ER/PR and HER2 tests required for DCIS?

Hi all,

Recently, I had DCIS on my right breast's lump from the pathology report.

I do not see that ER/PR and HER2 are tested.

Why do ER/PR and HER2 not show up in my pathology report?

Are ER/PR and HER2 tests required?

    sometimes your pathology report is "rushed" to the doc and it takes a bit of time to get the ER/PR HER2 so you could call and ask if your tissue has been sent out or if they will do the testing in house.. My path report said "preliminary" so I knew the results would be later but they don't always note that is' in process.. Take care,

    It's also possible the ER/PR status is expressed in a very cryptic way. It might say something about "prognostic markers" or "estrogen receptors" or "progesterone receptors" and/or something about a percentage of cells. 

    Pure DCIS is not generally tested for HER2.

    I agree it could be hidden in there in other language OR it could be that there is a secondary report to come.

    My initial biopsy for what they thought was DCIS (which did FIND that it was DCIS and some sort of language that said there was no evidence of IDC... which did not actually mean there wasn't IDC) ... found me ER/PR negative and made no mention of HER2 at all.  I don't think they tested for that.  Then I had a lumpectomy and they found that there was, in fact, IDC (invasive cancer) as well as HER2 positive tissue.  So I went from thinking I was Stage 0 to, as it turned out, Stage 2.

    The path group that read my slides did ER and PR but they took a couple extra days. No HER status though.

    It took at least 2 extra weeks for me to find out the results of the ER/PR tests, compared to only 2 days to get the results from my biopsy that I had DCIS. So hang in there! You might be able to get a breast nurse or someone at your DR's office to call you when this results become available.

    Thank you for all your support.

    This week I went to one breast center and ask them why they did not test these.

    and they said it does not need to test for my case.

    I guess that they will get more info from lumpectomy.
