Mary, glad that your daughter is recovering.

If it's any consolation, Trump mostly sells his name to properties. He doesn't really develop them anymore.

Interesting, over years, a group of women come to know each other, support each other, learn whensomeone needs help, and form friendships.  Real friendships.

"Peer review" as been a well known aspect of BC.org.  Women checking threads to see if someone is experiencing something in her treatment, and if she can be of any help, with information about her own experience.  In the Spring of 2011, it seems, many women came on to the board with very absolute statements about "the medical industry?" against any kind of chemotherapy, and very negative about many of the procedures that have helped other women who post on this site.

I'm thinking, of the "Don't Do IT" thread attacking any kind of chemotherapy.  Not surprising, many of the women who have been posting on BC.org for years, also sometimes post on this thread.  It seems this argument in FAVOR of chemotherapy, based on individual situations, was seen as "bullying, policing, censoring" and more.

It is easy to ignore a thread on the Forum: Growing Our Friendships After Treament."  If someone doesn't like the jokes, recipes, pet stories, camaraderie, FRIENDSHIP shared on a thread, then it seems obvious to ignore it.  IF a thread appears in a TREATMENT FORUM - and an individual feels it is important to add information to that thread - especially if someone is attacking a treament that saved her life, and the lives of many of her friends, I can understand a feeling of responsibility to share her experience.

That's Life - all you've done is attack whenever you have posted on this thread. You are attacking friendship, women who like each other, share information, sometimes disagree, and LEARN from each other.

Thanks Blue, for your long post.  I'm done with this subject now too.  Going outside to pick a bunch of Sugar snap peas, and sun gold tomatoes for lunch.  Hope all are having a cooler sunny day.  CS

Mary .. great news about your daughter.  If the pain is lessening that means there are no dry sockets.  Yay!

Barbara .. I know you travel a lot on your job .. and it is so hard on everyone.  Tim is gone about 75-80% of the time and it can get stressful for both of us.  Hugs buddy.

Thanks, Bren - we're only going to be in the 80's - and in the 50's at night. Big Boomers yesterday really cooled it down.

I too Love, Desiderata.  Had to smile, as when I noted it to the poster who uses part of it as her "tag line" on another thread - I was told to "stop bullying"  - hey, I meant, I LIKE THE POEM.  Jeeeez...don't go having good intentions when "bullying" is expected.

    Hope Murphy comes home....

Anne, I hope your cat comes back

That's life.. must you always argue? with every single post?  Everyone seems to be your enemy.   i didn't want to say anything and haven't... but honestly,..?  I know you have it rough but responding with negativity makes it harder on YOU to deal with the cards you've been dealt.. Life if not fair sometimes and if often too short to not give to others... to contribute positively to life in general.   from one stage 4 to another.

    Best of luck.

thats-life ... would you please consider that maybe you are here doing exactly what you are accusing others of.

Calling Linda 'Bugs Bunny; rather than her name  ... "I will let you get back to your frivolities" ..." take off your boxing gloves and you will find that you wont get half as much attention as you do at present ...or is it the attention you want".   Snarky and belittling and accusations.  None of this contributes to a kind and respectful atmosphere does it?

'Board domination'" for years ... who told you that?  This thread and the alternative threads both are only a small ... tiny ... corner of BCO.  The real important stuff takes place elsewhere on the board.

The members of this thread do not dominate this board ... nor do we wish to.  We do just exactly what you do.  We visit our friends and review the active topics and comment if our individual interests and experiences warrant it.  I haven't been to the alternative threads because I simply am not interested in them.  Those here who do have the interest go read and comment.  It is not a group thing ... it is an individual thing.

If your friends get emotional and start shouting at somebody to Shut Up and Go Away it's because some meanie is pushing their buttons.  If any of us ever gets emotional or upset it's because we are evil and mean ... how convenient.

