    Thanks blue.  I am sure she will be better soon.  I am off to give her some mashed sweet pototoes. Then I have an appt with my BS--oh the joy! 

    ETA--thanks for the clarification Mary!  I will check her mouth.  Your poor son--how scary for you and him!

    the sockets should be the 'holes temporarily left in the gums'.. sorry to be so graphic.  I had emergency 4 teeth at once surgery.. i had an hour to get it done before my student benefits for insurance ended for the summer one year.

    a little of that nitrous oxide.. well quite a lot actually and I was done.. walked home alone.  oh, to be 20 again.

    I had nitrous for the first time last week.  I highly recommend it!  Wheeeeeee!

    E .. I had that once .. and it made me want to talk and talk ... which was hard to do at the dentists!  It might be something we should consider serving at the BCO Bar&Grill. Ha!  Speaking of the BCO B&G, I wish we could get Barbara's husband to play for us.  We need a house band!

    Mary, hugs to you and your daughter.  If the pain gets worse instead of improving, call the oral surgeon it could be a sign of dry sockets, which as Bren mentioned are very painful.

    Hi all, just my 2 cents here.  A dry socket is when the blood clot dislodges from the hole where the tooth was.  I had one when I had my teeth out.  They pack some gauze in it and the pain goes away immediately. Who'd a thought!! Hope your daughter feels better soon.   joann

    Yep .. I had a dry socket with one of my wisdom teeth .. and it hurt like hell.  Like sewingnut said, the doc can repack the socket and the relief is almost immediate.

    If the clot dislodges, you have a raw nerve exposed, which is why it hurts so much. Repacking it seals the nerve off again and lets the healing resume.

    I had Versed with my wisdom teeth removal. I don't remember much, but they told me afterwards that I was quite chatty and thought everything was very funny; as in when they told me I was going to hear the drill because they were going to have to bust up the tooth to get it out, I laughed and said, "OK! Just save the pieces." They weren't sure if I was serious,so they presented me with a Dixie cup with tooth fragments when I was more lucid. I was like, "Ick, you can throw those away."

     covertanjou.....my daughter had hers out a few years back and she slept for much of the time during the next two days after surgery. Could have been from the pain meds they had her taking.  Lots of mashed potatoes, applesauce, jello, pudding and ice cream were eaten. Hope your daughter feels better soon.

    Mary ((((hugs))))) to you and your daughter.  I had two wisdom teeth out 30 years ago and I am not going to talk about it.  Fortunately, there was a good outcome after a while and I learned a lot -- and they are gone, meaning I don't have to worry about them again.  Soft, tasty things are best -- she might as well get some pleasure out of the experience!

    Changing the subject a bit:

    Yeesh, the e-mail scammers are getting pathetic. Got one allegedly from the "Federal Bureau of Investigation" with nothing but an attachment and the subject "OFFICIAL NOTICE ( Read The Message Attached For Detail )". I googled that and the attachment is a variation on the old "we have LOTS of money in your name, and all we need you to do is give us your checking account information so we can clean you out-erm, deposit all that money into your account" scam. Except in this "FBI" version, you have to cough up taxes on it or face charges for "consignment abandonment". Riiiiight. I'll get right on that.

    Mary/Covertanjou -- I see everyone beat me to the "dry socket" story -- I had that when my wisdom were removed at age 19.  Ouch!  My advice ever since then has been, "You should always keep feeling better every day after a procedure.  If your pain starts to increase, call the dentist (doctor) right away -- don't try to tough it out.  Let them tell you it's normal -- don't tell yourself that."

    Because, trying not to be a baby at age 19, when my "sockets" started hurting more 2 or 3 days afterwards, I thought "oh well, it hasn't been too painful yet, I'm not going to be a baby now -- this is probably normal."  Wrong!

    That is so sad about Dr. Servan-Schreiber. I didn't realize he was so young:

    Servan-Schreiber's near two-decade exploration of the science of cancer was a personal and professional journey that took him from the verge of death to good health and back again twice before ending in his death Sunday at a hospital near his family's home in Normandy. He was 50.

    hillck.. i think you get a notice (computer generated) from BCO when you have a post reported.  I had that happen just a few days ago.. most likely from the holistic thread or one of those.  I just waited a bit and the mods reinstated my 'privileges' and apologized.  I was unable to send PMs.  you can go to the bottom of the forum list and create a topic and tell the mods there.
