're not in too much pain and won't need any plastic surgery.

    Hi Sue, I do not know the birads category or uptake or loss of control ratings for my mri finding. When my doctor told me what the head of radiology said about my mri finding It was right before my surgery, and I did not get a chance to discuss it further. I have an appointment with him tomorrow and I will talk to him about it then. How did they discover the birad rating for you? I thought that comes from the mammograms, and my mri finding did not show on a mammogram, and my doctor said it could not be biopsied. I don't know the reason mine can't be biopsied being guided by the mri, yet. Maybe it is because it is too small. I will ask my doctor that tomorrow too. I am feeling ok, not in pain, just a little bit of discomfort. I will update again after I get my pathology report Wednesday or Thursday.     Kate - MRIs do give a BIRADS score. Hope they got it all this time.

    Hi Suzieq58,

    I just thought of another question to ask you. When I had the mri I still had dcis and invasive tumor margins. So my question is this, do they do separate birad scores for the cancer and a separate birad score for the shadow? Since I had an invasive tumor ny birad score for that area would be a 5, and I am wondering what it would be for the shadow in another area.

    Kate - yes each spot should get it's own BIRADS score. My IDC was Category 3 and one of the spots was the same, but I never found out what the other spot was.

    Hi SuzieQ58 and others who have supported me,

    I just cam home from an appointment with my surgeon. I do not have lymph node involvement, my margins are clear, and I am stage one. He told me that my mri shadow was too small to do an mri guided biopsy. He also told me that the head of radiology at my hospital thinks it is nothing, and to just get another mri in a year. Thank you to everyone who has supported me. SuzieQ58 you have been wonderful.

    My MRI showed 2 adenofibromas & one tumor that turned out to be grade 1. I had the suspicious area biopsied prior to surgery. The biopsies were done by US. The MRI images were used to locate these areas by US. Showed them where to look, how large....... It took the MRI to initially rat these suspicious areas out. Good luck

    Hi coraleliz,

    My doctor told me that the shadow on my mri was too small to be biopsied. After I posted this my surgeon spoke to the head of radiology at my hospital, and he thinks it is nothing. He just wants me to have another mri in a year. In the meantime I had a re-excision lumpectomy and sentinel node biopsy Monday. I have great news my lymph nodes were negative, and my margins are clear. I am a stage 1. I feel so blessed. Thank you for your support.