It saddens me to see BCO given 1 star ratings all over some eruptions on what are actually very small and easily avoidable threads on this board.  How anybody who has been nurtured through their breast cancer experience on any of the diagnosis or treatment threads could then turn around and stick that knife in BCOs back is beyond my comprehension.  It seems to me like visiting someone's home, eating their food, drinking their booze, and then pooping on the carpet just because you didn't like the dessert.

Now ... if you would be interested in joining in our rather mundane but sometimes amusing conversations please pull up a chair and do so.

What WR said!  Thank you, WR.  Thank you apple.  Thank you Cindy.  And thanks to all the wonderful women here who are embracing me and helping me through my SECOND round with breast cancer and my upcoming BMX and recon surgery.  I was used as an example on one of the alt/holistic threads (now deleted or locked, I can't remember) -- someone over there accused someone here of celebrating me getting my breasts cut off.  I still resent that.  There is history here, and friendship, and longstanding ties of love and shared suffering.  No-one was celebrating my surgery -- they were celebrating my decision and the peace that my decision gave, is giving, and will give me.  They were celebrating that I will be disease-free and have a tiny, tiny chance of recurrence.  These women -- long-time members and new members both -- have been supportive and loving and caring and giving.  They are the reason that I am not heavily medicated and hiding in the basement with terror over what is about to happen to me.  They are the reason I can go work and walk through every day and know that there are dozens of caring arms to catch me if I should fall.

So, if someone wants to join us, pull up a chair and tell us what you're eating.  Or want to eat.  Or what your pets are doing.

And now I'm off to my CT scan so that my PS can look at my blood vessels for suitability for DIEP.

    Later ...

    L

    Another morning another mud wrestle!!!

I am sad today, very very sad.  It seems that all over the world, evil gnomes are creeping into my fellow BC sufferers' house and forcing women around the world to read threads about stuff they find offensive and even to write posts or start arguments. It would also appear that the evil gnomes have disabled the ignore button on many women's computers.  This makes me sad, very very sad---haven't we had enough cr@p?  Why are the gnomes forcing us to have more stress and conflict in our lives?  Bad Bad Gnomes!!!!

So I ask you, What to do about the gnomes?  Personally, I am not having any issues with the evil gnomes. I have never forced at gnome-knife point to read things I don't have interest in or to send snarky mean spirited posts to the board.   Gnomes have not taken over my computer or forced me to write mean posts nor have they disabled my ignore button.

What am I doing right that is warding off the gnomes?  Well I do have two excellent cats (and Anne I am so very sorry about your MIA cat---I hope he's just found himself some girlfriend and will be home soon) whom I often see leaping on things I can't see --- I suspect that the cats are squishing the gnomes who are wearing their invisibility hat(e)s while trying to infiltrate my house.

But otherwise, what do I do that is warding off the gnomes?  I eat lots of chocolate and I drink red wine, well I drink white some times in the summer because its refreshing and of course, don't forget the gin bubbles!!!

Not a clue.  Down with Gnomes!!!!!!  Up with Ignore!!!

Besides, Ignore makes the 6 pages go by so quickly since much of it is on IGNORE!!!

oh almost forgot---last night's dinner was supposed to be ratatouille but then I thought the monsters might starve while I got it together.  So I baked a squash/tomato gratin in the oven (topped with chevre) and then fried the eggplant (salted and squished first) in walnut oil with garlic .  Served pretty much at room temp on top of millet (DH is on a gluten free kick sigh).  For the monsters I add one egg fried in the dregs of the walnut oil.

Tonight will be a PNW version of  salad nicoise with salmon subbing in for the tuna.  I have the most adorable little purple potatoes. . . . .

    Good luck, Libby!

Anne, I so hope Murphy comes home -- I know how hard this waiting is (my boyfriend lives in the Catskills and his beautiful indoor cat -- my "step-cat" -- got outside one cold and rainy night early in December, and was unseen for 4 days, while we plastered pictures on telephone poles, lit a candle, hoped and prayed, left a trail of unwashed clothes with "scent of Daddy" outside the house, tried to make peace with the possibility of her "joining the food chain" among the bears and such -- and on the 4th night she reappeared on the doorstep!).

