My family and I are trekking across the country to Lego land in a few weeks.

While the kids will love the aquarium, water park, and LL...I was wondering if there is anything you'd recommend that is "must see" or "must do" while in the area???

Local flavor is one of the things my husband and I love best!

Thanks in advance!

Tonya

Take a drive down the pacific coast highway through the La Jolla scenic drive

down thru the beach towns to Pt. Loma and Cabrillo National Park, then downtown

to Old Town San Diego , the USS Midway, Coronado with the Hotel Del Coronado, and you can't

miss the San Diego Zoo and Balboa Park museums...

Thanks SoCal...we've lived in the Philippines for a couple years and went on the USS Midway then....lots of fun. :)

We planned on a scenic drive so your destination suggestions are wonderful!!  Thank you so much.

You might try driving inland to Temecula and visiting all the wineries!  Beautiful country.

The Zoo and Balboa Park are a must see!  And the Mexican food in Old Town is fabulous!

    Have a great trip!

i used to live directly across from a small hotel in Carlsbad (actually had a La Jolla address, but didn't live in a La Jolla type house.. just a small one with other students.  Spread equally, our rent share was about 185 each, plus some for utilities)

anyway.. I'd just walk down the driveway of the hotel and find the path that led directly to widest, most gorgeous beach.. up the way there was an excellent tide pool.. so fun to observe. it took me 2 minutes to get down to the beach.  this was in 1980 before the big immigration of new Californians.   Ciopinno on the beach was the best meal ever.. a styrofoam cup, a piece of bread, a napkin and a plastic spoon for about $3.50.

    Apple,

I lived on the beach in Panama City for a couple years.  I loved it.  White sand, azure water.  I can't wait to see Carlsbad beach.  We're staying in an Embassy Suites (I think, maybe Homewood)..whatever is closest to Legoland.  I found 5 day passes to Legoland, Aquarium, and water park for the price of ONE DAY....

    My kids are psyched!

I'll take pics for you of the beach!!

Thank you all for your input!

We had a great week in SD.  Love the San Marcos area!!  Carlsbad beach was awesome...and CASA GUAD ROCKED!!  We loved it.  (Unlike Norte in Carlsbad village....that is NOT good Mexican food.  lol)

Thanks again ladies...I really appreciate it.

    Lisa,

I don't ever think I've been to a place that didn't even have standing room at the bar!!  lol  And they had SKINNY margarittas...SKINNY...buwhahaha....I LOVED LOVED LOVED that.

I also love how the places out there put calorie/fat content on menu items.  That is so awesome!

    Thanks again.....loved it!
