    Hi everyone,

Eight years ago I was diagnosed with Stage 3A BC on my 41st birthday.   7.5cm x 5cm tumour (IDC), one large positive lymph node.   Lots of treatment.   Lots of fear.

I can hardly believe it has been eight years - sometimes it feels like it almost happened to someone else.   My first surgeon treated me like I was already dead.   I was in despair and terribly frightened.   Used to lie awake at night planning my funeral  :-)

BUT - I have had no further problems.   I just wanted to post to give encouragement to newbies.  I have heard of many Stage 3 women who are just like me, some of whom are many years out - I think a lot move on from support boards so we don't always hear from them.  I lurk here a lot but don't post much.

Wishing you all long and happy lives.

    Love MelG

Thank you MelG for this post of inspiration as well as the rest of you wonderful survivors. I am a newbie here and it is so comforting to know that there are so many people celebrating healthy years regardless of what stage. I am embarking on the chemo stage soon. I plan to focus on getting well and getting through this. It means a lot that you took the time to come back here on these posts and check in.

Thats great.  I'm having a bad freak out day.   Radiation is getting on my nerves and all the ladies that I've met tell their stories (stage 1 no chemo)  Stage 1   Stage II.    I keep my stage private, i treat it like my weight.     Thanks and congrats!   Any words of wisdom how to deal with this mentally a little bit better. I've been so strong until now.   Maybe it's the daily radiation, such a process to get there and home and it's in your face everyday.     I love hearing stories like yours.

    Thanks again

Congrats Mel!!!! It's so nice to hear stories like this, it gives us hope.

Orland, Yes rads is so tiring, but i couldn't wait to be done. that meant that i was done with active treatment and i just kept thinking that everyday on the ride there. One day i was so tired i just didn't want to go and i was burned pretty bad. I called and told them i wanted to stay home and rest and it wasn't a problem. Maybe you just need a day off like i did.  It will be over before you know it and then you can go on to living life. I hope this helps, and as far as what stage you are , it's nobodys business but yours. Best of luck!!!Smile

It isn't just the newbies who benefit from your post.  It is very nice for all of us to read of your good news.  I remember the feelings you are describing.  I even revert to those feelings from time to time.  8 years is something to celebrate, big time.  Thanks,  G.

Many thanks for sharing this with us.  The feelings you describe are so familiar to me and to lots of others, I'm sure.  For me they are not 24/7 like they used to be but unfortunately they rear their ugly head often enough!  How encouraging and uplifting to read your post. It's beyond difficult to get this diagnosis anyway, but, oh, not on your birthday!  Wasn't sure if today was your birthday or not, but whenever it is you really have reason to celebrate. Thanks for sharing!!
