Morning Peeps!
Already hot here .. and rising.
Athena .. best to stay indoors in this weather.
Blue .. have a good day, don't overdo.
Don't know what we have going today. Maybe a ride to the lake or Meadows of Dan.
hugs all,
Bren

Good morning!
Wow - just Wow! I read a couple of threads this morning and my jaw hit the ground.
DH is off mountain biking today so I will be off horse riding today with a friend as my trainer is out of state at a horse show.
Funny, I love cleaning other people's houses - just not my own! Yet, I really like having a clean house so I force myself to do it. This is why I look for good short cuts that cut down on the energy that I have to expend since I have aged so much thanks to BC.
I would much rather clean house than work in the yard. Does anyone have a tip on what to do about ants in a flower bed? I have to be careful as I have herbs growing in it but I can't stand those buggers on my arms, legs, etc.
-
well, just to put a wee bit of a good word in for ants, they're probably eating baby aphids
If they're 'the red biting kind, I'd just RUN in the other direction!!! But if they don't bite you, they're probably munching on goo left by aphids, black fly, those "horrible" thingies
-
I have a way to get rid of ant hills in the lawn - and that might make them leave your flowers alone. Put some liquid dish detergent on the ant holes, turn on the hose and soak the area really really well. If it doesn't work, do it again another day. On the other hand, the ants on my peonies make the flowers bloom. I don't know why that it, but it is. Maybe they are providing a similar service to your flowers.
-
lassie11 I remember the ants all over the peonies and agree my mom always said they were needed.
I never thought of using liquid dish detergent. I like that idea. I wonder if it would work on the red ants. We are always fighting the hills from these little buggers.

Wow, just heard Amy Winehouse died. I guess I am not surprised but she was an excellent singer. Too bad.
-
It's so sad when young people die.
-
Very sad and tragic about Amy Winehouse. Amazing voice.
-
That is sad. Not unexpected, really.
I love ants - even though they are nearly impossible to get rid of at times. They are wonderful little creatures, though.
-
I loved ants till we moved to Florida. These little fire ants are nothing like the ones we had in Ill. Their bite has some kind of poison in it that is terrible. I'm so allergic to their bite it's not funny. One bite and I'll break out over my entire body.
-
I really like Amy Winehouse's music .. such a tragedy to lose such a talented person at such a young age.
We had a great day in the Meadows of Dan on the Blue Ridge Pkwy. The weather up in the mountains was perfect .. and it was great to get out of the house. We stopped and the candy factory and got some really great chocolates. Yum!
Guess I need to read and catch up.
hugs,
Bren
Maybry Mill in Meadows of Dan

-
Bren - lovely!
I love the Shenandoah/Blue Ridge area.
-
Shenandoah is gorgeous and about 1 1/2 hours north east of us. The area we went to was about 30 miles north of us .. not far at all. I got my favorite malted milk balls at the candy factory! Now I'm washing them down with a cup of coffee. yahoo!
Bren
-
How pretty Bren. Was it any cooler up there?
-
Barbara .. It was lots cooler up there, plus it started raining when we got to the parkway.
How was your day .. did you sit by the pool? I am so envious of your tan!
hugs,
Bren

THANK YOU for the picture - I'm going to try to print it out, to paint!!! I LOVE LOVE IT.
Just got a sweet email from thenewme. She's fine, don't want to say much more "in public."

I also love peonies, and they are one of the few flowers which are FERTILIZED by ants, instead of bees.
So sad about AW, such a talented, troubled woman....
-
Bren, my tan is not that great. It takes a lot of sitting in the sun for me to tan. I used to be able to burn after an hour but living here, it takes about 4 hours now. So I take limited doses. Today, I maybe had 30 minutes, off and on. So I tan but slowly and safely I hope. I do use sunscreen if I have to be out for longer than 30 minutes.
-
Morning girls, or should I say evening. I'm reeling from being attacked. Maybe it's time I left these boards too. It's going to be 21 today - lovely Brisbane winter weather

Sue
-
Sue, just stay here!
-
susieq
Please stay. Don't let them get you down.
-
Susie .. please don't leave. I'm sorry somone was mean to you .. please stay .. what can we get you from the BCO Bar & Grill? Perhaps a Bloody Mary for breakfast?
Barbara .. I was a total beach babe growing up .. I lived in the sun (San Diego), and had my first of many skin cancers at age 29. I don't wear sunscreen as it irritates my skin, but I limit my exposure to the time it takes me to mow a field. Usually about 1/2 hour to 45 minutes. Luckily, the house is surrounded by a huge oak and chestnut trees, so lots of shade.
I use Neutrogena tanning cream on my legs to give them a little color. Nothing too dark or extreme, but at least they aren't snow white. ha!

Susie -- It seems there are a few relatively new folks who are determined to drive away anyone who dares to post something they don't agree with -- and impolitely at that.
Most of us have felt the brunt, but the best thing is to do the duck thing -- let it roll off your back, and then, consider the source.
Brisbane winters sound pretty darn decent!

Thanks girls, I'm not going anywhere. This site has been a life saver for me. It's a pity there are some people with anger issues that attack anything that moves. Now I'm being accused of not living in Australia because I posted once that I was not from here. So I was born in NZ and have lived here for 48 years but I still identify as a Kiwi - so what. At least I wasn't up at 2am upsetting people. However, I will be missing in action for 6 weeks shortly, but I expect I will not be able to stay away, just checking in less often. Only 2 and a half weeks until we go away - eeek!!!
-
SUE,
Please join me, and I expect several others - in rising to our respective feet and YELLING:
"HAVE YOU NO SENSE OF DECENCY!!!"
I wish I had a recording of Lillian Hellman's testimony too - might lower my blood pressure.
Trying to correct "opinions" which are called "facts" is called "bullying" and "censorship." Back to 1956.
-
Thanks Sunflowers - I know I'm not a bully and I am happy with me and I have a thick skin

Darn - forgot to save some of my urine this morning to drink with my breakfast, the bloody mary will have to do.
-
I do get upset when Apple is the person being attacked, so I will naturally come to her defence.
-
I hope she hasn't been banned.
-
Apple banned she is one of the most caring people on this BCO site. If she is banned I'm out of here. It has to end all this stuff.
-
how about another link to that review site.. I can't find the link. I had a post removed for suggesting I think that frantic picture posting is an attempt to up the google ratings.. anyway, i don't care. I've never reported any post or poster.
I am not banned tho.
-
Apple just posted not 15 minutes ago on the thyroid/iodine/bc thread - so she's still here

Off to cook DH scrambled eggs - my parsley is growing so well just now.