BarbaraA, a sucky job sucks!  Hugs to you!

Mary, so glad your daughter is feeling better.  Hey, I work in the Gramercy Park area!  I can walk with you!  There are all kinds of walking tours in NYC, though I've never joined one, so my only recommendations would be something I googled!  I'll PM you...

Good morning everyone!!  Woke up and then went over and had coffee with my retired teacher friend - we try to do this at least twice a week.

Came back to pages and pages of new stuff - WOW

Ann - hope that Murphy is ok.  I lost my male cat for 3 days and was in a panic only to find him hiding in the basement of the house next door.  He doesn't go into that house anymore Laughing

I haven't figured out dinner yet - guess the first step is to go to the freezer and find something to unthaw but then again I won't be home until late tonight as I am going to ride my horse.

Tongue outTo make Gin Bubbles, you need:

Good gin---the hand crafted small batch type.  Cascade Mountain Gin, 12 Bridges. Not the Bombay Saphire--you want something with more delicate and complex flavors.

    Seltzer water or club soda.

    Ice cubes

A hot day or what passes for it.Cool

Dump ice in water glass.  Add 1 or 2 shots of your good gin.  Top off with club soda. drink.  Drink repeatedly to ward off mad bad gnomes.

    **********************************************

We came up with this after we did a vist to a distillery in Portland and did tastings.  I grew up not terribly found of gin--thought it tasted like chewing a pine branch.  But at the tastings I discovered it doesn't have to taste like a pine branch!  We bought a number of varieties of gin.  I didn't want to mix it with tonic because I thought that would muck up the taste of the gin.   As one can't drink a glass of gin (even over ice) and still expect to make dinner, I tried tonic.

DH has given it two thumbs up.  He was surprised that what is basically gin and water would taste good.  I think the key is the type of gin used.

I have been "exploring" and tried a dash of rhubarb bitters but it didn't really add anything. However a dash of rhubarb bitters into a glass of club soda isn't half bad.  Oh and I think the gnomes HATE rhubarb. . . . Innocent

I've been busy clearing oak tree branches in my lower field.  I hate having to drive through the branches to mow .. I'm always afraid a bug or tic will get on me, so I started sawing down all the lower branches. I'm insane! It's 96 degrees out! There are about 15 trees that I have to cut and I managed to get only 3 done. Guess it's my new project.  Best left for early morning though!

3Mon .. I'm not sure I would want soda water in my gin.  I actually used to prefer it on the rocks with a little lime for flavor.

But a G&T sounds good now ... I'm hot, sweaty and tired!

    hugs all round,

BinVa I agree with the low brances and ticks. Last week we too our cocker for her grooming, and found out she had a very large tick between her eyes. We never say it in her fur. Poor thing we have no idea how long it had been there.

3Mon--Bombay Sapphire's not GOOD gin?? Who knew? Tongue out We use it for our martinis, but I really should get some small batch gin for other drinking. I't like bourbon, I guess. Jack Daniels suits me fine on the rocks, but there are times when I'll splurge on the Woodford's or Basil Hayden!

No Murphy yet. I'm tearful. Got busy with cleaning the fridge, and Miko (my other furbaby) was only steps away. We don't have houses close here in the mountains, but I have checked what I can. And he's no wanderer, but some big critter (think mountain lion) could have scared him someplace. I put a notice out on our neighborhood community forum and expect to get thoroughly flamed about letting a cat go outside when you live in the mountains. I know, I know, but it's worked okay for 8 years so far. And poor Murph needs to eat. Granted, he's a fat boy and could stand to lose a few, but too fast and he'll go into liver failure...Got to go get busy again.

Thanks for the support, everyone. It means a lot.

Jancie if you happen to be on facebook - you can simply copy and pasted pictures into these boxes we write in...

other wise, click on the tree.  upload the address of the hosted picture, it has to be on photobucket or something, not your hard drive. just click the dimensions link.. it will automatically size it for you and then hit "Insert".
