My little furbaby, Tara, was meowing to go outside. I let her out for a little, and when I brought her in, the poor kitty was panting! She was so hot!
I am going to fix myself a vodka tonic and try to cool down.
Love the bug letter, CS.
Hello to all my homies!
-
Back when I was a kid......Using the term homies was considered very offensive and racist along with the "N" word. What I found out a couple of years ago is that white kids are calling their white friends "N...." and Homies all of the time now. I can't keep up with what is politically correct anymore.
I used the term hispanic on another forum board and was told that this word was offensive and I should use the term Latino. In the next 5 years it will be something else
Pretty darn sad when I have to quote myself

Ok, for those that may not have understood what I wrote above - let me just make this a super long response and get very detailed so that the response noted above can't be construed except for the purposes in which it was written.
Let's go back to the term "Back when I was a kid" and let's expand that to say "Back when I was a kid more than 30 years ago"
Using the term homies was considered very offensive and racist along with the "N" word -
Did you notice that I used the word "was" - which means in the past - no longer applicable to this day and age - we are no longer talking about the 1970's - we are talking about 40 years later.
I can't keep up with what is politically correct anymore. This statement clearly shows that times have changed and what was considered offensive or politically incorrect is no longer the case because it is now 40 years later. It also clearly states that I am having a hard time figuring out what is ok now versus all of those years ago and the view of the people will change again in the next 40 years.
I used the term hispanic on another forum board and was told that this word was offensive and I should use the term Latino. In the next 5 years it will be something else
Clearly by my own personal example I am telling people that I made the mistake of using the term hispanic to describe legal or illegal people from Mexico and I could have easily used the term "wet backs for the illegals" but I was trying to be respectful and use the term hispanic and for that they called me down and said to use the term Latino. What will happen 5 years from now? What will the hispanics/mexicans/wet backs want to be referred to then at that time? You can't even use the term Mexican even though they are from Mexico because I can only assume they are embarrassed about where they came from so we have to use the word Hispanic which has now translated to Latino.
I have read my original post several times again and I see NOWHERE that I have made any reference to anyone being a racist. For anyone to take what I originally wrote and accuse me of saying they are racist is overboard to say the least.
This subject is closed in my mind. I will not respond to it again.

Other thread's been locked. Makes the bug letter even more apropos.
-
GANGSTAS. ooooohh...this could be fun? Do we get to wear spats? A little hot for now, but could be fashionable in the wintah here near Bawsthan.
I love that letter Ann, check it on Snopes - lotsa variations - but the Pullman car one is my favorite

I don't know about being a "homie" - is that on the thread Definitions for Newbies? And libturd? Nah, I don't think I'd want that one either. Knee Jerk LIberal might be ok??? Will think about what label I'd like to wiggle in for a while, so many to choose from. But, if we get to wear SPATS, I wanna be a gangstah...
Cold iced tea, please!
-
Cute story Sunflowers! I liked cycle-path's analogy as well. Interesting post about hijacking threads, which seems to happen often and they go off track.

tee, hee...locked ater The Bug Letter. too good.
-
I have had an extremely lazy day: planning a trip to New York. We are plannng something for the
beginning of the August. I hope it isn't too hot!!
Any suggestions for hotels?
-
I am drinking iced tea but may move to something stronger.
-
the thread was NOT LOCKED AT THE REQUEST OF THE ORIGINAL POSTER. Hope everyone notices that.
-
I'm craving chocolate! Must mean my body needs it, right?
-
CS, I have to confess . . . I didn't get the flies/lightbulb joke either. But you inspired me to go re-read it, thinking really hard and parsing each word and -- I finally got it!! I'm laughing!!!
Thanks, homegirl!

And since the OP was talking about threads being hijacked, and her thread was then hijacked and locked.... in 4 hours flat!
-
BTW, Bren
That REALLY happened - the guy who got the letter with the note "send him the bug letter" made it VERY, VERY public. Variations of it exist, but the core is TRUE. Still chuckling that the Moderators chose to lock the thread. Guess too much truth hurts?????
-
Homies - another round, please.
Blue, I'm craving a lobotomy, I say.
-
Mary, just saw your post about your NYC trip. How fun!! I used to like staying at the Milburn on the Upper West Side. Very nice people, and a great location.
-
Could I have my lobotomy with a gin and tonic, extra lime?
-
Many of my jokes are sponge jokes. They take a while to soak in.
As for homies. I don't think it's insulting or racist. Just an odd way to refer to a bunch of grown women.
-
I'd recommend the Regency and the Marriott Marquis (depending on what you want). The Mercer hotel is supposed to be excellent.
-
Have any of you heard of The Surrey? It looks really nice and reasonably priced for NY.
I think I'll pass on the lobotomy, but I will have another vodka tonic please.
-
Gin and tonic - easy on the tonic!
-
SPONGE JOKES!!!!! ((((((((quack)))))))
maybe 'd gt the sponge jokes faster if I was wearing my tinfoil hat??????
-
Re: homies and gangsters, I think if they said, "You and your friends", it wouldn't sound sinister enough. We must be Stepford wives since we like each other and agree a lot. LOL And talk about food and drink (we must be evil!).
-
Having a frosty Dewars with a splash on lotsa rocks. And a lobotomy on the side.
-
Lobotomies for all!
-
I'm such a lightweight .. I'm still nursing that ice cold diet pepsi!
Somebody down the road is weedwacking in this heat .. OMG .. he needs a lobotomy!
-
CS, ever watch "Some Like it Hot"? That's a gangsta movie.
-
yu are all so funny - I hope thenewme will be INSPIRED by the positive response of many of us to her thread, and HONORED that it showed exactly what she was trying to tell the Moderators NEEDS TO BE STOPPED - and then, not at her request, locked. I don't think anyone expressed it better than she did, tho Athena, Jancie made a lot of good points too....
Wow, what a tribute, thenewme. Rest, enjoy your lovely girls, the hopefully coolish weather near the mountain air, and ALWAYS KNOW there's a cooool drink waiting for you at the BCOB&G.
-
Thanks Sunflower but it appears as though my post is going to be deleted.
-
SAY WHAT?????????? deletions after a thread is closed - how does one spell sleazy?
-
I hope not Jancie .. I just reread it and found nothing whatsoever offensive about it. It's a shame you had to go to such great lengths to explain yourself.
