I have the day off today but I did go out briefly at around 6am to get milk. It was like a sauna out there. I just hope members of congress finally get the hint and pass aggressive climate change legislation. This weather is not some liberal consipracy.

    blue, your grandson is gorgeous!

I see we have some new posters!  Welcome everyone!

It is hot again today, but not as humid as yesterday.  We had a huge thunderstorm last night, and that has helped against the humidity.

I am having my husband's family over for a BBQ tomorrow, so I hope it is sunny.  It is my mother-in;law's birthday, so I usually have the family over for a party.

Athena, are you sure the weather is not a conspiracy?  LOL

Well, gee, according to Rush, there is no heat wave.  It is just a vast conspiracy by our government and Al Gore to promote the concept of global warming.

I want what he is smoking, with a Bloody Mary.

Here is an advisory from the National Weather Service re: the DC-Baltimore area:...

    http://www.erh.noaa.gov/er/lwx/

EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 10 AM THIS
MORNING TO 10 PM EDT THIS EVENING...
...EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 10 AM TO 8 PM
    EDT SATURDAY...

    * TEMPERATURE...HIGH TEMPERATURE FRIDAY IN THE LOWER 100S. HIGH
    TEMPERATURE SATURDAY AROUND 100.

    * HEAT INDEX VALUES...115 TO 120.

    PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

AN EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING MEANS THAT A PROLONGED PERIOD OF
DANGEROUSLY HOT TEMPERATURES WILL OCCUR. THE COMBINATION OF HOT
TEMPERATURES AND HIGH HUMIDITY WILL CREATE A DANGEROUS SITUATION
IN WHICH HEAT ILLNESSES ARE LIKELY. DRINK PLENTY OF WATER...STAY

    RELATIVES AND NEIGHBORS.

TAKE EXTRA PRECAUTIONS IF YOU WORK OR SPEND TIME OUTSIDE. WHEN

Blue - he is absolutely adorable.

Still beastly here today. I haven't even checked the latest forecast for today. The deck was wet this morning but whatever rain we had did nothing for the humidity level. How could Al Gore do this to us? What nerve!

ETA our forecast: HEAT INDICES THROUGH SATURDAY EVENING: HIGH TEMPERATURES IN THE 91 TO 96 DEGREE RANGE WILL CONTINUE TO COMBINE WITH HIGH RELATIVE HUMIDITY VALUES TO MAKE FOR OPPRESSIVE HEAT. THIS COMBINATION WILL CREATE A PROLONGED PERIOD OF HEAT INDEX VALUES RANGING FROM 105 TO 115 DEGREES EACH AFTERNOON AND EVENING... STAYING ABOVE 75 DEGREES EACH NIGHT. SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS WILL HAVE THE POTENTIAL TO CREATE BRIEF RELIEF AT TIMES THROUGH SATURDAY EVENING.

Goes on to issue dire warnings to elderly with chronic health conditions - that would be me!

CS, I will be the bartender.  I have a great drink he could try.  It includes urine.  I think he would like it.

A newlywed couple wanted to join a church. The pastor told them, "We have special requirements for new parishioners. You must abstain from sex for one whole month."

The couple agreed and after two-and-a-half weeks returned to the Church. When the Pastor ushers them into his office, the wife is crying and the husband obviously very depressed.

"You are back so soon... Is there a problem?" the pastor inquired.
"We are terribly ashamed to admit that we did not manage to abstain from sex for the required month...." the young man replied sadly.

The pastor asked him what happened.
"Well, the first week was difficult... However, we managed to abstain through sheer willpower. The second week was terrible, but with the use of prayer, we managed to abstain.

However, the third week was unbearable. We tried cold showers, prayer, reading from the Bible...anything to keep our minds off carnal thoughts. One afternoon, my wife reached for a can of paint and dropped it. When she bent over to pick it up, I was overcome with lust and had my way with her right then and there." admitted the man, shame facedly.

"You understand this means you will not be welcome in our church," stated the pastor.
"We know." said the young man, hanging his head, "We're not welcome at Home Depot either."

A bus load of politicians were driving down a country road, when the bus ran off the road and crashed into a tree in an old farmer's field. The old farmer, after seeing what happened, went over to investigate. A few days later, the local sheriff came out looking for the missing politicos, saw the crashed bus, and asked the farmer where all the politicians had gone.
The farmer said, "I buried 'em all... out back."
The sheriff then asked, "Were they ALL dead?"
The old farmer replied, "Well, some of them said they weren't, but you know how them politicians lie."

With all of the insanity that surrounds us, I am going to mix up a concoction of some kind and call it a BCO Lobotomy!  Probably some take on a Hurricane, with just a little fruit for all of the fruitcakes.

See you later at the BCO B&G!

    Giggle fit!!!  Thanks Blue.

Well yesterday the real temp hit 102 here and I heard the heat index reported as 116, over 120 and you don't want to know.  I live surrounded by water and practically in a marsh but not with the heat sources that an urban environment would add.  The worst is over for us, although it will still be hot.  My heart goes out to those of you who are getting the worst of it today.  Stay hydrated!  Maybe we should keep the bar open all day.

Fingers crossed, and I hope I am not jinxing our thread by saying this, BUT....speaking of drinks and toasts and celebrations generally, I am sure you have all noticed that we are on page 443 and moving rapidly along. Should we do anything special to mark the 500th page when we reach it? Maybe we could fill that page with some nice pictures or trade stories about what the thread has meant to us, or sinply come up with a great logo and storefron for the BCO B&G?

(We are also not too far from reaching 250,000 hits!)

I don't even mind our occasional blizzards here ... although Snowmageddon 2010 was a bit much, even for me.

But I'd take Snowmageddon II over the Summer from Hell ...

Ahh geez .. the heat index is already up to 110 and it's not even noon yet.

Happy .. sure hope you aren't walking home from the bus stop today!

If the bar's open, I'm ready for a pina colada.

Tim should be home soon, so we'll have to brave the heat and go to the grocery store.  argghhh.

    hugs to all,

    Bren

PS .. I'd rather shovel snow than go out in this heat!

    Bren,

Nah, DH is going to come get me at the bus stop again.  He's getting home early, so he might even come down to work to get me, although that would be overkill.  I think I can walk across two streets and get to the bus stop (I don't even have to walk blocks, just cross two streets, cut through what used to be a parking lot and cross another street to get to the bus).  Even though the air temperature above all that asphalt and concrete feels like it approximates that of the surface of the sun.  Our official temperature here is taken at the airport, down by the water.  It's much hotter in the concrete canyons.

Me, too.  Shoveling snow sounds pretty good right now.  Or using the snowblower! Laughing

Hi there scuttlers.  I'm paranoid, so I took it down.  Thought you had all seen it.  I can send you a link if you like.  One can't be too careful around here.  Lots of crazies around.

Love the jokes.....made me smile. Your right about the crazies, too! I know we were all talking about our pets quite a few pages back. On Tuesday I went to the pound and adopted a 7 month old Boxes-mix named Roxy. Full of energy, I have a lot of work to do with her. House-training being the big one. Anyone have suggestions?
