So I'm sure it's just because of the popularity of our name during our generation... and our generation now being at a place when BC is likely to occur...40's+.

But I keep noticing how many Susan's/Sue's there are here! ... and don't forget Susan G. Komen! You'd start to think our name was "cursed" somehow!  Tongue out

So I just thought I'd say a "shoutout" to the Sisterhood of Susan's/Sue's!

Hi Susan - I'm Susan, but much much prefer Sue. My mother named me after Susan Hayward. I was born in 1952. She still calls me Susan.

I'm a Susan too and I don't like any derivatives.  Just Susan.  :-)

Susan here - but have gone by Sue since jr. high. Debbie was another really popular name in my class (I'm 57.)

In my group of friends, bc has struck Nancy, Lisa, and Lori. Unfortunately, it's an equal opportunity disease, although I agree that it does seem like there are lot of us Susans/Sues here.

What names were you tormented with as a child? I remember sooey - sooey - sooey (lots of pig farms in IL where I grew up.)

Whew! Some Susan's/Sue's showed up! (and you too, Apple! :) I thought maybe I was being shunned. ;)

I remember moving in 2nd grade (mid school year) and the teacher said, "Oh, we already have another Susan so we'll call you Sue".(We ended up being best friends for years)  So I was called Sue all through school.  I started using Susan in my professional life...so most people call me Susan, which I prefer.  I'm thinking I may have an aversion to "Sue" because my sister used to call me Sue Poo.  Gotta love sisters!  My dad used to call me "Suz" as short for Susan.  I kinda like that.

I don't think I've seen much younger generation with the name Susan, if any.   Seems like "old" names are making a resurgence.. like Mabel.  I think "Susan" isn't old enough yet... or perhaps to boring. Tongue out

Sue ~ (guess which one I'm talking to! lol!)  I got the "sooey sooey" a little bit too. Now that I think about it... my sister also called me Susan Poosan.  I think she had a feces obsession. ;)

I'm a h.s. teacher and very rarely see a Susan any more (although when I do, they are ALWAYS wonderful students and exemplary human beings Wink.)

Welcome those who go by Susie and have Sue's for best friends! Tongue out

I think you are onto something Suemed8749! The only "younger" Susan I know is a Sophomore in college and she is a top student and has an awesome personality! She also happens to share my middle name too (Susan Clare.)  Obviously having this name gives us an edge in life.  .... well, besides maybe the cancer part! ;)

I work at an elementary school, and we do not have a single Sue or Susan there. No Mary either.

I once worked at a place back in the early 70's where we had a couple of Susans. I was Sue1 and she was Sue2. We are still in touch all these years later and I still think of her as Sue2. DH calls me Susie a lot - I like that.

I'm a Susan, but I mostly go by Sue or those that know me best call me Susie or Susie Q.  My brother when he was little couldn't pronounce my name and called me Who who.  I don't know any younger people with the name Susan these days.  I'm 51, but do know quite a few Sues around my age.  I believe it means the lily.

    Nice to meet you all...

Hi Susan, Susie Q, Sue Ann!

I like Who Who! too funny!

Would I change my name? I don't think so.  It would be odd to have people call me a completely different name. My mom has a friend who changed her name later in life (like in 50's) and went from Wilma to Ann (because she hated her name).  But I always think of her as Wilma!

Chickenpants (love the avatar!) my Uncle's family lives in Nanaimo and growing up we spent every single summer at their cabin on the beach!  I loved it there, many great memories. :)

Best friends named Susan!  Susan was a very popular name in the 1950s (I was born in 1952), so in high school my best friends were Sue M. and Sue R.  Then, when I moved to NYC in 1979, I quickly made two more best friends: Susan C. and Susie T.

And then, there are the wonderful Susans here!

Interesting list of the 5 most popular girls' and boys' names in the U.S. over the past 100 years:
    http://www.ssa.gov/oact/babynames/top5names.html

[Guess this list also explains why, in addition to my Sues, Susies and Susans, I've had 5 boyfriends (including ex-hubby) named David/Dave/Davey! Surprised]

I believe Susan was one of the most popular baby girl names in the late 40s and early 50s.

So, now we've all grown up, and we get to be stunned by all the Sues in this class, too!

Susan here as well... never a Sue, never a Susie, and only rarely a Susanne [French cousins.] There were always tons of Susans at every level of education. We had different nicknames, numbers, and last name initials. I named my daughter after her grandmother specifically so that her name would be unique. WRONG! Everyone my age seems to have named their child Lauren. And so she has the same issues that I did.

Guess I lucked out............Imagine someone naming their child "Genevieve"...........Lord I hated that name , but it was carried down from a long line of Genevieve's..............My grandmother............my mother..............me................my daughter..(husband insisted), and my grandaughter...................Like we really needed 5 Genevieve's in the family..............Just think all you Susan's could have had my name........

I had a cousin Suzanne......she got Sue, and Suzie.

I'm Susan Mary (waving hi to Mary!).  My brother called me Sucille B. DeMille, Susan the Ape Face, and A Boy Named Sue.  My brother is quite brilliant, very creative, and a typical older brother.  :-)

One of my best friends is also a Susan so she's known as Delaware Susan and I'm Baltimore Susan.  My family now calls me Sue or Suzy, but I'm known as Suz or Susan to friends and business acquaintances.

No Daves amongst my family or friends, though.  How did I ever escape the DaveWave?

My BFF in Australia is Susan, we have been friends over 40 years and she was always Sue but she moved to a new state a couple of years ago and changed herself to Susan.  I find it really hard to call her Susan cause she's Sue to me but I'm trying very hard to honor her wishes, today is her birthday and she turns 60, then I have another close friend who is also Susan but she's Suzi to me and Sue to everyone else and she's 65 so I guess it is a generational name and yes both of them are awsome and amazing friends, I am a lucky girl!!!

Enjoyful - Also a Susan Mary. My parents are John and Mary and my brother is John, so Susan was actually a pretty exotic choice.

Suzieq- My bday is Sept 23 and I also exhibit mostly Libran traits.

Susans are like Mary Poppins - practically perfect in every way Kiss.
