is this normal? my implant gurgles
I had my exchange surgery on 7/20 and I'm doing fine. But if I move my right arm just right the implant makes a gurgling noise. Is this normal? They are silicone not saline. I was expanded to 675 cc's and the implants are 750 cc's. Has anyone had this happen to them and will it always do this?

Jo, I had something like that happen shortly after my exchange -- probably noticed it about a week or two after exchange, and then it seemed like maybe it went away after 2 months? To me, it sounded and felt like bubble-wrap popping* -- totally freaked me out, called my PS office and they said it was normal. Couldn't really believe it was normal! "Made" it happen for them by moving my arm "just right" at next office visit -- again they said it was normal. They couldn't even say how it was caused, just that it was normal! So I guess it is, and as I said, for me it went away after about 2 months.
*[edited to add]: not as loud as bubble wrap popping! But kind of a "muffled" version of that...
2nd edit to add: If I were you, I would still call and ask! Unless other people answer and say it's completely normal and you feel satisfied with that. I would always err on the side of caution and call a doctor's office about anything that concerned me...

thanks Ann Yes, I need to call any way because I'd like to get some more flexerol as I feel some tightness at times even though I have no pain. My Dr. is 500 miles away so if needed I could get someone hear to listen to it because I can make it happen too. Mine sounds more like fluid moving around but with silicone there should not be any fluid just thick gell if I understand how they are made.

Yes, it is something nearly all of us experience after the exchange. It disappears within a couple of weeks. We have a name for it...."foob barts".....

My PS says that the "foob barts" occur because the muscle which is not usually open to air, gets exposed during exchange and the nitrogen gets trapped which takes time to reabsorb. This is what causes the noise. I have saline which initially sloshes until they settled.

I had that gurgling sound as well. Lasted a few months. Kind of weird, I must admit.

Bump. Good to know this is all normal.
