menses again?

Options

I finished chemo about a year a half ago, and I promptly went through what we, my doc and I, thought was menopause; my FSH was 99.5 and the hot flashes and night sweats went on for months.  I started to bleed again late last month and seemed A LOT like a period.  Went to my doc and she was worried about cancer of the uterus or ovaries; however, my FSH level came back as a 21.5, which is back in the menses' range (big time!).  I'm about to go have a biopsy done along with an ultrasound.  I'm 43 and I'm hoping it's just my period returning (of course, I have to worry more about the estrogen then), but I was wondering if anyone else had been through anything like this.

Thanks for lending me your ear!  :)

Sammy, the FSH level seems like a good sign ... hoping it's just your period. Were/are you on Tamoxifen?

I'm 43, too, and my period started 9 months after finishing chemo.  My oncologist said it may or may not come back, and he was not concerned that it did come back.  I still have hot flashes every now and then even with having my periods.  Maybe that's due to the Tamoxifen?  I've had 3 regular periods so far, and things seem like before BC.

    Hi Sammy,

My period started again about 9 months after chemo as well.  I was surprised as I had been having the hotflashes and all of the other menopause fun.   There was no doubt it was my period so having a biopsy/ultrasound or any other testing was never a consideration.

FYI, I now get Lupron shots every three months so I don't get my period any more.

Best of luck to you.  I'm sure everything is fine!

    Diane
