Hi ladies~ I am hoping for some input....I am having terrible problems with night sweats. My husband found some links for products that claim to keep you cool at night. I was wondering if anyone has tried them and how they worked out.

There were some different types of wicking sheets, cool pillows and wicking pj's . Apparently Dr. Oz did a whole show about it and recommended some of the products on drinights.com

There was also a site cooljamaz.com that sells some stuff too.

Any thoughts???

I have sheets that are cotton but feel like rayon that definitely help. I got them in Pigeon Forge at the Three Bears Store.

Shelley, you should check out the following thread...lots of good info here.  In case my link doesn't work correctly, it's a thread in Hormonal Therapy called "HOT FLASH FORUM."

Shelley: I'm a loyal fan of the chillow. I bought one of those molded pillows which claims to be cool but although it's better than a regular pillow, it doesn't stay cool all night. I put the chillow on top of that with the flocked side uppermost. If I'm really hot I lay my head on it for a while, otherwise, I just wait until the underlying pillow is cold, then push the chillow aside, but within reach in case I need it again during the night. In the morning, I fold the Chillow in two and pop it into the fridge so it's ready for the next time.

I don't know anything about the sheets and pj's. If one is hot, why even wear pj's?

I tried a chillow but couldn't sleep on it.  I like really soft, squishy pillows and the chillow just didn't do it for me.  And it is heavy!

Yeah, it's not really comfortable to sleep on, but it really has a great cooling effect.

Another thing I use is a homemade chillow. Very simple to make ... I took a knee-high and filled it with rice (or you could use flaxseed), then knotted the end. I keep this in the freezer. Sometimes I use this instead of the Chillow. I put it on top of my regular pillow. I first grip it in the middle and shake it, so the rice collects at the two ends. Then when you position your neck, it comes around and hugs each side, sort of like those travel pillows you see. I've been using this over a year and it's probably time to make a new one with fresh rice.

Soma stores have hot flash pajamas - I think they are made with bamboo. I bought some and they do keep you cooler and soak up the moisture.

There are also hot flash pajamas made with CoolMax.  Athletic clothes will have the wicking technology but they are usually kind of tight.  It does work though.

    sheets are on my list.

shelley - I use a layering system, sheet, fleece blanket, top blanket.  When I get a flash I move them all off and turn on the remote control timer fan for 15 or 30 minutes.  As I cool down I pull on the sheet, then the fleece.  I wear a silk sleep shirt.  The fan saves me.

MaryNY - I so wish I could sleep without clothes on but I have a 16 year old stepson living here and we have a swamp cooler so our bedroom door needs to stay open so we get the cold air in there.  The other reason to keep the door open is so that the cats and dogs can sneak up on the bed while dh is sleeping Laughing

It sure was nice being in a hotel last night - the clothes were OFF!

Can't sleep with no clothing on around here either. I do have a ceiling fan that runs all night.  I know I saw some bamboo sheets at Target so will head out today to get some. There is also a Soma so I will look into the pjs. Althought the Chillow sounds great in theory, I think that I will find it uncomfortable if it is very hard and heavy. I did find something by Outlast that is a cooling pillow case that I think I will order (google it for more info).  I do love my pillow and don't really want to replace it so I think the cover would worth a try.

From the other thread I ordered the Menopret and will try that. I had been using Effexor and it was working great for me but was just making me too tired during the day even though I was taking it at night so I had to go off of it.Since then I have been miserable!!  Will also buy some Acai Berry capsules at the store later today to try as well.

The whole situation really stinks because I am such a summer person and for the first time in my life I can't wait for winter!!!! LOL!

shelley - I have a ceiling fan too but adding the remote controlled timer stand fan at the foot of the bed makes a huge difference. Right now Costco has a great stand fan on sale for $30.

Shelley, then take the Effexor in the morning!!

Whoever is sleeping on silk, that is VERY hot to sleep on!! Or satin!

You can get all the good sheets you want, but it's the underlying cover on your mattresses that you're really lying on....it's probably polyester, too. I have an expensive mattress that is supposed to have the wicking effect of athletic clothes on it's top fabric, but beneath it must be foam as I am WAY too hot!!

A foam mattress or topper will be too hot as well. I have rotted pillows with how much I sweat!

I have resorted to sleeping naked (for the first time in 53 years!) on TOWELS. It's the only way I can handle the heat. I have an overhead fan as well as one at the foot of my bed directed right up my body. I have a light matlasse throw to use if I get chilled. (You know, you sweat then the sweat gets chilly....)

Towels have been the only resource that hasn't failed me yet...sigh. One for my body and one on my pillow. Try it.

The Effexor just made me sleepy all the time. I took it at night, slept like a log but then spaced out all day too...no good.

I went into Soma today..the only pjs they had were very sexy!! LOL!!! Not my style. I am looking for just a capri and t-shirt set. I think I may hit Target today and try and find those bamboo sheets and see how that works out before I start looking for other pj's. I am sleeping now in an oversized lightweight t-shirt and underwear so that will have to do for now.

I got the Acai capsules and ordered the Menopret. Fingers crossed!!

    Thanks for all the tips!!

I thought the chillow was helpful but not amazing. I ended up putting it away in the winter, but took it out again recently when it got really hot.  It's just sort of wrinkly and uncomfortable and has a funny smell (in my opinion).

I did buy some specially designed menopause nightgowns from a company I found online. at the time I thought they were great, but have moved over to just a very minimal nightgown - tank top style, and short and seem to like that better.
Never tried the sheets - that was too much of an investment for me to make without someone else telling me they worked first.

I did see on here somewhere a link to this item:  Hot Girl Pearls

Somebody saw it on tv and said it was supposed to work, but that's more for 'day wear' than 'sleep wear.' But maybe it will help somebody on here. If you get them, post a review (and maybe some photos with you wearing them) so we can all know how they work.

    Good luck everyone.

    Amy

hi Shelley! i just started taking Effexor and it really has helped with the hot flashes and pretty much has diminished the night sweats for me.  Although beforehand, the less clothes the better and a good fan really helps!
